So, today we are given the epic announcement that SWTOR will be released upon the masses on December 20th, 2011.
A day after we are given the news that Diablo 3 will not ship in 2011.
Coincidence?
No. Not at all.
Blizzard has really annoyed me this time. And it's not like before. It's not like when I knew they were taking additional time to make quality games. It's a new animal entirely. It's when I know they are competing with other companies and deliberately pushing things around as to garner the largest market share of their sales and titles.
And at first, I was a little dubious. I was thinking, perhaps Blizzard sees some areas of the game not polished. Then I thought, there's no possible way with a design team as competent and as rich as Blizzard's that 2008 to 2011 wasn't enough time to fully complete Diablo 3, plus all the time before they even announced its development to us. I told myself, theres no possible way Diablo 3 could need an additional month or two of polishing. Time that will inherently go into packaging the game and producing it for sale on the market.
And then the SWTOR announcement hit. And it solidified all my doubts and totally re-established my belief that Blizzard is not in this for us and their motto that they are is delusional.
Hear me out.
They pushed back Diablo 3 to 2012 because they knew Diablo 3 would be releasing within the same month/time frame as SWTOR before we knew the release date. They even made sure to tell us before SWTOR's date was announced. This is a marketing strategy. They will sell Diablo 3 when the market has already been over-saturated by SWTOR and the initial hype is wearing down.
And because of Blizzard's ... Whatever you'd call this, we now have to wait even longer for Diablo 3. After already waiting 11 years. They want us to wait longer. To release the same exact game they would have released this year. All because they want to suck up as much money as possible and SWTOR could be a possible deterrent for releasing in the 2011 season. And of course, it's to "polish" the game. Polish a game that's been in development for 3,000 years.

"When men are most sure and arrogant, they are commonly the most mistaken, and have then given views to passion, without that proper deliberation and suspense which can alone secure them from the grossest absurdities"
I'll just say that both companies were waiting for the other to make a move first and Blizzard did. Either way, Blizzard has been screwing with us for the past couple of months and I'm getting sick of being strung along. Time for this puppet to cut his strings.
"Suck up as much money as possible" and "Make sure the servers can be payed for and the game is received by a wider audience" are 2 very different things. Marketing is one of Blizz's most excellent departments and over the years they haven't disappointed anyone, apart from some that don't like games being pushed slightly more.
No, it's very obvious Blizzard has been yanking the Diablo 3 chain around. And rather than release the game their fanbase has been hungering for for over 10 years, they decide to push it back. Because they decided it can't stand on its own next to SWTOR.
Absolutely pathetic and it should tell us about Blizzard's real resolve and their actual faith in Diablo 3. This is ridiculous to push our game back into the unknown time frame of "early 2012". Not even, "January 2012" or anything. Just, "early 2012".
The absolute worst of it is, is how painfully obvious the game doesn't even need said "polish", and how amazingly tight it already is. They are literally hanging on this mantra of "when its done", even when the game is obviously done at the expense of their playerbase because they can't release the game at the same time as SWTOR.

If the game is as polished as you say then instead they could've just released it right now, just in front of Skyrim and plenty of other opponents, rolling in cash and laughing joyfully with no remorse. Also the SWtoR release date was announced after the D3 delay announcement. It's just EA trying to capture some of you angry Blizz fans. :]
As another guy posted in a similar topic: Yes let's make the same amount of money after a 4 month period that we could right now.
ugg these threads are getting old, this is a company which 100% scarped a game that was "almost finished" simply because "it was not as good as they could do". Its Moved to 2012 because thats when it can be the game THEY WANT. Enough with these dumb no basis conspiracy theories about why they moved it back.
Skyrim was already planned to come out 11/11/11.
I don't know why you guys keep bashing blizz for pushing it back due to reasons you don't even know are true.
I'd rather have the game come out when it's at its best. This is one of the reasons I love Blizzard Entertainment, they don't necessarily need the money due to the WoW cash cow, so they can afford to push back their games until they are at their best.

My place really was here. I was too foolish and stubborn to notice. But, what I truly hoped for then was here. Why do I always realize it When I've already lost it.

SWTOR releasing on December 20th is definitely not a "dumb no basis conspiracy theory".
In fact, it pretty much proves why Diablo 3 was moved back. To claim otherwise is ludicrous.
They scrapped StarCraft Ghost because it was for out-dated consoles and wouldn't make them money.

yeah... uh... that came after... blizzard would have no way of knowing... they would also want it to come out before it... if your theory were true..... wow...
and yeah thats not why it was canceled... they would have made up money... due to canceling they lost 100% of production costs of a pretty much done product..
they are a company that strives on maken the best game they can, if theres something they dont like, they will release it at a later time.
I find it funny how fast Blizzard is deleting anything with the name SWTOR on their forums.
They've always deleted threads about games that weren't for that forum unless they were in off-topic. They simply no longer have an off-topic forum and they've stated that they don't want to moderate one. Blizzard isn't Facebook Forum Mode, there's plenty of places to discuss any non-Blizzard game.

SWTOR was announced to be released at the date after Diablo 3 was announced to be pushed back. Why aren't you conspiracy theorizing about how EA is releasing early to capitalize on D3 not releasing this year? That might actually make at least a lick of sense.
It's like you guys just want to get yourselves worked up and mad. On a side note, Ghost was canceled because it was being made by two third-party organizations. One of them sold the material to the other, the second one dissolved (bought out by Blizzard) and Blizzard didn't want to put their own time into it. It wasn't even a Blizzard game.
The OP is way off base. (Besides the fact that they are entirely different games.) If Blizzard really knew the SWTOR release date and if D3 is completely ready to go, they would most likely release D3 BEFORE the release date of SWTOR.
My reasoning is this: D3 is not subscription based. Unlike with WOW, Blizz gets no money from your continued playing, other than what they would possibly earn from you with the RMAH. If they would release prior to SWTOR, people would buy the game looking for something new to play, even those that know SWTOR will be their game. The initial purchase price is what Blizz really cares about with this title would already be in their pocket. On the other hand, if they wait until after SWTOR is released, the masses could potentially be so hooked to SWTOR that they don't consider picking up D3.
the push back is defo because of SWTOR the reason being in not that its competition for diablo but its competition for WoW so i recon blizzard is trying to keep as much attention on wow as possible to counter SWTOR also the new deathwing raid was announced. this just proves it for me there making sure they can focus on one game at a time and that means diablo players are getting screwed
Break out the tinfoil hats, boys and girls. It's gonna be one of those days!

I guess you don't know yet that Blizzard has one team working on each franchise, which means that the Diablo franchise team will not work on the Warcraft franchise.

Blizzard are trying to make money, shocking! Lets rant about "the man keeping us down" in our hemp jumpers around the campfire tonight in the old commune.
Blizzards strategy will be to release D3 when they believe many people should be getting sick of Star Wars. This will get people to buy Diablo and maybe stop paying a monthly fee for Star Wars. Then when they are bored with Diablo maybe they will go back to Wow instead of Star Wars.
Its a sound idea but in the end it depends on the merits of the games involved, and most importantly, their lasting power. Getting mad about a corporation trying to screw another corporation is like getting mad at the laws of physics.
