I've played D2, and am enthusiastic for D3, but it just so happens that over the years my D2 discs couldn't handle the pummeling I had given them, so now I can't go back to D2 to bring back the old memories that I want to re-live.
I decided that instead of re-buying D2 which I had played to death, I'd like to instead play D1 to catch up on the earlier storyline (it would be nice to know the true significance of tristram) and also see what all the fuss was about with its scary factor and what this "the butcher" really is.
Basically, I want to get D1 (expansion not necessary, but would be nice too). However, the game is too old to still be on the shelves in stores and I don't know of any friends that have the game hanging around. Also, I don't have a credit/debit card so I can't buy it online. The only way I can think of to pay for it online would be by getting them to charge it on my phone bill.
So is there a free downloadable for D1, or a way to pay for it with my restrictions? Single Player is all I want.
Illegal/cracked software is generally looked down upon on these forums... so sorry man, won't be able to direct you towards a free source.
However, if you're willing to pay a bit, check at used games stores near you. I recently got a copy of an old game I had been looking for, which I thought I would never find (Baldurs Gate 2).

Knowing that D1 wouldn't cost more than $50, I really don't care about the money. Whether it is free or paid for doesn't bother me. What does bother me however is that I don't know of any used game stores near my location or anywhere for that fact, so the way to go about it would be to buy it online, but again, I don't have a credit card so that will pose difficulties for me.
Ah, that poses a bit of a problem...
Well, check yer phonebook, theres bound to be one kicking around.
Or, some cities have an information line that you can call and get info about the city, such as where certain stores are.

I was really hoping for an online site that could get me to pay in such a way. I know I'll be running across the country if I do find a store that sells D1 (literally running, I can't drive yet ^_^). Anyway, I'll use your suggestion and search through a phonebook and hopefully find something convenient in there.
You can order it on the blizzard site www.blizzard.com/diablo scroll down and you can order it. Or you can get it threw the Diablo Battle chest which has d1 d2 and LoD

If someone were nice enough on these forums they could mail you a copy. Do you have paypal? All you need is a bank account for paypal. Some online stores also let you shop with Paypal; no creditcard required.

Hey bro. I see you're from Australia. I've seen Diablo 1 avaliable to buy from JB Hi-Fi and EBGAMES. You could probably try buying it online from ebgames.co.nz or something. It was like $15 when I saw it last week.
Good luck. I'd like to try HellFire TBH, never got hold of it.
You can go on the blizzard website and go to their store and see if you can download Diablo 1. Otherwise, you may be forced to buy a battle chest for about 35 US Dollars. There also is the option of illegal downloading but thats virus prone and well.. illegal so i wouldnt do it.

Does not compute.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
