I'm a huge fan of the Norse theme, but the fact that there are no crossbows or spears in the game is just bad. Hell, even some mods managed to implement spears in Oblivion even though they were incredibly buggy.
.... So?
2 weapon types, oh god no, the game has been rendered unplayable.
Still has a pretty tits ass landscape, what APPEARS to be some nice changes to the UI, and while the whole 3 stat system is kinda odd, it does make sense given that everything in Obliv/Morrowind/others basically boiled down to "stealthy, beaty, magic-y".

They may not be so diverse, but they're still beautiful. Also we don't know a lot about the game yet, I doubt we'll be seeing deserts but we still have a chance at some plains/non-snow woods/etc. Things that would make sense in the game, depending how large it is.
I understand how you feel about crossbows and spears, it'd sort of be like leaving daggers out of a game. Those aren't the only weapons left out though, and to be honest most games leave a lot of weapons out, what about katars, what about flails? I still don't see any confirmation there WON'T be crossbows or spears.
Has there been confirmation of no polearm/spears or crossbows yet? Either way its not that big of a deal to me.
I think they've confirmed their absence. If they do end up putting them in the game, then it will be further down the road once the core of the game has been solidified and they feel there could be more added.
Edit: You're not going to find a lot of diverse climate zones in the mountainous north. We're basically in a huge Bruma.
I do like the forest landscapes a lot.

I hate the way you cling to ignorance and pass it off as innocence
Oblivion pretty much survived off of mods if you ask me. I had a lot more fun with modded Oblivion than vanilla. Still need to check out that Nehrim mod.
@Hpnot1Q
What does the game offer really? People keep saying it offers "so insanely much" but the game is not even out yet.
Stop the fanboyism please.
The game still offers less than Daggerfall ever did. I don't know how that's greedy.

Well yeah, but recreating daggerfall with a modern engine would be fucking insane.
Not saying it couldn't be done since I know fuck all about developing computer games, but I can definitely imagine it would take a very long time if the developers wanted the landscape to actually be interesting, and not just vast expanses of bullshit.
So far Skyrim looks pretty solid, dunno if I like the whole dragon shouts thing, but meh, it might grow on me once I fuck around with it for a while. Definitely a fan of the new dual wield shit they've got going on though. At the very least, it'll be a fun game to pass the time with until D3 hits shelves, even if you can't skewer shit with spears and crossbow bolts.

You could argue about problems with landscape loading and modeler work, but you can't really argue about weapons or about things such as wall climbing, those are not related to graphics issues at all. Most of these have been implemented in many games since Daggerfall. Risen has spear/staff combat, for instance.
I mean, there are some games where they don't implement swimming. I really don't get some developers sometimes, although perhaps publishers are to blame.
Equinox, you realy realy realy seriously think that they r going to downgrade Skyrim in most aspects in comparison to Oblivion?
I've seen it happen with sequels countless times. Oblivion was also a downgrade from Morrowind in every way except combat and raw size (Morrowind had more hand crafted detail). It's not so much that I expect it or what not, but it's not out of the question.

Truth.
Downgrades happen all the fucking time, not every game will be bigger than its predecessor.
Dragon Age 2 was smaller than the first, for example. Had fewer dungeons, combat was about the same, and the dialogue was carebear mode. SO, there's an example of a downgrade right there.
What about SC2 vs SC?
1 campaign where SC had 3. Size was downgraded.
OH LAWD THAT'S TWO EXAMPLES.

Enter dungeon, kill, get loot, maybe a small sidequest orso, what else would one want from a dungeon ? Yes rocks are greyish of nature, and there are fungus'es in it aswel, hidden treasures etc you know ? How a dungeon in a fantasy game is supsoe to be like, i honoustly cannot think of something that was missing within it, and not one dungeon looked the same to the previous one, scale/road wise that is.
Play Gothic pre-3 or Risen. The difference is in the implementation rather than anything specific. Oblivion dungeons were generated, they said so themselves, that's why they all look the same being within the set (Aelid Ruins, Forts, Caves, Mines, Sewers, Oblivion Gates, what else was there).
There's a reason Diablo had some places generated and some customized, and some customized parts mixed into the generator. Oblivion did this too but they did it badly.
I just know iv spent hundreds, and i do meen hundreds of hours in oblivion, most long played game in my life.
Nothing wrong with that.
I do find that I can play some games longer but my enjoyment from them is smaller than that from games that are shorter (Diablo II vs Nox, for instance). I prefer to find a good mix of the two but it's rather rare.
Its just such a shame that Godly games like TES series - Diablo series - Battlefield series and so on get most critisism, whiles al the critisism should go to crap companys that cant make games, wip THEM so they start making some nice games.
You seem to have an issue with the idea that opinions differ. I like quite a few smaller, less expensive games because they offer things that Oblivion doesn't (like spears). You may consider those games bad because they're not big enough for you or polished or something but I judge games differently.
I mean, there are some games where they don't implement swimming.
Yeah in red dead redemption (fine game) you actually die for stepping in the water...
The only thing I hated about oblivion was the main quest. And the limits on spell creation. Oh and the disappointing "living world" which still resulted in npc's standing around in the street idly. I'm looking forward to the next one though, should be fun
The stealth element was great, they actually had stealth kills, you jammed your daggers in your opponents throat, rather then just a x6 damage multiplyer.

Oblivion was all grass/woods-grass/wood-grass/wood-oooh Oblivion gate-grass/woods.
Skyrim is snow-snow-snow-snow.
Yeah that's fun.

You act like nearly every game isn't lacking weapon types though.
Do we even know crossbows exist in the Elder Scrolls world?
What does the game offer really? People keep saying it offers "so insanely much" but the game is not even out yet.

Skyrim has stealth kills too.
It's even labeled stealth kill.
I couldn't care less and I've grown up with games that had no reflection of damage at all and it never bothered me.
