As some of you know, I have a very (about 8 years) old Microsoft mouse (IntelliMouse it seems to be called). It's a pretty nice mouse that has 5 buttons, with 2 buttons on the sides that I actively used in Diablo II, Age of Empires II, and WoW (+ it makes my browsing backfire). I found after installing Windows 7, Diablo II no longer recognizes my extra buttons. Some games just don't really read those buttons at all or do not allow keyboard reconfiguration on those buttons. I don't know if it's a mouse issue really, but the mouse doesn't offer any configuration options itself.
Whatever, I think it's time to buy a new mouse. I want AT LEAST a 5-button mouse, otherwise I can just get another MS IntelliMouse and they're like $12 or something.
I'd prefer to have one button (maybe two) on the right side, and all other buttons on the left side. No buttons in the middle, I can't imagine how I'm supposed to press those. I don't think I'll want too many buttons, because looking at some of those 17-button mice I don't know if my fingers are that precise, has anyone used those?
+ mouse must be responsive, buttons pressable, bla bla bla.
I have a strong dislike towards small mice or wireless mice. This is my current mouse: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-D58-00026-Intellimouse-Optical-Mouse/dp/B00005TQ08/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1307642845&sr=1-1
I prefer something about that size. These minimized tiny little squarish mice just piss me off.
I would rather not overpay for a brand name or anything of that sort. Whether it's a LogiTech or a Razer mouse I really couldn't care less. Unfortunately, I haven't really seen many non-gaming mouse with high DPI or multiple buttons. Mouse must be <200$, preferably <100$.
I like the look of RazerAdder and Razer Lachesis right now, but I haven't used any other mice for the past 8 years so I have no idea how they work at all, so I dunno if these are very good. More DPI = better? I think my mouse has <1k DPI right now.
How does the programming works for the buttons? Which games do they work for and which they don't? Do they come with specific software or is it more like you have to deal with the OS/game?

That mouse looks very nice and fits all my requirements.
Btw, I have a Claw/Finger grip, does that mouse fit that? I don't think it's a big deal but I am reading some complaints about gripping (and tracking? wtf is tracking?).
I'm using the logitech G500 and it's satisfied my gaming standard.
Playing games like: WoW, COD, D2, SC2, Fallout3, etc.
You can add some weight to calibrate how heavy you want the mouse. On my side I just put all the heavier mass so it feels more accurate and ''stick'' on the table.
I'm using this mouse on Solidworks and the match is perfect. Just cost around 60$.
Does the DPI difference make a difference?
The logitech appears to have up to 1600 DPI, unless I'm reading something wrong.
G500 looks butt ugly.
Seems full of win besides that, though. 5700 dpi, 10 buttons...
Some reports about bad buttons though, both on this one and on the 518. My MS mouse still works fine 8 year later.
The Mionix is winning for me for now. It's expensive but considering how rarely I buy mice... They have a nice website as well, and they're Swedish apparently.
Razers, upon further inspection, seem to have a lot of random issues, particularly handling and also malfunctioning, both Lacheis and the Imperator.
Logitech seems to have the typical issue of buttons/laser sensor becoming bad after a while, + design.
If anyone has anything to add please do, I'm very grateful for the replies so far.
Anyone know anything on Roccat Kone or Ikari Laser?

On my side it's been only 3 month that I have the G500, so I can't give you an accurate feedback on the durability. However, after 3 month no sign of failure
I went through the process of buying a new mouse recently and here's what I did.
First, I had a Logitech G-5 wired mouse. The grip is awesome but it's more of a palm mouse as opposed to a claw mouse.
The I got the money top buy a new one. So I tought: Go wireless! But I hated the fact that u have to charge the batteries. So I went all out and bought the Razer Mamba. 160$+tx. Nice mouse, nice packaging but it's more of a claw type mouse which gave me cramps after 1h or so of gaming. So i returned it. Then I got the Mad Catz Cyborg R.a.t.7. Fully ajustable, many cool options and spare parts. Once again, more of a claw type mouse. Even with all the ajustments, i couldnt find a setup that didnt gave me cramps. So returned it, again and I got the Logitech G-500, which is this year's replacement for the G-5 I had. I still got this mouse, and for me, it's the best! Love the gaming position, cool to work with (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet, etc) and it's a bit cheaper than those other mices I bought.
My advise, check out the Razer Deathadder, which is basicly the wired version of the Mamba and a lot cheaper. Or you can go with the Mad Catz Cyborg R.a.t.7 or 5 (which is cheaper). The Mad Catz is a solid product, aluminium frame, nice customisation and affordable.
The mouse I have right now has a button on each side.which is extremely annoying to me. I think it's made for left and right hand. I need one with all the buttons on the left inside of the mouse.
I'm still trying to figure out if DPI is important or what "tracking" even is.
Intellimouse 3.0 looks fine but it has two buttons on the same side I'd rather get a copy of my old one instead. Besides, MS mouse do not come with any software irrc, which is what annoys me.

What's the non-Diablofied equivalent of it? Costs the same as that Mionix but the Mionix has a lot more buttons.

Agree with you. This mouse is awesome, I have this one and the G500. Actually I prefer de G500.

Or you can do as I did, go out and try a few
I certainly don't want the naga. I don't need THAT many buttons, besides I won't be able to use them the way they're placed.
