So I'm sure many of the Diablo 2 hardcore players had an unfortunate experience with Gloams at some stage of the game. So I pose the question, do you think we will see the return of similar mobs in Diablo 3? For the uninitiated, Gloam was a mob in diablo 2 that could one shot you from off the screen with lightning, before you could see it and ended the life of all to many hardcore characters.
Personally, I hope not. In my experience it wasn't a matter of skill but rather luck in avoiding death because of these mobs.
I think the technology has progressed enough that if they do return, they will make more sense from a gameplay perspective.
I think the Devs realize that it wasn't really a matter of skill killing these mobs, but more random. Also, W/O Maphack players would have no clue where they were(think walking into the throne). Getting gibbed especially in hardcore, by mobs you can't see, isn't really that fulfilling of a way to die.
I would honestly rather have gloams over exploding dolls. I think those kind of mobs aren't very fun though. I want something challenging, not a gamble on whether or not I get lucky.
TO HELL WITH THE GLOAMS!!! BRING BACK THE HIDDEN!!!!!! *Imagines walkinhg in a coridor and 43574903574 guys surround me* hehehe the good ol days

I doubt mobs/mechanics like that will make it into Diablo 3 hardcore, I'm sure blizzard have learned from their mistakes and hopefully wont have cheap ways of killing us unless its by a combination of random powers on a rare mob which is part of the fun, but the exploding dolls and some auras that 1 shooted melee for example were quite bad designs from their side which should have been changed for hardcore.
Well in the monk gameplay vids there are mobs that disapper and reappear so it looks like there will at least be a some mobs with a surprise element to them.

My issue was with the one shot kill lightning from off the screen, not the disappearing and reappearing. To be honest, after some consideration I have come to the conclusion that any non-boss mobs that can one shot a character with a decent amount of health is stupid and unfun.

Blizzard will avoid just that, this time around. All of their designers talk about "unfun" gameplay aspects and how they should be avoided almost at all costs.
