I REALLY like what they say on the panel about viable versus optimal builds. Since there is little customization as far as attributes and stuff goes, I'm glad that they are not completely shutting down the idea of having a crazy builds like a Tech Demon Hunter, melee Wizard, aggro Witch Doctor or caster Monk and actually support the idea of not going optimal...just expressing yourself with using whatever character you feel like you'd have fun with. The only problem I still have is the low amount of character slots per account :( Of course the fact that followers are now once again viable the whole game is kinda FREAKING AWESOME!!!

This is Diablo, not Battlefield or CoD. Physics really isn't a central part of the game. Especially considering you are a barbarian fighting zombies and monsters of all kinds. In that environment, everything you know about physics gets thrown out the window, and rightly so. If I wanted realism, I wouldn't be interested in Diablo at all.

This has nothing to do with realism. I have played Titan Quest, another ARPG like Diablo (probably one of the best Diablo clones out there BTW), full of mythical monsters, magic etc. Again not your typical realistic game. It had ragdoll physics and the proper sense of direction I described in my post. The more damage you dealt on the killing blow the more the monster's corpse reacted to the hit. And I can tell you landing a powerful attack and just swatting the monster off your way felt awesome. It gave your attacks a sense of real power and weight behind them, like they were real hits placed on very physically 'there' objects. No matter that you were dealing with a fantasy world, the power of your character just oozed all over the place when something like that happened. Which is what they are going for here. Unfortunately the way they implemented it makes it look kind of cartoony in that monsters just launch into the air in nonsensical and way-over-the-top fashion.

What would make you feel more powerful and badass? If you struck a monster with a swing from the right and it just inexplicably jumped 20 feet into the air? Or rather if it launched to the left (as it should), perhaps hitting a tree, some rocks or barrels on the way, or just rolling down a cliff as it carries the power of your blow with it? I can tell you from experience the latter feels great. And with the kinds of attacks that Diablo has (Cleave, Whirlwind, Leap Attack etc) it would look much better if there were monsters flying all over the place in various directions, rather than just launching straight up into the air when you kill one of them. I'm not urging the Diablo team to implement complete realism and tone everything down. I still want it to be over the top...but this is the bad kind of over the top.

What I don't like about this system is the disregard of direction. For a monster to fly this high up there would either have to be a large explosion underneath it or it would have to take a powerful uppercut strike. With Whirlwind I don't want monsters to go flying up, they should be swept to the side. The direction of the strike should determine the direction the corpse goes. I'm ok with pieces of monsters flying all over the place but it should at least make some sense. If you are slamming a hammer on the monsters head it really shouldn't fly up, if anything you should punch it three levels down the dungeon.

I'm not much of a picture editor/maker at all so I'll just give my 2 cents with a suggestion...make the O in Diablo the typical Diablo O...with a + in the middle of it as the hells themselves meant it to be written. :d3d:

Looking at the calculator...do you people realise how screwed we are? I tried to resist looking at the skills until I get my hands on the Beta but I failed...now I have about 13-15 builds already thought out...and we can only have maximum of 10 characters per account...dammit! I need more!

posted a message on Gravepalm + Tornado?
Hi there. I know it may be totally dumb question but I thought I'd ask anyway. If I have a physical damage bonus on armor, like e.g. the Gravepalm gloves which increase % damage against undead, will it enhance the physical damage of some of my spells (e.g. Molten Boulder or Tornado) or does it only enhance damage dealt by a weapon or a shield?

Alright just my two cents, but everyone needs to stop flipping out over the fact that this brand new game is not exactly like two games made 10-12 years ago. I'm glad they changed it up, if I want to play diablo2 I'll go load up D2!!
I don't want to play D2, if I wanted to I wouldn't be sitting here. I don't want them to make the exact same game like they did in 2001...however I think we can all agree on the fact that if a game that is 11 years old is at some aspects clearly better than your new game, then you are doing something wrong. If the D2 menu worked, don't fix it. In this case 'don't break it' would be more appropriate. As I said before, I'm convinced this is just a placeholder...but if it isn't (which we don't know for sure)then I think it's worth discussing, don't you?

It's probably in the direction "don't spend much time outside of the game, get in and play".

That's what I'm afraid of though. These 'incentives' of theirs somewhat anger me. 'You are supposed to be killing monsters not looking at the menu screens so we made the menu ugly'...'you are supposed to be fighting and completing quests not listening to lore/dialogue/gossip so we make dialogue continue on the run while you are killing stuff'...I won't even go to automatic skill/stat allocation so you don't have to spend time looking at those either... Hm, looks like I just went there anyway. Point is, I'd rather they dedicate sufficient time and effort to all of this instead of minimizing aspects of the game to make room for MOAR combat. Some people just like to take the game nice and slow, enjoy the art and atmosphere of it, soak in some lore and stuff and not just run around and loot. Though it is the core aspect of the game, it's not just that which makes Diablo great. Other ARPGS kill and loot just like Diablo does...but Diablo always was something more as well. I hope they don't streamline it too much.

Staring at the screenshots on page 1 and pretending that you can actually click and play the game helps ease the pain.
Starting at the screenshots on page 1 makes me press Esc frantically and trying to increase the graphics settings in the Options menu :D

Aaah, the good old D2 selection screen... I mean just look at it...detailed surroundings, detailed and stylized characters, badass poses (I would click on the necro until my mouse went dead)...the screen we saw leaked has simply nothing impressive on it whatsoever. Yes, the characters are actually more detailed on the D2 screen because they are sprited separately and not made with the ingame engine...nothing wrong with doing it that way to make it look good. I hope their motivation wasn't "you're supposed to be killing monsters and not looking at the menu, so we made the menu ugly so you don't spend time there". Seeing the screen that is on the official page...I'm still hopeful that was just a placeholder.

I'm very disappointed by the leaked stuff so far. Graphics settings seem very low because you can see every pixel and a lot of things seem quite unfinished...the selection screen has nothing on the D2 screen (which is an 11 years old game!!!!). At the last picture the barbarian isn't even holding the damn shield in his hand, it's just stuck to his arm... I really hope this is just really old footage and stuff because I am not impressed at all.

If there is anything I would change, I would just put some kind of light into the center of the spirit globe. The light would just pop out a few rays every now and then as the liquid swirls around. When the spirit depletes under one half, the light rays would disappear. As for the DH resource, I'd just make the red portion brighter to look more like flame and the blue portion darker to contrast a little to the WD's mana. And also the DH globe separation thingy in the middle should be more 3D, since now it completely ruins the 3D feel of the globe.
