Today I was told that legendries are global. I wanted to know if this was true.
For instance, we 4 people did a rift and one person just stood at the entrance of the rift while the other 3 went and cleared it, would it show if a legendary dropped for that one person no matter how far they went?
Also say those 3 also went to the next level of the rift while the one person was still standing there, and he finally went into the next level, if a legendary would had dropped would he still see it?
I know that rares worked like this but wasn't sure about legendries
Only drops from chests are global (so called "world drops"). Drops from monsters are not global - if you are more than 1.5 screens away, you won't get any loot.
What we do is after a round of split farming just check all the waypoints to see if there's a star. Whoever does the "dungeon" bounty (e.g., Scavenger's Den or Moonclan Cave) should stay once it's completed and ask if people want to teleport to him/her. An alternative would be to leave via town portal and only use waypoints/"teleport to other players" to move around, go back to the cave once everyone is finished, and let everyone check. Especially since resplendent chests got buffed (and caves always have one on level 2) it is worthwhile to check those. I personally have found two legendaries from split bounties in areas I didn't touch (a chest in Festering Woods and Halls of Agony 4; Scoundrel immortal legendary and Blackthorne's belt). Since then, I always check. Would hate to miss a Wand of Woh somewhere ;-)
It's one of the reasons, however, why I dislike split farming and will stop it as soon as I have my ring. You will eventually miss a legendary at some point because of this, because you can't always check everything.
Just to add something that just came to my mind: while chest drops (actually all gizmo drops, such as dead bodies, barrels, and so on) are definitely "world drops", sometimes even monsters can somehow drop loot for you although you're not there. I have no idea why, and this is unusual. Usually you don't get anything when you're not there: I have actually missed a rift guardian's loot completely because I was 2 screens away when he spawned and was killed instantly thanks to a Conduit Pylon.
However, today I was standing in town and received XP from kills in the rift, which leads me to belief that there is the possibility that in some rare edge cases you might even get loot from monsters. I have never seen this though, but just wanted to add that this might occur. So even if there's a rift level without any chest (does this even exist - probably not) it's still worthwhile to check.

Please let me know
Thank you
