I think Diablo still has a very large fan base. I know some of my friends are disappointed with the direction it is going (since they are die hard D2 fans) but I am very excited about the game and know they will play it with me anyway. I've been playing D2 again and just can't wait for a modern version of my favorite game from back in the day. The original Diablo changed my life and the way I viewed multiplayer gaming. I hope that D3 has a chance to show a whole new generation of players what it is like to dungeon stomp with your best friends.
Did you honestly need to post just to let people know that you're too lazy to read a couple of paragraphs?
Waiting for Diablo 3 in particular is a good thing. Adding a lot of content(unique items, loot and the like.) can take awhile, and the longer the game is in development, the more content you get out of the box.
Titan Quest was in development for 6 years. I have played through it on each difficulty about 5 times(15 complete playthroughs) and I was still finding epic and legendary weapons I didn't find before.
If just a week goes by after Diablo 3 releases and there's a database listing all the items in Diablo 3, then that would just be a disappointment.
I don't think they're angry that D3 has been in development for too long, I think they're upset because they announced way too early. If they want to spend 10 years making a game, im sure that's fine, just don't get people psyched about it 5 years before it actually comes out, because by that time, all the excitement will have died down and a lot of people will have forgotten about it.
I'll probably buy Diablo III eventually, but I dunno how many people still remember the old games. From what I've seen, not that many.
Although people have forgotten the old game (some people) a lot of people who play wow will hear of it also so that will bring like another million people into D3.
A large majority of the - forgive the expression - hardcore gamers I know have had experience and very fond memories of Diablo 2. Interestingly enough, Diablo 3 is one of those anticipated titles across the board (which is nice, as there will be a sizeable amount of friends to play with at release).
It really seems to appeal to people who invest large amounts of their time in all kinds of various genres - from MMO to FPS to Japanese Import, etc.
Record breaking? For PC/Mac sales records, yes. For universal sales records, no.

I'm sure that could make the record books.
In all seriousness though, I have no doubt in my mind that D3 will blow away competition, and break a record.
oy, tell me about it... truthfully, my name is DarkMagicc, with 2 c's is because when I made my D2 account, "DarkMagic" was taken..haha
One thing that will probably happen is that I will hope for this game so much, and by the time I actually sit down and play it, I'll be over it..haha
