I'm going to be getting my computer in a week or so and I have no idea on what speakers to get. I was thinking of getting the logitech z906 but then I read that they weren't worth it. So now I'm thinking about getting the Edifier s550. It's either those two or go home theater SS, which will be even more confusing for me.
Music isn't really on the top of my list. I want something more for gaming and watching movies. I'm going to hook my tv up to the computer so I can watch blu ray's on that. So the speakers have to work like that. I know next to nothing about speakers so if you get really technical on me I'll be lost.
I've been using the Z-5500 system for years now and still love them, they're much cheaper now also. The Edifier s550 system looks nice though, if there's one thing I wish the Z-5500s had, it would be tweeters.

Have had the pleasure of hearing the Z906 up close in personal many a time...its worth it in my opinion...unless you can find something cheaper for same quality..if so..lemme know cuz i'll be upgrading soon too...and ima gonna want me some sick as speakers too.
As a guy who spent weeks, months even, trying to obtain a set of the Edifier S550's in America, I hope you understand when I say that you will probably not be able to get them.
They are only available in countries like Malaysia and occasionally European countries and Australia. Occasionally. To buy them from the only site that ships to America, it would cost over $1,000. NOT worth it.
The Logitech Z-5500's are nice, but, they lack midrange sound and defined highs. I had this EXACT same conundrum you have here for a few months. I did hard research. Very hard. I ended up settling with a used set of the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1's.
The Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1's are undoubtedly the best PC speaker system you can obtain in America. The problem with them was that the amp overheated and basically died. They were discontinued because of this. However, I have modded my amplifier with a cooling kit that I got for only $20 and now they seem to be surviving indefinitely. I love them. They are the best PC Speakers I've ever heard in my life. I've heard the Z-2300's, the Z-5500's, the X-230's, plenty of BOSE, Altec Lansing and the ProMedia 2.1's, nothing compares quite like it.
The Z-5500's are good, though, don't get me wrong. They just will never have the definition that the ProMedia Ultra 5.1's have. The good thing about getting the Ultra's is that they will likely be cheaper due to being discontinued and used, even if you integrate a cooling kit. It's a bit of tech work, but, for me it was worth it.
Basically, if you are willing to go the extra mile for PC audio, the modded Ultra's are worth it. However, if you don't want to bother with the hassle and don't care about extremely loud, not really tight at all uber-boomy bass, then, go with the Z-5500. The Z-5500 are loud as all hell (the Ultra's are very, very loud too though) and such, but, they lack clarity in their highs, midrange, and the bass is just insane. Not in the good way like the Ultra's is, though.
Never heard the Z-906, and they look fairly new, but, I doubt they have any better sound quality than the Z-5500's. They also lack a tweeter. To me, that's important. They also appear to have gotten fairly mediocre reviews.
Don't bother buying any of these speakers though without a dedicated sound card, such as the Asus Xonar DX or D2X (what I use).
I'm a PC Audiophile. Need anything else, just ask.

Thanks for the help NeciFiX. So say you had the s550 and the ProMedia Ultra infront of you which one would you pick now. I have found a place that sells them. And from your post it looks like they might be the speakers I want. Will they work with my tv and computer hooked up together?
I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional.
