Season 20 Changes

This is still a solid build to push with in Season 20. It won't be the top performer, as that title will likely go to Death Nova, but Nova Nec is fishy as hell so if you're like me and don't want to burn keys and hours hunting for the perfect rift, Mages is definitely still good and gets a pretty nice buff from the Season 20 theme. My current ranking with this build is 25 Solo Necro in NA as of March 24th. This is with ~1400 paragon (for reference, at this time the top Necro clear has ~3000 paragon). Obviously this will fluctuate quite a bit as it's still very early in the season.

There are a few gear changes we're taking this season.

First, we're dropping CoE and wearing both Nailuj and Krysbin's. CoE is always good, but since we're able to use the cube slots freely this season, it (shockingly) ends up as the piece we are able to drop.

In the cube, we're keeping Reilena's of course, but instead of Hexing and Krysbin's, we're taking two additional weapons - Tragoul's Corroded Fang, and Messerschmidt's Reaver. Since we're cursing everything with Decrepify, Trag's gives us a huge 200% damage boost, and Messer's will give us cooldown every time we kill something, which is supremely important since our big DPS comes during Simulacrum/LotD uptime.

(Side note - if you roll a GG Trag's, you can use that in hand and cube Scythe of the Cycle. The reason SotC is preferred is that it has a slightly higher base attack speed.)

Overview

The seemingly most popular solo LoD Singularity build differs only slightly from the group version used in Rat Runs, but is far from optimal for solo pushing. Whereas the all-out glass cannon offense is fine when you have a support barb and support necro, it is far less effective when running high level solo GRs. This solo variant of the LoD Singularity Mage is significantly more reliable, adding in a huge boost in survivability and increased LotD/Simulacrum uptime. This is a slower build, ideal for pushing but not for speed farming.

Skills

Decrepify serves four purposes. First, it slows enemies so we can avoid getting swarmed and stay out of harm's way. Secondly, the Borrowed Time rune adds to our cooldown reduction so we can have more uptime on LotD and Simulacrum. Third, it enables our Dayntee's Binding belt, giving us another layer of defense. Last but certainly not least, it procs our Bane of the Trapped gem giving us a huge damage boost against the enemies who are cursed.

Important note on Decrepify: The cooldown reduction for cursed enemies is applied when you cast your cooldown skill, not throughout the cooldown period. In order to benefit, you need to curse groups of enemies before casting your cooldown skills. The cooldown time is reduced according to the number of enemies cursed when the cooldown skill was cast. You do not gain any CDR from cursing enemies while a skill is cooling down.

Otherwise, the skills are essentially the same as any other solo Singularity build. Bone Armor for defense. Devour for restoring Essence and Health, as well as producing health globes to fuel Reapers Wraps. LotD for crowd control and resource regeneration, Simulacrum for a massive DPS boost.

Numlock Devour and Bone Armor if you feel so inclined.

Gear

Most gear pieces are pretty standard for a Singularity build, but I'll touch on some of the less frequently used pieces that make this build work.

Dayntee's Binding. You are cursing everything, and Dayntee's gives up to 50% damage reduction when there's at least one cursed enemy. Survivability is key when pushing solo, and this extra damage mitigation is invaluable.

We have sacrificed Blood Rush in order to take Decrepify, so we're giving up Steuart's Greaves as well. Instead, we want to take Ice Climbers which makes us immune to freezes and immobilize effects. This is hugely important for avoiding enemies, as well as keeping our Hexing Pants of Mr. Yan bonus active. Illusory Boots are ok, but ideally you won't be running through enemies, as you'll be trying to hang back a bit and let your mages go out in front. Ice Climbers are the best option.

Many builds will suggest using Andariel's Visage. It's not a bad recommendation, but it's extremely difficult to get the correct roll. If you can manage to get an Andariel's with Physical Damage %, Attack Speed, Skeletal Mage Damage %, and a socket, then it may be worth using. However, it's much easier to roll a good Leoric's Crown with Crit Chance and Skeletal Mage Damage %. Plus, wearing the Crown gives us the ability to cube Hexing Pants for a huge DPS boost, without having to equip them and thereby sacrificing Swamp Land Waders.

Any Phylactery is fine, they are just a stat stick so the legendary affix doesn't matter. Remember, having +20 Essence on your weapon and phylactery are very important.

In Season 18 and before, Thorns has been the build with the highest GR potential. In Season 19, LoD Mage may be the best Solo Necro push build, and should be capable of even higher clears due to the Season 19 Pandemonium buff.

Season 18 Ranking Notes:

Peak: Rank 6 Solo Necro.

Final: Rank 30 Solo Necro; GR 122 in 14:12.

Highest non-Thorns Necro clear in Season 18.
