Magic Find - Changes the drop chance of an item an enemy drops, from being Grey/White, to Blue/Yellow/Orange.
EXAMPLE
Drop Chance: 5% Magical, 95% Non-magical
Non-magical Quality: 45% damaged (Grey), 55% normal or superior (White) (This is the 100% spread that is packed within the 95% chance)
Magical Quality: 70% chance to be magical (Blue), 25% chance to rare (Yellow), 5% to be legendary (Orange) (This is the 100% spread that is packed within the 5% chance)
Magic Find increase the DROP CHANCE value of magical items.
Previous Chance: 5%
With 100% MF: 10%
With 200% MF: 15%
The QUALITY chance of the item doesn't change based on your MF, nor does the drop chance of a different ilevel of an item. Those are all static values. And of course, MF has no bearing at all on the stats of the item either. Those are statically rolled when it drops from the lovely, massive, RNG table of magical properties.
You have to add in the chance to not drop loot.
Because with no stacks of NV, belial inferno drops 2-5 pieces of loot (gray to orange quality).. at least for me when I farmed him. But with 5 stacks.. that number went up to 7-12 pieces of loot.
The biggest thing MF does is add more drops. And from those drops you see more blue and higher quality items.
This is assuming MF = NV where as more stacks of NV only raises your MF stat and that's it. If NV does something extra for you then I'm not aware of that.
NV gives extra drops it has nothing to do with MF -

Alyrea posted a message on Diablo II memories are not realityJay Wilson: Yeah, one of the lessons that we learned in development was people’s memories of Diablo II were way different than the reality of Diablo II. They remember all kinds of stuff that never actually happened in that game.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
You silly people! Tell Jay you're sorry. All those things you enjoyed about Diablo II, you made them all up. Jay knows what you're up to! Those memories you have of the countless hours and fun times you had playing Diablo II were all made up. Only Jay Wilson really knows what fun is and you should totally understand why Jay gets to tell you what is fun and how you should be playing the game. The way Diablo III turned out should make sense now.

Burzghash posted a message on There's a repair bill, then there's a repair billPosted in: Diablo III General DiscussionQuote from Kenji
I mean, seriously, wtf just happened here? I'm on my level 40 WD alt on Nightmare, not dying bear this in mind, repairing after a few quests, and I shit you not, my repairs for not dying in this new patch are MORE expensive than my repair bills for when I died pre-patch. 1k to repair without dying; it's not much, but I don't even want to think about repair bills in Inferno!
What were Blizz thinking? Yeah, kill graveyard zerging, but they are making farming redundant at the same time!
Gold was accumulating at a retarded pace before. While you're paying higher repair bills in nightmare while not dying than you used to be, you're still accumulating wealth, just more slowly. Which is exactly what they wanted to happen.
Working as intended. -

Yellr posted a message on Patch 1.0.3 - magic find buffOk fixing a stat and changing are 2 different things, the Legendary you're refering to is a Boj Angler, the way your post was worded made it seem like you thought they would be buffing or changing the stats on all legendaries in the future. I apologize.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

level 60 legendarys usually roll decent damage as a baseline
if legendarys always rolled higher than blues and rares, rares and blues would be seen as too weak, and complaints would be made the other way around.
