My feelings about the game? The first one still takes the cake, but thats because it was the first one. Seriously, when compared then i think Halo 3 is fantastic, why do i think that? Well because it manages to find that perfect point between innovating and staying true to what Halo is. Thats probably the biggest reason why i praise Halo 3 so much.
More specifically i feel that the weapons are really balanced, same with the vehicles. Not one of em stands really above the rest apart from the tank (tank beats ghost, tank beats hunter, tank beats everything!!!) wich is still better balanced then the previous tank (mainly not being able to use machine gun when driving the tank, big plus).
On first sight the campaign looks to be short, but seriously its probably the biggest campaign out of the three, now if you add in some fun mutators and some good difficulty then i would be surprised if you are able to beat the campaign in less then 10 hours. Add in co-op and i will be going back to campaign again and again and again (Also to get those 15000 point requirements for the achievements, wich are pretty insane to get sometimes).
I also feel that i get enough backstory, a fast runthrough makes you lose a lot detail but if you are focussed then you can get a lot out of forexample the parts where cortana or gravemind talk to you, search a bit and you find bits and parts in the terminals. I was also happy to see the ending being in true Halostyle, for me its refreshing to not deal with dull bosses at the end of every freaking game. Atmosphere is perfect and you get to see the biggest variety of locations wich i love, leveldesign is a big step forward, no more copy and paste feelings. Music, what can i say, amazing, same for the overall sound effects. Game is beautyfull to look at.
Then you have multiplayer with the vast editing options.
Theatermode wich is fun and can be even usefull (to bad you can't edit campaign clips though)
Forge is fun but could'v been better, for example the limited amount of each item that can be placed bugs me a bit.
All together Halo 3 is worth the money, and that says a lot these days.
