I recently joined the Air Force and will be leaving for basic at an indeterminate time in the future. I'm trying to figure out where I'd like to be stationed because during basic I'll fill out my base preferences stateside and overseas (8 each).
So I'm wondering what states you guys have been to (or live in) that you really like, and why. Any input on the overseas locations would be appreciated too.
Washington and Germany are my top choices for each as of now.

I didn't know you had any choices at all. I thought they just sent you where they felt like it. My mom goes to McCord once a month for reserves and she really likes the Washington area.

I think things may have changed. Fr'instance my dad (who was in active duty years ago) was surprised that I even had a choice of what job I wanted.
I've always liked the idea of living in the pacific northwest. I'm more of a mountain/forest person than ocean (too many things that can kill and devour me).
All I know is I wanna get far, far away from Indiana.

Well, that depends on what you mean by military base. There's an Air National Guard base at Yaeger Airport in Charleston. My grandfather worked in the Air Guard is whole life. But I'm not sure if that'd count as a base or not.

Washington has all those things. But you probably won't be swimming in the ocean.
By that, do you mean my tech school? Hah I'm not keen on all the acronyms just yet.
Goodfellow AFB, Texas if I get one of the two intel jobs I chose, Sheppard AFB, Texas if I get the medical job.

Also, I thought it was 4 state-side choices and 4 overseas choices for a [I]total[/I'] of eight?
You might be right. It's been awhile since I talked to my recruiter about it. What's cool about this Virginia?
I'd like to hear anything about the overseas places! South Korea, Japan, Germany, England, Italy...any experiences?

Holy shit you guys. Just found out my job. Imagery Analysis. I'll be pointing out what we need to kill on satellite/UAV photographs and such. Plus I'll get a nifty Top Secret-level security clearance. Bad. Ass.

Virginia's a pretty nice state too though. If I enlisted into the USAF that would be my first spot choice.

I'd say California, or somewhere where the weather is nice. My brother signed up for Hawaii as number 1, iirc.

Only regret is that, to the best of my knowledge, only military base in the state is Camp Dawson...
Anyway, Johnny, where are you going for your ATI?

Well, good news is I don't actually live in Charleston. I'm like 15 mins away though.
And I don't like Parkersburg, so there. When I was a senior in high school, they beat us in the state championship in football.

I hate PHS football. (And PSHS football.)
Anyway, this is getting off topic.
Virginia has lots of old colonial things to see.
I always enjoy going there and seeing Colonial Williamsburg.
Though, perhaps you should choose a station on more then that... o.O
