Honestly I think another cool addition would be for Blizzard to have a graveyard that anyone could visit of the 'best' characters who have died in hardcore(you know, like the top 25-50)... I don't mean to sound WoW on you all, but I'm sure internally items have a ranking(to determine how many stat points to put on it, etc.) and it'd be neat to see who the BEST character to ever be lost in hardcore is. So initially it'd just be level, but once they're all 60s, then it's by the best geared including runes.
I'd like to encourage everyone who approves this idea (whether you'll play softcore or hardcore) to visit the respective threads in the official forums and positively rate the original poster, that is if you have an account that's allowed to post/rate.
I don't see the point of playing HC if dead isn't dead. Besides, imaging the arena fight, you almost won but then lag a bit and the Witch Doctor you're up against kills you. Extreme frustration ensues. It's like having your character die a second time, so for every one 'winner' (who actually did manage to get his HC char killed in the first place) there are 19 sad people.
On the other hand I like the graveyard idea. Also the video of the last seconds would be awesome. Just imagine the hillarity. "No dude, don't go in there" - "It's fine bro, don't worry"
Is there a hardcore section of the forums where I might find a list of tips and strategies for general HC play? I'm looking up HC tips at the moment and compiling my own list that I might post somewhere if one doesn't already exist.
There will be one after the game is released, or if the Hardcore mode is added to the beta.
yeah... Im going to play HC.. but not as a main source of playing.. I just hate the idea of all my work lost in the void... but this in a way would "save" it... I like this idea.. it would get me to play HC more.
This is a great idea! Certainly a good incentive to play this mode, and sound very feasable.
The 30-sec-before-death video feature would be much more complicated, technically, and even more if it just serves the single purpose of having such videos. So unless they add some kind of replay feature for the game itself i don't see that happening.
Account space is finite. "All" of your dead characters isn't reasonable. Your top X could be.
In Diablo 3 though, level is rather meaningless. 60 is the start of the "real" game. The only thing worth recording and showing off would be achievements. So we'd need a system to do that for this feature to be worthwhile.
Q. Can you talk a little bit more about the Halls of the Dead?
JW: The idea is when you lose a hardcore character, you don't really want that character to go away forever and you don't want it to take up a character slot.
Well, it'll probably be optional where you can choose to free up the slot by archiving the dead character into the Halls of the Dead. You'll see the name, the gear on death, and maybe some other stuff.
Maybe add an option to watch the last 30 seconds of their life or something, too. That would be really awesome.
Personally, if I could rewatch the last 30 seconds of some of my hardcore characters I would most likely spiral out of control into a bottomless pit of depression!
Yes, perhaps.
But you would never make that mistake again though. I promise.
What if, when HC characters died, they could enter a 20-man FFA arena battle, where the victor get revived and the rest are perma-dead (as it is now).
Would just mean that for every 20 HC character that dies, one comes back and it would really give an incentive to put on your gameface in PvP
-You'd fight for another chance at life.
The point of HC is that dead means dead, so I can't agree with this.
That is why I play softcore, I don't want to deal with that permanent loss.

I'd settle for some way to simply keep ghosts ala D2, but all the rest sounds great if they'd implement it.

I don't see Blizzard adding a resurrection either. They already said it die and you're dead. The suggested option is quite different, though!
