Quite upset by this ... was looking forward to having this in hand by Xmas.
I mean seriously .. Blizzard is really pushing the limit as to what the hardcore fans are going to be willing to put up with. No doubt they changed their minds and want the book to ship closer to release to tie in with the buzz and momentum.
In the end, they should be aware there is a chance it will come back and bite them.
It's not delayed. Amazon just ran out of copies already. I confirmed via email with customer support that my two copies that I pre-ordered are still being shipped to me next week (Dec. 13).
The thing is, thats not how amazon works, if they run out, they change estimated ariavle date, NOT the publication date.
We've been discussing this for a bit, one theory is its just how amazon works with items, if they don't have an item x days before they are told, they push back the date. ( as it most likely was wrong thing)
If a publication date was officially pushed, all amazon sites would share the date.

Good I found this forum thread in time. Nowhere in the Chris Metzen interview at Gameplanet he says the Book of Cain has been delayed until January. Thus, this is mere rumor based on what Amazon listed.
About a month ago, there was another rumor about a delay, and I quickly contacted Insight Editions to debunk that. As then, I contacted today Sunday, Dec 11 the Insight Editions Publicity Manager.
She responded on a Sunday within half-hour.
The Amazon release date is inaccurate. Diablo III: Book of Cain will ship on December 13th. Amazon will fix this internally.
UPDATED Dec 14th: The original rumor (January 10th) was debunked by Insight Editions publicity manager on Sunday, Dec 11th after I contacted her.
As of that Sunday, all was on track for release on December 13th. Out of the blue, and unrelated to the original rumor, there was a delay in shipment. Insight Edition reports via twitter the book will be sent out on Dec 16, or before Dec 19th tops.
I was going to close it but maybe it's a good idea to leave it open for others to see your post.

But I was looking at the publishing article they did 9 days ago, I figured it would be odd for them to release that, then 9 days later push it back, so good to have confirmation.

Thanks, Umpa. I no longer work at Diablofans, but have fond memories of this community and moderators.
I don't like to go by rumors, or see people react negatively against Blizzard or the licensed publishers based on inaccurate info. I have a few contacts, and they are very down-to-earth folks.
I can't believe Carlie takes time to answer on a weekend, to address fan concerns. She's awesome.
I also thought it was odd that no where it says the book was delayed... So I didn't believe it. Well, I usually don't believe things unless I hear it right from Blizzard.
Anyway, I just ordered the book today from Amazon.ca and it says December 13 as the date it will be shipped.
If i were to read this book BEFORE D3 came out, would if ruin any story or lore in D3.
I havnt read one spoiler about Diablo 3 and would like to keep it that way. I also have a little birdie telling me that I am getting the Book of Cain for xmas.
My question was going to be "How does a book get delayed?" It was clearly already finished as people have reviews etc up of it, so it was clearly already written!

Gonna try to answer this without being spoilery! From what I've read so far (about the first half of it, cause I've been busy), there are no direct spoilers, but there's some amount of information that strongly leads me to believe that certain things will happen. I will be surprised if they do not. However, these things tend to be overarching in scope, and details certainly have not been spoiled.
So it's not being held back because it's not ready yet, because the book is ready, and the retailers already have it, most (the ones who don't break the rules) are just waiting for the offical release date to send them out.
That last part isn't really correct, cause my copy was mailed to me straight from Insight Editions. No retailer middleman to spoil any plans.
Why is it so hard to get a proper release date? I've had the thing ordered for a month and I have no idea when I'll actually get it. I guess it will be a nice surprise when it hits my doormat.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.
I had already seen the Amazon January 10 page. This is why I directly contacted the Insight Editions Publicity Manager on Sunday, Dec 11. She said Book of Cain is shipping Dec 13. Amazon is mistakenly displaying now Jan 10, and they will fix that eventually. She contacted Amazon to fix this.
The Book of Cain is still scheduled for a December 13 release date and has not been delayed. We have no control over when retailers will actually get the books into your hands though. We'll have some showing up on the Blizzard store shortly after that date (approximately Dec 16) and many other retailers also will have the book as well for purchase.
