I was reading some character lore, and i found a quote about how (in diablo 2) there was a female clan of sorceresses Zann Esu that scouted familes which "had one thing in common?they each had a seven-year old daugther."
I wonder if this is in regards to the 7 head minions of hell (3 major, 4 lesser) I mean, there's no such thing as a lucky number in the world of sanctuary, right?
Nah, the Zann Esu are neutral. They strive to be pure, and their final test to see whether they achieved their goal of pureness or not was defeating evil in DII. Somehow I don't think they passed the test though (because it is said that most of the heroes who defeated Diablo were corrupted).
Most of those warriors who directly faced Hell?s armies -- and were fortunate enough to survive -- went mad from their experiences. And most of the others have buried their haunted memories and pushed the horrors from their thoughts.
The Zann Esu, or Sorceresses as they are generally known, are on a quest for the "perfect" magic in its purest form. They feel that the other disciplines of magic are haphazard, and have instead chosen to focus strictly upon elemental magic. They mold the base elements into whatever magical forms they need - threatening all other magic disciplines with obsolescence.
They stay specifically away from other types of magic to attempt to avoid corruption.
but aren't they kind of like the Vizjerei?- I mean mostly because they have to get their powers from somewhere, but then yeah i guess your right from that quote.

In D2 she got her powers from the elements fire, ice, and electricity, this was a bit of a bummer to me. I liked the Sorcerer in D1 better myself, he just seemed cooler to me, loved that staff of the Apocalypse

in the beginning the Vizjerei focused mainly on demonic magics, such as summoning demons. After the incident with Bartuc and Horizon they forsook those magics and returns to their focus on the neutral magics, those being mostly elemental.
If you want to take what is said in the book Demonsbane as truth, then the Vizjerei were almost destroyed by the demons they had summoned, and it was the lesser mage clans(such as teh Zann Esu) that saved their ass since they only practiced the elemental magics.
XD , i still wonder where they get their elemental powers from then, do they tap into the power of the Nephalem(themselves i guess) with that or is their an overarching deity for the elements themselves....or is it just a force that anything with the skill and knowledge can tap into in sanctuary.

Insane or dead.

And the magical abilities they all have come from being descendants of Nephalem I believe.
