They should stop making movies and say that they are true when they are not. examples.... Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I can't speak for the other movies but the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on Ed Gein and the Wisconsin Massacre's that occurred from 1954 to 1957. The real story while different is no less whacked out, that guy was off his ef'ing rocker.

i don't know if the original TCM advertised it but i know the the newer version with jessica biel advertised it as true events, which were never true. Yes they based it off of ed gein, but ed gein did it alone (not with a family like the movie). Psycho and Silence of the Lambs were also based on ed gein. the character "Buffalo Bill" from Silence of the Lambs is based on ed gein. Mainly for the human skin suit. Norman Bates is also based on Gein for the mental issue dealing with his mother. there is a mover called Ed Gein (my dad had it on VHS) which tells the story of him. not quite sure how accurate it is but its closer then all three mentioned movies put together are.

My life is like a dragon, first praised, then hated, now lost.
shadowdragon85 no question all those movies were very loosely based on Gein, I think a lot of movies have used his crime scene photo's as inspiration for special effects and gore. Motel Hell was another based on his carnage and even the movie SAW seems to have borrowed crime scene themes from his acts. He treated humans like slaughtered livestock and then did all kinds macabre things to their body parts and bones. That guy was seriously missing a brick.
Gamer?? really?? I liked the movie... I'm not saying is one of the best movies but it was ok+
Well, I don't like movies that don't seem to be sure what they're about. And Gamer felt that way. Especially with that whole rift between Slayers/Society, as well as using the word Gamer as their title. Have you seen eXistenZ?

yeah I have!! one of the best movies I've seen (it has a lot of flaws but I loved it anyway)
about gamers it's true, it doesn't seem to be sure what's about, I've seen it recently and I'm making a lot of research about ICTs and their impact and stuff, so I connected with those topics, that's why I liked the story... but objectively, the plot is quite messy...
That's what I mean really. They could have done a lot with it, and I think it would be better if the centered on Society. That was a really interesting (and nasty) concept they could have expanded on. While the Slayers thing was covered by tons of other movies already and split the movie pretty much in half. The moral and other issues of Society and Slayers are pretty different. The people who would lean towards the two are quite different. Then they got into the problem of controlling people via technology which is like a whole other issue. Too many different concepts, not mixed well, not examined deeply.
And Michael C. Hall's character just plain made no sense.
The movie felt like it grabbed at rising concepts people tend to discuss today (like you said, doing research on ICT's, I'm kind of doing the same), but didn't know what to do with them besides shock value. I would tend to compare it to movies like Videodrome, Matrix, eXistenZ, 13th Floor, which were all better IMO and cover a lot of what Gamer was trying to cover, many years prior. The only thing I got out of it is "we may end up here, and this is bad", which isn't much.

Solid argument is solid
I agree, they could make a whole trilogy about the topics they touch, though I like the way they represented the internet community, all the loving and trolling for the kid, the lack of moral values, how they pictured two different archetypes of gamers (the rich guy and the disgusting immoral fat guy) the way people prejudice about people using the internet for a living... I think that the mind controlling thing is there just for the sci fi justification for other stuff they tried to put in there...
but they didn't got deep enough, they could have made a far better movie, that's true
I agree district 9 was horrible. If I want to watch a documentory I'll turn on national geographic or the history chanel or the biography channel

District 9 was probably one of the best movies of that year. You people are just sad. You may dislike 'documentaries" (as if D9 was one anyway), but that doesn't make it horrible.
Back on topic, I remembered 2 other horrible movies-
Shooter- zomg, this was so stupid.
Dude, what the hell? I love that movie
If you're gonna say some movies are horrible atleast tell your opinion _why_.
Mark Wahlberg kicks ass, the plot is allright and they even have Danny Glover..
Jesus man!
anyway.. imo district9 shouldn't have had that feeling as if it was a documentary... the movie was horrible.
I'll quote a movie site that sums up my impression of this absolute failure that reeked of stupidity.
"With an implausible story and numerous plot holes, Shooter fails to distinguish itself from other mindless action-thrillers"
Edit- I usually do not harbour such dislike for poor movies, but when people(aka friends) insist it's 'damn good' and make me waste my time on it, it pisses me off...
Well I thought the Bourne series were a nice watch in the action/thriller genre.
I have nothing against your own tastes. Indeed if you have been able to appreciate it, it's all good- at least you enjoyed it and didn't waste your time.
It's just that my own brain tells me that a movie taking itself seriously and revolving around a conspiracy cannot afford to have such a loose plot.
Oh and to satisfy my testosterone-induced movie needs, I'll usually grab a movie like Ong Bak and watch Tony Jaa bash the guys with the knives, the guys with the sticks, the guys with the guns, the guys with the elephant husks, the guys on the motorcycles, the guys in the cars, the guys on the street and any guys who move in a suspicious manner(like walking or glancing at him) in his presence.
I find it strangely satisfying. No story. Just good old bashing.
I would have liked nothing better than to re-watch the movie to break it down for you but I fear my brain will end up giving me a tumor to avenge itself of the torment it will have to go through when I see that movie again.
Let us simply go with our different tastes.

indeed... that was a crappy senseless movie... at least I didn't get it :/
It didn't make me like the movie more one bit...

A little background on the nut job

You can view some of the crime scene photo's here (about half way down, just do a page search for Ed Gein)
