There is NO reason to not use weapons in the casting animation, this is just lazy work done by blizzard.
In Rift casters use their weapons when they cast spells, even when the caster has a dagger and a tome in his off hand, the tome actually comes out and is held infront of the caster, the tome opens and the pages fly back and forth.

Blizzard, you only make AAA games, so why arent you implementing something that is already done by AA games?

I will tell you why, you have become complacent.

Anyone who goes meh, you're not helping the situation of blizzard becoming complacent. Demand more, if Blizzard is going to make a profit off you, demand the most you can for the product. Having lazy, unrealistic animations which was acceptable 5 years ago, doesnt fly anymore. Quit being fanboys, demand a product that is amazing, not haphazardly thrown together. Demand perfection, dont accept mediocrity.

It's the little intricate details that make the larger picture amazing people, if you dont understand that you're being a pleb.

While I don't share as strong of an opinion on this as you, I do have to agree with your general point to a lesser degree. I 100% agree on that weapons or off-hand items should be used in any and all casting animations. With the speed in which these animations happen, there is no way to make a smooth animation of the character putting away his or her weapon, casting, than bringing the weapon back out. I would much rather just have the animation take advantage of the items in hand.

All and all this won't break the game for me.. But I'd be lying if I said it doesn't bother me slightly every time I see it. I hope those who make it into the Beta voice their opinions of this on the official forums.

    Perfection is in the details.

Yeah it won't break the game for me either, I will find it annoying just like you will. If I had never seen a game use all the weapons in attack animations/spell animations then I would say "oh well it would be nice if"... but when a new company(trion), with not even close to the same cash as blizzard, or design team, or you know the same time duration in dev stage can do it and make it look good... why cant you?

I hope the beta team does voice their opinion as well, and to the alpha team? I shake my head if they never braught it up.
