Skills
- Judgement can be replaced with Shield Glare, personal preference, they both serve defensive and offensive purposes, but Judgement is better for DPS.
- Long Arm of the Law can be replaced with Holy Cause for a slight DPS loss but the healing can be very helpful for survivability.
Stats
- Crit, Area DMG and Strength are the best stats, focus on those!
- CDR isn't that great for the damage in this build, but it's nice to have for defensive cooldowns and Steed Charge
Items
Shoulders
Pauldrons of the Skeleton King or Death Watch Mantle are the best, but any other Ancient shoulders with better rolls are better (hence the Invokers as adequate)
Amulet
Hellfire is awesome, allows you to get Indestructible as 5th passive
Hands
Stone Gauntlets are nice for the Immobilize, St Archew's for the defensive bubble but other Ancient Gloves with good rolls are fine too
Waist
The Witching Hour is the only belt with offensive stats on it, and it's a pretty big upgrade.
You want the String of Ears affix, but cubing it and using The Witching Hour is a bigger upgrade to DPS than anything else you could cube!
Alternatively you can use String of Ears if you have one but not a Witching Hour and cube Leoric's Crown for some more CDR.
Legs
Pox Faulds are nice, but not very important, other Ancient Legs with good rolls are fine too (hence the Rolands as adequate)
Feet
Illusory Boots or Ice Climbers provide a bit of extra survivability, but again other Ancient Boots with good rolls are fine too (hence the Akkhans as adequate)
Weapon
Akkhan's Leniency is better single DPS than Gyrfalcon's Foote with near perfect gear, but Gyrfalcon's Foote is better for a LONG time and will always remain better for > 5 mobs.
Cube
- Weapon choice is obvious, if you have a really good Ancient Leniency and no good [Ancient] Gyrfalcon's Foote then you can switch them.
- We need more survivablity so String of Ears is best, Leoric's is used by other Blessed Shield builds, but the CDR isn't that good and being able to use The Witching Hour as belt is a real nice DPS increase
- Convention of Elements is too good to be true, for any build it seems ...
Legendary Gems
- Estoteric Alteration provides more much needed survivability
- Bane of the Stricken helps a lot with the Rift Guardian
- Pain Enhancer is equally good as Bane of the Trapped or Mirinea, pick w/e you like. Mirinea might be best because it doesn't require being close, but needs some testing ...

- Movement Speed > Strength is basic stuff (and you're slow as hell so you need is badly
- CDR is least important for DPS, get the other Offence first
Build Guide
It's not as strong for pushing GRifts as LoN Bomb and probably even falls short of Invoker (though with near perfect gear it might overtake Invoker), but it's fun and does fairly well.
This build works fairly well on all levels of play, you should probably have at least 9 out of your 13 pieces of gear Ancient though and the pieces marked as required.
Things to work on the most:
- getting more Ancient items (note; Legs, Gloves, Shoulders and Boots are fine with any Ancient with good rolls).
- getting Ancient Hellfire Amulet and Ancient LoN rings with good rolls (because it contains both Crit Chance and Crit Damage and that's very important for your damage ouput) is probably the biggest noticable improvement.
Playstyle
This build turns your Crusader into a shield wearing Demon Hunter, throwing shields around like a machine gun and it feels GOOOOOD!
Your greatest weakness is survivability, so you'll have to be careful (like a real ranged class xD).
Careful use of Iron Skin and Akarat's on moments when you want to be able to stand still and push out as much damage as possible.
CoE Holy is really worth popping one of those 2 so you don't have to run around to avoid damage during your +200% damage time!
This build is really good at clearing out big packs of white mobs, so Steed Charge around and if you run into a nice group of mobs, wipe it out!
Without Steed Charge you're rather slow, so if you run into a small group of white mobs with Steed Charge on cooldown, just kill it instead of slowly walking to bigger packs.

- Also has a set to test Holy Cause, Leniency and 2 fire based (glass canon) builds and last a set with all items augmented with +450 STR
- Uses Bane of the Trapped instead of Bane of the Stricken because the d3planner uses 10min fights to test in which Stricken scales to the moon!
Alternative (Group and Solo) Build: Fire Based Blessed Shield Build
Using the Combust Rune turns Blessed Shield into fire damage and it's AoE potential is equal or better in tight spaces (which GRifts usually are).
Because you can get a Cindercoat with +Fire% it will give you ~13% more elemental damage but it will mean you have to use Aquila in Cube and no String of Ears which means you're more squishy, for groups this is not a problem at all, for soloing it's a toss up.
and you can get a Magefist which will be easier to get good rolls on because you are guarenteed to have a +Fire% roll and can reroll something else.
Thank you for posting this. I was trying out legendary gem combinations and pretty much ended up with the same 5. Good to know I was in the right direction.
The helm choice of Andariel's Visage is really a good one with 2 required stats of +Holy% and +IAS%.
Would like to add that "Cord of the Sherma" provides rather decent CC and survivability with any form of shield glare, i.e. approach mobs with shield glare and spam attack for the circle of blindness.

Would like to know more about the choice of "Hold You Ground" passive please. Can't seem to figure out any synergy between blocking and any other part of the build, other than of course providing that extra defence. Thanks.
Blessed shield deals 250% of your block chance. Thats why the hold your ground passive is used
