:Thumbs Up: This is my Diablo 3 fan fiction. I noticed that it seems that there are every so often fallen angels, yet it doesn't seem that any of the demons ever ascend into the high heavens from the burning hells for good. Perhaps after the fall of the Prime Evils it would be possible that an unknown demon could ascend to the high heavens as a new Archangel. This is my story's premise.
Deliryal
In the Eastern Swamps of Sanctuary the Priests of Rathma had for some 20 years been out of Balance with the rest of the cosmos. Their numbers had been dwindling, and some of the leaders of the Necromancers feared that the end of their kind was soon to come. Finally, Aztrilyus, the last initiate that the Priests of Rathma would have for the foreseeable future, came before the council, to witness the vision of Trag'Oul to complete his training and to become a fully fledged Necromancer. As Aztrilyus saw the vision of Trag'Oul, Trag'Oul spoke to him saying, "I have seen the Balance change. The Worldstone is destroyed, the Eye of Anu is no more. The seven evils that once ruled the Burning Hells are trapped within a Black Soulstone. I will tell you of the unknown ones, the demons that were not under the influence of the seven evils. I have kept them secret in their chambers of isolation.
"Now it is time for them to come forth and establish a new Balance. I will have you become an Astrologist rather than a Necromancer. Aztrilyus, as an Astrologist you will have a new kind of energy. Rather than relying on mana you will utilize cosmos. Cosmos is an energy that emanates from demons, angels, or their combined offspring, whether living, spirit, or undead, that are out of Balance. When you kill them you will receive cosmic energy and your cosmos will increase. You will use your cosmos in ways that you have never used mana before.
"You can change the alignment of demons into angels and angels into demons in order to reestablish the Balance as you see fit. You will utilize your cosmos to create storms of radiation that will melt the week and mutate the strong. You will utilize your cosmos to create the vacuum of space and time that will suffocate the living and control the dead. You will utilize your cosmos to create strong fields of gravitation that will immobilize the large and slow the small.
"You will utilize your cosmos to create armies of angels and demons that will fight in your name. You will also utilize your cosmos to elevate the unknown demons that I have secluded in their chambers of isolation to the level of archangels. You will utilize your cosmos to uncover the unknown demons and the unknowable angels. There are unknowable angels, which shall be known when you reach your maximum power and your cosmos is used with divining rods of supreme mastery and orrory of magnificent quality.
"You will use your orrory as shields against elemental attacks and to enhance your gravitational defensive powers. You will also use your divining rods as weapons to dispense your radiation and vacuum attacks. You will also need to destroy this temple and all of its inhabitants; you are come unto them as a destroyer. No necromancers shall remain otherwise the Balance shall fall into catastrophe. Do not tell them what I have told you, or that you will initiate their destruction. After your vision with me has ended your divining rod and your orrory will be teleported into your hands. The Priests of Rathma will not know what it means. You will initiate a surprise attack with your orrory and subdue them with gravitation that they cannot move neither their armies. And you will shoot them with radiation that they melt and that their strong ones mutate into vile abominations. And you will surround them with the vacuum that they're living shall die and that their dead shall be in your power. In this shall the Balance be maintained.
"They will not die easily. There will be many of them that you will need to destroy and many powerful elders that will resist you. But you must press forward and reach the innermost sanctum that you may reveal the unknown demons from their seclusion and transform them into unknowable archangels. Maltheal has become an Angel of Death and has taken the Black Soulstone. I see that this creates a fantastic Imbalance on the side of evil and must be counterweighted to buy the creation of new and more powerful archangels. Now ends your vision and begins your quest. Do not fail the Balance to which you have sworn allegiance it is your only hope and humanity's only salvation," Trag'Oul said in Aztrilyus' mind.
Aztrilyus comprehended all that was said unto him, and as he saw the divining rod and the orrory appear in his hands, both golden and gleaming, he bathed the gathering with gravitation from his orrory which subdued all within an extremely wide radius that they could not move, neither the armies of undead. Aztrilyus stretched his divining rod forth and shot a screeching burst of radiation like electric fire that roasted those paralyzed by his gravity. Their armies burned, melted, and exploded in enormous heaps of bone, blood, flesh, and sinew. The calamity created an alarm which went forth throughout the great city of the necromancers.
The elders of the necromancers, who were standing in the watchtowers, began to run forth to see the cause of the destruction and to put a stop to it. They too were inundated with gravitation, a force they had never before experienced in combat. Immense weight crippled most of them, but some of them were strong enough to endure, and they called legions of undead forth. Others were wiser and began to use strategy and called undead insects forth that were less affected by the gravitational field. Notwithstanding this stratagem, which some of the elder necromancers employed, Aztrilyus roasted the insects with radiation and mutated some of them into monstrosities.
After seeing his creations mutate from the insects that were gathered together against him he shot an expansive thunder bolt forth which divided the air and it did not return together again creating a vacuum. The vacuum of space and time entranced the undead creations he had mutated and gave him power over them to send them back against the ones that had caused the insects to come forth. Some of the elders saw Aztrilyus venture within proximity to some of their fallen undead and seeing an opportunity they created corpse explosions that hit Aztrilyus injuring him to within half his vitality. Aztrilyus did not have any method of healing himself as of yet and thus he was in grave danger of being defeated.
Aztrilyus sent volleys of vacuum of space and time over some of the nearby fallen corpses which reanimated them and gave him control over them so that they would not any longer become a danger to his life through explosion. Aztrilyus seeing he had gained an advantage over his prey began to sweep them before him like leaves before the wind. Eventually, Aztrilyus succeeded in reaching the inner sanctum, and with a final volley of his cosmic powers he eradicated the remainder of the necromancers that were left to guard it. Only a few necromancers left the field of battle and slinked into the swamps that they might not become a prey to their newly found foe.
Aztrilyus used a powerful spell and created a portal into the unknown cavities deep within the Burning Hells. Aztrilyus entered the portal and soon he heard the giddy laughter of an unknown demon. "Who is there, unknown demon? What is your name?" Aztrilyus asked.
"I doubt I will tell you because I doubt you can know it," the unknown demon said from out of the darkness.
"Trag'Oul has told me of you, and that you should become an Archangel by the powers he has given to me, with which I have destroyed the entirety of the necromancers save only a few which have scattered into the swamps," Aztrilyus said.
"I doubt Trag'Oul has spoken to you. I doubt I could become an Archangel. I doubt I will ever leave this place. I doubt everything you say," the unknown demon said.
"Then you must be the Demon of Doubt, one of the unknown demons that Trag'Oul has secluded in this hidden place. I will commune with Trag'Oul, and he will tell me your name as he has promised," Aztrilyus said. Aztrilyus went back through the portal and to the place of his first vision with Trag'Oul. Aztrilyus saw the gory mess of bones and blood blanketing the main theater of the temple, but he paid it no mind and regained the vision of Trag'Oul.
"You have done as I have said. The Balance is now about to be maintained. Go back to the secluded chamber. Tell the Unknown Demon of Doubt its name is Deliryal. This will place a spark of trust in its withered heart. After Deliryal has accepted that you have spoken with me, Deliryal will begin to trust you. You must get Deliryal to leave the secluded chamber and go with you through the portal. You must take Deliryal with you in your quest and prove your worthiness by defeating all who oppose you. Deliryal will not help you fight. If you begin to lose Deliryal will leave you quickly. If this happens you must come back to his secluded sanctum and reacquire him, for it is there that he shall flee.
"Now go. You must take Deliryal to the cavity inside Mount Arreat. Malthael will attempt to use the Black Soulstone to reconstruct the Worldstone and bend its new creation to his own will to undo the world of Sanctuary. Malthael has become death incarnate, therefore, the Balance requires life in place of death, this is why I had you destroy the necromancers, for they would have become puppets to Malthael's evil plan, and helped him destroy the entire world. You must seek out the few necromancers that remain and eradicate them. Do not show them mercy because they will not bend to your will, Malthael will have all power over them and if they are numerous enough they will defeat you and the entire world will be doomed. As I have said, now go," Trag'Oul said ending the vision.
Aztrilyus returned to the secluded chamber through the portal. "Deliryal," Aztrilyus said.
"How come you by that name? I am known by that name." Deliryal said.
"Trag'Oul has spoken with me as I have told you," Aztrilyus said.
"Trag'Oul? Trag'Oul is the only one that knows my name. Therefore, a spark of trust has begun to flicker in my corrupted heart. I believe you. What will you that I should do? Though I doubt I could do it, yet I am willing to listen because of the trust that has begun to spring up within me," Deliryal said.
"I would that you should follow me out of this hidden sanctum through the portal and to the cavity within Mount Arreat. There, I shall do battle with Malthael and stop his evil plans to destroy Sanctuary. You need do nothing but follow me there, and when the time is right, and my powers are supreme, I shall transform you into the Archangel of Trust. It is Trag'Oul's will as well as mine in whom you have placed your spark of trust," Aztrilyus said.
"I will do as you command. I will go with you through the portal and follow you to Mount Arreat. And there I shall desire to become the Archangel of Trust, though I doubt we will succeed, I will give this spark of trust a try to see if it will grow and fuel your power to create new life in the High Heavens. I trust that I will join with the Angiris Council. I trust we will establish a greater Balance. Though I doubt all shall come to pass as I trust it shall," Deliryal said.
They both left through the portal and journeyed to Mount Arreat. Along the way, the Astrologist met new more powerful necromancers who had been corrupted by Malthael's evil influence. Aztrilyus created monumental armies of demons and angels, vast showers of radiation, immense cavities of vacuum, and fantastic fields of gravitation eventually to conquer and climb his way to the cavity in Mount Arreat and face Malthael himself. And it was there, when Aztrilyus was struck down by Malthael at the climax of his battle, proving that Malthael was correct in saying, 'Nothing can stop death,' that Aztrilyus cast his final spell at the moment of his death, which gave Deliryal the power to ascend into the high heavens as the Archangel of Trust.
A magnificent beam of light bursts forth from Deliryal, and shot straight into the heavens, shattering his demonic image and birthing from it an angel of light, the Aspect of Trust. Brilliant silver and gold armor strapped itself around his new angelic frame and his wings of light, the color of bright copper in the sunlight, stretched out in a splendid wingspread. His angelic facial features were shrouded by a silver and gold trimmed hood. Deliryal ascended into the High Heavens and introduced himself to the Angiris Council with the assistance of Trag'Oul and explain how he could turn the tide against Malthael if they would place their trust in him as he would place his trust in them.
The Angiris Council voted that day whether or not to add Deliryal to their ranks. Tyrael voted in favor of Deliryal saying that: "This day a new life has joined the ranks of the Archangels and it is wisdom that we favor his joining the council." Imperius voted against Deliryal saying: "No demon can ever truly be trusted." Auriel voted in favor of Deliryal saying: "My hope is that, with this new trust, we can forge a greater Balance as Trag'Oul has foreseen." Itherael abstained from voting saying: "The threads of fate cannot bind evil to good and good to evil; however, the threads of this new Archangel's fate depend entirely on the new Balance." And thus with that final vote Deliryal the Archangel of Trust joined the Angiris Council to help forge a new Balance, to help save Sanctuary from destruction.
