I dunno how much you played on the earlier Diablo game, but yea, it had a light radius. Which to me looks like you stuck a lantern in your tailpipe, but I didn't mind it much in those games. It would bother me more now, though.
I'm talking about the new screenshot. It's static shadow.
Well, you can't know whether it's static or not until you see a video witch a char coming over with a torch and/or light radius. It's a screenshot so you cannot judge what lighting was used.
That screenshot only shows different color for ambient lighting and some stains here and there which is all good. But if you watch the gameplay trailer you will easily find locations which are at least as dark and shaded as this one if not more. You can clearly see barbarian traversing through nearly pitch-black hallways having his own light-radius as the only source of light. People really just analyze the still screenshots which are actually the brightest locations one could pick.
Be it real or not, it's not much of a change expect for the color, and knowing how dungeons in D1/D2 used to change their colour drastically as a part of the whole randomization thing, I wouldn't be surprised if that is how Tristram cathedral would look like when you enter it sometimes.
I did not say that you can. Do you have to see all of it?
The way I imagine it, the important areas, aka main areas, are the ones that can be well lit. Other areas, for example, where a chest may be hidden, may be darker or even black until your character comes over.
Why jump between extremities like "make it all black" and "make it all brightly lit".
They could implement torches instead, I liked that in games like Gothic and Oblivion.
I don't see why they'd go through all the trouble of designing a large 3-d dungeon landscape and only allow you to see bits and pieces of it. I think the candle lights should reach all parts of the dungeon you are meant to see, maybe far away looks really dark and only slightly visible, but still you can see it. Makes the dungeons darker without making you miss out on the place. A nice middle ground there.
Torches? how would you dual wield or have a shield?
And Blizter, I thought you were talking about the D2 screenshot, but yea I guess it makes sense now.

Well, I did like the gameplay trailer a lot more than the screenshots.

You can see all of it if you look carefully. And, they did this in DII, so I don't understand your problem considering that DII hardly let you see anything. Not that there was much to see in DII, for that matter...

Candle lights should only reach as far as they should be able to. Want a lighter area, add one more candle light. Don't make this unrealistic light-extension thing they did with the green hue.
They can have brightly lit dungeons, or they can have darker dungeons (like the screenshot), or possibly even a few DII style dungeons (can't see shit lol). No need to make them all the same.

Sounds awful to me. Seems like they treat me as some idiot player who cannot visit the darker areas to see them better or something. I don't like all the chests to be in my face. I want some of the hidden from view a bit. Maybe some interesting stuff hidden from view. So that I could explore, not just run through a dungeon blindly killing monsters and cursing Blizzard's total lack of artistic ability (talking about DII here).

Weapon swap. The reason they did do light radius in the previous games is because you can't wield torches without slowing down the process. You have to accept one or the other. Either torches, or light radius, but please don't tell me 100% of all dungeons are brightly lit and to see them all you didn't need a torch or something

Honestly, TL;DR.
You shouldn't have to strain that much to see all of it. I never said put a green hue. You can see the whole dungeon in d2 if you walk around to every place. If they want pitch black dungeons, then they can, but in that one you should be able to see the entire room. I already said a light radius doesn't make any more sense than candle lights going into the far reaches of the dungeon like they actually would in real life. You can still explore stuff after you kill the monsters. Why would you waste a weapon slot on a worthless torch? The dungeons don't need to be lit brightly through and through, just enough to where you can see without a huge effort.
Yea I know, I was like "Damn, I hope Daemaro won't spoil it".
Equinox too, but he didn't.
I would of spoiled it for the simple fact that now this will get near 0 attention from Blizzard. I'm sure they have more important things to do than get online and tell everyone this was a troll. Now they probably feel insulted and their time wasted.
I want more pictures like this too. So I can live in the fake reality what would be my dream Diablo. This picture, it's.. It's really got atmosphere. It really felt like a dark, candle-lit room... Too sad it's all fake, but hey, it's a really good pic. This screenshot gave me hope, but it was destroyed all the same as it appeared.
Well done Corwyn.

I mean, pre-generated shadow. It's calculated once then it doesn't change. So a light-radius wouldn't work in it. I dont know, I'm not a 3d expert.

Over confidence is the rot.
Made it because I knew Bashiok would need to post.
Got his attention, plan worked.
Mission successful

Render is not from me, it's from Corwyn.

I want to contact him and ask to join his team if he wants to make a hack&slash game.

That was the post I've been trying to find. I remember I saw that image on some forum but I forgot which.
Too bad I wasn't awake when all this happened I would of told everyone it was Corwyns.
Yea I know, I was like "Damn, I hope Daemaro won't spoil it".

Goddamn. Was on page 2 when I posted:D

It isn't Diablo III.
I'm guessing it's from another game or someone took the time to actually create it, which would be pretty cool. So no ideas where it's from then?
From the diablo 3 battle.net forums.
That is a big disapointment.
Well done Corwyn.
