Yea and those who are bad healers are the bad people who eventually get kicked out of all guilds/clans/minor parties.
If you are good, they want you there, so you are not all that replacable. And people who can use their class properly (instead of messing it up) are not that easy to find.
If you play like rubbish of course you are replaceable. I'm replacable.
Diablo II, on the other hand, well, everyone can kill Diablo, it's not hard... so it really doesnt' raise my self-esteem much. I just like killing stuff, but that's it.
I'm not saying that each raid doesn't have a valuable member, as most guilds will have a few people (usually healers) who they rely on more than others. But at the end of the day there are still thousands of capable players out there.
I seem to be in a minority with regards to feeling like a bad ass when I kill the Lord of Terror. I guess I just get really into the game and when I kill (in lore terms) the craziest and toughest fucker in Sanctuary it feels better than being part of a 25 man team that kills someone that Arthas pwned by himself.
And greymann, to say that single play is dead is an absurd thing to claim. Ever played Half-Life 2? Bioshock? KOTOR? Crysis? Civ 4? Or any other superb and popular singe player game that has been released in the last couple of years? Because I have, and I generally find them more fun and rewarding. I don't really feel the need to show off to randomers over the internet (the irony of writing this on an internet forum this hasn't escaped me :D).
I guess we just have a different viewpoint, when you complete a single player game you think "well everyone has done that, no one can see me do it and no one cares that I've done it" whereas I think "I just killed X. I fucking rule". It doesn't matter to me at that point that other people have done it as well because at that moment I'm totally engrossed in the game and I have never once thought "Shit, I wish some randomer over the internet had seen me do this. It would feel much better if a randomer was impressed by my endeavours" or "Well, other people have done that as well so it isn't really notable. What a waste of time."
i dont mind a MMO diablo , but i do hate having to kill diablo with 25 people
I can't see how a Diablo MMO would work in a way that I would want. I want to be able to solo Diablo, but making it MMO and being able to solo Diablo would completely devalue Diablo (as in DIablo himself). At present, killing Diablo in Diablo 2 works in lore terms as your character is considered to be one of the greatest and most powerful heroes in Sanctuary, and you don't share your gameworld with millions of others. It is inconsequential that millions of others have killed Diablo, because they are not sharing the same persistent game world, hence anyone who kills Diablo is a true hero of Sanctuary.
But if Diablo was an MMO and Diablo was soloable then this wouldn't work as you would be sharing a persistent game world with millions of other people who could also solo Diablo and therefore killing him would not be a big deal. It makes such a difference if you are sharing a gameworld with millions of others, if a Diablo MMO were to be made then Blizzard would have to make it similar to killing Illidan in WOW ie. requring 25 of the most skilled and well geared players on a server, otherwise Diablo would be a joke. It makes such a difference if it's a shared world with thousands of others, which is why in my opinion a Diablo MMO would be something that I would never want to see, as the whole point of Diablo is that you are a hero faced with impossible odds but still manage to fuck over all of hell and it's denizens.
A starcraft MMO on the other hand would work as there has never been the concept of "one against all" in that world, and in my opinoin would make a fucking sick game.
Hey, new to the forums, but I couldn't help signing up and putting in my two cents. Personally I think that it can be a MMO very effectively. I've never really played mmorpgs, but if they departed from traditional grinding and put in more hack n slash the game could be excellent. While I fear the monthly fee as much as the next seasoned diablo veteran, it may be the price for next-gen gaming these days.
As for the comments about being able to solo diablo, this can still be done easily, in fact blizzard did it in diablo 2 already. Basically, the difficulty of monsters in an instance can be scaled to the amount of players in the instance. So, if you want to go in there alone, you can do that and come out victorious with diablo's ear. Or, if you wish to have large-scale warfare against him, get a group of forty, and he can be scaled up to be an even beefier foe. As these are instances, it can vary from party to party. They did this in diablo 2 where monsters grew stronger as more people joined the game, I fail to see why they could not do this for instances in an mmorpg. Anyway, just my thought.
well if they are going to make it an mmo i dont think they should have normal nightmare and hell modes, It should just be such a long game that by the time you reach the final boss you are like lvl 80+, see what I mean? and if you can pick good or evil, evil should be able to disrupt the goods quests and good should be able to disrupt the evils quests. there would have to be alot of cheks and balances though.

just think about it... there is no real place in the diablo world for an mmo... the cities are too small and there is relativily nothing to the world therefore if you put thousands of people there they really just wont fit... you wouldnt be able to level cuz everyone would be killing everything around you unless there were about 100000 realms and a 200 player cap for each.

Blizzard can make it work though. I'm sure there is plenty of material from the books for the game to be converted into an MMO, and IF it is converted to MMO I for one have enough faith in Blizzard (the same company that brought the other games that we love to death) would do an amazing job. Whoever is skeptical about a Diablo MMO is only ignorant because of their lack of ambition and innovation which Blizzard has always shown in their games. If they announce that they are making an MMO I would be 150% sure they would make it outstanding, since they announced it's going to be a "next-gen MMO" I'm 200% sure it will be amazing.
The only neccesities for a new Diablo game is Matt Uelmen on music and Blizzard, it doesn't even matter that most of the original team from D1 and D2 aren't there because Blizzard's just that good=] they don't sell crap.

I don't know how old most of the people posting in the forum are but in regards to pay to play I just want to add that paying for wow on a monthly basis is cheaper than one trip to a night club w/ drinks, cheaper than going to a movie w/ popcorn drink etc. cheaper than paying for green fees and a cart. Whatever other hobbies you may have the $15 for WoW is probably less.

People have a mental block with that, I think it's the loser stigma surrounding pay to play games.
If you go to a club or a movie every weekend and spend $50.00, it's still more acceptable to society then paying $15.00 a month to play a game which is too complicated for most people.
And of course it's the teenagers which have the above image problems and are jobless.
