Basically, I've just started playing D1 and have a few simple questions about gameplay and what-not.
Ok firstly, is it possible to keep swinging my sword as a warrior without constantly clicking? Maybe shift+click and hold or something along those lines?
Secondly, should I get straight into the expansion and start playing that? If the expansion is anything like D2 LOD which I would consider just an add-on to the original, then I would definitely go with the expansion.
Thirdly, what is actually happening when I try use the warrior's repair skill on an item. It seems to lose its total durability. A consequence of repairing it myself? Maybe my skill in that spell isn't high enough?
Fourth and finally, when/how do I get new spells?
Yep, get straight into the expansion if you already have it.
Warrior's repair skill isn't as good as a professional blacksmith's, so yeah the consequence will always be that the total durability goes down, no matter your skill level (I don't think you can raise that skill anyway). Its only good for emergencies or for weapons you don't care about keeping for very long.
Aand you gain new spells by finding books in the dungeons (or buying them from Adria). So every character in Diablo I could potentially learn all the same spells, it just depends on what books you randomly find and if you have enough mana to support it. When you find two books of the same spell, that spell is upgraded a level. So of course there are some spells that are a must for all characters, but its really whatever you want to do.
Also remember that if you get stuck, I'm sure there is a way to start a new game with the same character, thereby refilling the dungeon with monsters again, hopefully getting a new scenario where you won't get stuck again. It also allows you to gain more experience and level up to get past the monsters you were stuck on.
Ahh thanks for the help. Yeah, on the first level dungeon in the cathedral (very first monsters you meet) I found it much too easy, then the second level was much too hard... hehe the pack of monsters tripled in size.
What is the difference between a scroll of healing and potion of healing anyway?
Thats fine. I'll monitor them closely when I use each to see if I can spot a difference.
The shift+click and hold doesn't seem to be working for me. I have to revert to the basic click-spam routine
Damn. I was sure shift+click would work. I have memories of my warrior making that cool grunting noise over and over. Maybe I held down shift but had to keep clicking.
And I have no idea what the newest patch is for Hellfire, I've never actually played it. Remember too though that Hellfire isn't an official Blizzard product, so there may not be patches for it. I dunno, you'd have to look it up. Try the Phrozen Keep.
Yeah I'm holding shift to keep my position and clicking constantly. One can only dream
hellfire isn't an official blizzard product? Uhh.. then who made it?
It was made by Sierra, though I'm not sure what the deal was exactly between Blizzard and Sierra for making the expansion. Here's some more information: http://diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Hellfire
Many of the later bugfixes introduced in patches for Diablo do not carry over into Hellfire, and Sierra only released one patch, fixing a small number of bugs exclusive to Hellfire itself.

What dooes scroll of search actually do? I can't seem to figure out what changes happen after I use one...?
(Your post was merged for double-posting: Please be sure to use the Edit function on your previous post if you decide you have something else you want to say and no one has responded in the meantime. Thanks )
Never actually used scroll of search, is that included in Hellfire ?
And btw, you should be fine without Hellfire. I've never played it, and still got tons of enjoyment out of D1.
edit: And about the scrolls, I only ever found them useful for the rogue or the sorcerer. They seem to heal much more health than the potions of healing for them. As for the warrior, I'd go with the potions only, since the spell takes longer to cast, and you'll often be on the front lines of combat.

The only benefits in hellfire really are you can run and there are 2 new quests and you can get hte apocalypse skill instead of having to use a 15 charged staff (If your using it legitly)

I'm having a hard time trying to play the sorceror. Basically because I frequently need to switch between holy bolt, heal and fire bolt and pressing s to bring up the spell list and selecting the new spell I need takes too much time in the heat of battle.
Sure, I would usually just practice to do quick successive clicks to increase the speed at which I toggle each spell, but I can't do this when I keep grabbing new scrolls and spells etc. along the way, moving the position of the spells I need
Is there a way of selecting a hotkey for each spell? Else, I think I'll need to create a macro for it. Yeah, I'm a spoilt new-age gamer that don't like difficult

What you can do is bring up your spells and mouse over fireball and hit f5 then go over holy bolt and hit f6 and then you can switch em out with f5 and f6 so you dont gatta hit s and select the spell
