did you say this because you know those teachers or you feel the need to defend your wife?
anyway, sorry. I might have been too harsh with the word idiots. when I was at school things weren't like that. when kids did bad things they got what they deserved at most teachers. ofc there were those teachers that let kids do anything and I'm talking about them. because of them things like this happen. they maybe don't feel the need to interfere and don't care or are unable to because of the TEACHER's attitude towards kids.
you are right about harassment but I'm not talking about the law, just common sense.
I DO know a lot of teachers. I have an aunt and an uncle who are both teachers (kindergarten and 3rd grade respectively), and my wife's aunt is a preschool teacher. Either way, thanks for the apology.
While it's true that there are teachers and principals out there who don't do enough to solve the bully problem, it's unethical to blame them entirely. In an education system as horribly strict as our current one, who can point the finger at a teacher who has to make the choice between stepping in and stopping a fight and possibly losing their job?
In my county there's a committee trying to pass legislation to shield teachers who stop fights from lawsuits. It's a step in the right direction, but isn't it a bit ridiculous to have to fight for this kind of protection?
Overall I think if the teachers didn't have so many lawsuit opportunities staring them in the face they'd be much more willing to step in and help out a kid who's being bullied.
right on. teacher today are all idiots and don't want to do anything with it. and some students even attack teachers. today's regulations are terrible if there are any. all momma's boys can do whatever they want now and it sucks.
I know a lot of teachers, and none of them are idiots. Perhaps the true idiot is the one who insults a group of people without reservations yet doesn't bother to use decent spelling and grammar.
The teachers aren't at fault. The system is at fault. In today's schools if a teacher so much as taps a child's shoulder it's either battery or sexual harassment. If a teacher holds two fighting students apart they can be accused of inflicting the bruises. It's not that the teachers are "idiots", it's that there are legal ramifications if they interfere with the students.
I fear for my wife who is finishing up her Early Childhood Education degree.
EDIT: I also agree with everything Freak_of_Nature said, with the exception of his P.S. The general board exists for discussion of all topics, regardless of whether or not they have winfrey-esque themes.
