I'm no therapist, but I do recognize the diffirence between a down day and clinical depression. If anything i'd think a therapist would be in a better position (pride perhaps being an obstacle) than most to seek help.
It's my understanding that therapists have a higher than average rate of depression.
Edit: Sorry if that sounds offensive or pedantic. That was not my intent.

So I have this guy, NotInMyName2050, subscribed on my Youtube account. I usually like his videos, but I usually just continue on with whatever I am doing. However, this video really hits home in my opinion. If there are Atheists like myself on this board, and you feel alone, I think you should check this guy out.
Any atheist who feels alone should come by the nearest college campus. Smart people gravitate away from fairy tales.
Obvious exceptions made for religiously funded and motivated institutions. And I also totally agree with his supposition behind the need for atheist groups and organizations. There are tremendous amounts of lobbyist out there for mainstream religions spouting nonsense. There should be a collective voice against such social legislation as it's totally uncalled for(one of the biggest points I agree with libertarians on).
Hmm I don't see anything that profound about the video personally. Honestly anymore on a day to day basis I'm not atheist but I can't say I think about God or pray or anything. I just keep living and doing what I think is right.
Do Atheists really feel THAT scrutinized? I thought it was a pretty common and accepted belief nowadays. I also don't see the need to speak out for Atheism. Isn't it something that speaks for itself? If you believe there is no God, I'd think it would be freeing to just wash your hands of religion, not turn around and focus on it more than most religious people.
I dunno, doesn't really effect me either way.
I guess I believe more in intelligent design now that I think of it than more specific things.
Atheists are, quite literally, the most loathed minority in America (can't comment on the rest of the world). Ahead of all racial minorities, gays, political affiliates, etc.
Even after that, people would still vote for a Muslim before an Atheist.
(Not saying anything against Islam, just making a point.)
They have taken multiple polls, and the least trusted and least liked group are Atheists. Hence why I am always fighting.
Edit: And the reason why the video really spoke to me personally I guess is because for the longest time I would hold my hands and pretend to pray, go to church, thank "jesus", and all that jazz, just to keep the status quo. I also know there are many like me that still do that. And there are many that, if they were open about it, would have their lives threatened.
Have their life threatened for being atheist? Where the hell do you guys live?
I live in probably one of the most christian closed minded parts of the country in a pretty small town and that doesn't even happen here. Southeast Missouri. If you stood up and yelled you were an atheist in Walmart most people wouldn't say anything just look at you, a few might tell you to shut up and stop yelling, and a handful of old baptist people may shake their head at you or give you a dirty look, but I don't think it would ever endanger your life, or even interrupt your daily living.

It's probably because they do shit like "Take that cross down from the 911 site!! It's offensive to atheists."
As Jon Stewart put it "Why do they care?"

I was going to post a large paragraph, but I think this video sums it up very well.
By the way, the cross at the 9/11 memorial is offensive to anybody who isn't Christian. That includes Buddhists and Jews. Just wanted to point that out.

Really? Because if I saw a buddha statue I wouldn't be offended. I think people are too easily offended when it comes to religion or the lack there of.
I thought the point of Atheism was that they shouldn't care. If they don't believe in Christianity it may as well just be a Santa statue there since they're both fictional?
I think that video is an example of things that are prejudice against atheists rather than things atheists are offended by. I'm outraged by the things in that video.
Did Meph really get banned cuz of a thing he said on the pic thread?
No he got a warning for that, he got banned for having 13 warnings, twice as many as anyone on the forum, it should of autobanned him at 10 but it was broken at the time so we let him slide by 2 more times before we just had to draw the line somewhere. Anyways PM me if you wanna discuss it more.
I'm going with Daemaro here. I know there are people out there who don't like atheists, and I cannot say that I am one myself but I hold no affiliations.
The kids who want to look cool, and tell everyone their an atheist to troll? Yeah, they make atheists look real bad. Christian, Bhuddist, atheist, whatever; just do your thing. Choosing battles is smart, and arguing with the older generation running the world is not going to win you anything. I just don't see trying to lobby against religious symbols while publicly saying you have no creed yourself is going to appeal to those codgers. Give it a few decades and the more 'free-thinking' young adults of today may start making some change.
Is there not a mosque going up near ground zero? People bitch about that just fine, and the ones who see no real problem with it are those who take it as it is. Instead of complaints, add to it perhaps? The nation seemed to bond fine over some buildings going down, just keep the love flowing.
If those crazy life-threatening, god-fearing, hate-mongering Christian folk wanna complain, well you have your case for discrimination.

Those. That's what keeps Atheism from being more accepted if anything. Teens and tweens who claim to be Atheist just to bash religions because its cool to hate religions nowadays. Atheism isn't about hating other religions as far as I know? Just disbelief in a God or Gods.
I think people get Atheism and Antitheism confused.
The major religion structures like the Vatican church for an example, have been fighting an ongoing war for millenia against the "other" supposedly religious ways of expression other people might have chose.
They tell us that everything before Judaism was primitive idol worshiping and many gods and goddesses for everything and that this is bad. So much disinformation... Just so they can turn us into these people who actually want to be grabbed by the balls.

The good thing about religions in my opinion is that they bring you this form of outline to work inside it. Its like when you want to workout everyday but you dont go to a gym, you usually forget to workout but if you go to a gym, you cant forget to workout. So, the working out in the religions' case would be the various mind states a person is able to reach while meditating. The prayer and the ceremonies are there to hold you in a place where a positive and enlightening mind state is easy or easier to reach, while always keeping the routine.

I'm way too chill to bother with that level of militant atheism. There are a few atheist groups that go overboard, but if suing someone is going nuts for an atheist you realize just how easy-going we are. Christians that bent out of shape tend to murder people, start wars, rape young children, burn books, etc.

This is the point when I personally start questioning if it was really done in the name of a god, or rather just excusing it with religion. There is no doubt people will use it as a crutch, or a bandage. Not excusing anyone of it, but a lot of terrible things have happened in the name of a deity, and just as much has happened and had a deity hastily added to it to justify it to themselves or like minded people. Like the actions of military/national leaders, or certain killers ('course the latter are the nutty ones).
