Yes I hate it. And I have been trying to come up with the most meaningful, viable and fun alternative - mainly (but not exclusively) for group play. I have tried possible skill/item combinations, even hybrid setups like NV6 + UE2 and NV6 + MR4 since PTR.
-Most significant difference from typical RoV builds is the lack of strafe.
-Without strafe, you can more easily keep your position and distance
for either much better survivability or certain range buffs like steady
aim and zei stone and caltrops/bait the trap.
-Resource management is also not required at all.
-With as close as possible to 50% CDR, +40% Attack Speed, you can
execute RoV at least as many times as in any other existing RoV build
variation.
-With high attack speed, bolas/freezing strike turns into a crazy
fast cooldown eater and the frequency of freezes on hit become quite
noticable and increases its value as a crowd control tool.
-You Use MS for spreading MfD from Calamity, and when you swap MS
with bolas skill frequently to reduce RoV cooldown and maintain double
F+R bonus, the MS shot session is interrupted. Therefore the chance to
knockback is reset rapidly. This allows simultaneous knocbacks in
conjunction with stampede.
-benefit from Strongarm Bracers and its uptime is tremendous with this skill set and rotation.
-apart from other rov variations, attack speed is almost equally essential as CDR.
-the result is a head turning crazy damage output and greater survivability with constant crowd control.
-This build works great with a forward pushing group play, especially on labyrinth and cave like maps.
-Although I'm not that top end, I encourage everyone who's willing to give this build a shot. The playstyle might require a bit getting used to but as soon as you catch the beat, I'm sure some of you might like it.
looks pretty fun, just make sure you don't use this build in a group that's planning on locking mobs in place. Rapidfire is more suitable for most group play in high rifts.

And here's what I have ended up with so far:
