True, the buffs they give are beneficial, I just don't like having a mob like that follow me around. I want to go it alone without having a follower. It's a personal preference, nothing more.
I totally agree. If it's your choice to not use them then I'm not someone to try to 'tell' you what to do. Personally I like the lure of the whole 1 hero against the world of chaos and hell, nothing but you and your sword/spell/bow/fist.
However, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth and think the follower will be a great benefit to those who chose to take them.
Since this is new content in D3 than in previous Diablo's, what are your thoughts on Followers? Are you going to use them? Are they going to be effective and useful? Personally I'll be rolling a Monk and I'd love to have a support Enchantress in the back casting on packs, buffing me, and dealing some damage as I run through the Acts. But this leads me to some questions, how will Followers work in parties? Will they count as a party member in the group of 4 or will they be excluded? And if your playing HC with a Follower and they die, are they gone for good as well? Also with Followers having there own skills and the equipment you can give to them (plus own unique equipment) I believe they will be very effective, especially if you plan on solo playing. Even though I feel like Followers have been getting a bad rep lately, I'm trying to get the opinions of everyone else, what do you guys think?
The Templar, in the beta, is basically useless... With an upgraded weapon, his dps number is listed at ~2, so he regularly hits mobs for up to about 4 damage, while I'm throwing out AOE doing 5 times that (per mob)... In a previous patch, the un'followed Templar was hitting for about 20, and then once he was done with the 'boss' Templar, he started hitting for 10-20% of that... Previous to that beta, I didn't notice him being useless...
Not sure what will happen at launch, and of course, higher level will help bring that number up a bit (but not as much as some may argue - Weapon is already the main dps contributor).
I think followers are gay and i'm glad they will not be available for multiplayer games.
good job bringing a logical argument or opinion to the table..
kudos.
In other news, I'm glad to see followers are still being made an integral part of the game at least for single player mode. I'm a bit mixed in terms of why they chose to leave them out in a group setting as in d2 you could have a max game n everyone has their merc at least using runewords for auras and at least minimal damage output.
either way I'm glad to see they've making them useful but not a necessity.
I disagree, but I don't have a badly drawn comic to make my point...
Some people love mercs, others hate them... I won't say they're gay, like someone above, because I haven't noticed the Templar hitting on my male characters while playing, but they can get in the way...
One argument is simply that I don't want your mercs in my game... The counter is that, you don't have to play with people that have mercs, and honestly, that seems valid to me (as I rarely play with strangers anyways).
Another argument is that having multiple players with the same merc breaks immerson, doesn't make sense, etc... The counter to that is, the game has already taken this into account, in an amusing way (something about evil fearing one templar, and two templars blah blah).
Followers are fine. I prefer playing with friends, but my imaginary gf likes to play solo and runs with the templar all the time. All in all I like the idea and like the fact that they disappear in multiplayer.

Kudos
The thread's title is "your thoughts on followers". I just expressed my thoughts on them, therefore, I did bring an opinion on the table. Do I need to back it up with arguments ? If you don't like apples or tomatos, do I ask you why ? No, because you simly don't like apples and tomatos and there's no need to go beyond that. It's not because you like followers that everyone has to like them too, and you shouldn't need to get on the offense everytime someone disagrees with you.
So yeah like you said, Kudos for me and none for you 'cause you're an ass.
