I know this DIII has, clearly, turned into a flame wars but I just wanted to say that the petition was a good idea and that if blizzard does make changes, it wont affect the release date by that much. So before the rest of the web sees us as 10 year olds I suggest everyone refrains from flaming.

I just watched the Gamespot video (lore/art discussion) and I noticed that everything the petition highlights as a problem is listed by Blizzard as an important bullet point as to why the game looks the way it does. There is no way they are going to change anything because of a petition, whether you get five-thousand or five million signatures.

I think there is little chance that the petition does anything but I wont hive up hope, Diablo is a great game series and having it ruined only to attract a WoW clientelle is a shameless plug.

wrong, their goal is to launch a successful title and get more people into gaming and having fun and enjoying themselves when they are playing the game. <that should be the goal for any gaming company.

Wrong, the goal of any gaming company is money... what where you thinking...

Space for what? They can have the game in production for 10 more years if that's what it takes to make Diablo 3.
Again space... space like DVD space. Memory? More expensive to produce?

The gameplay seems fine. Without it it's not Diablo. Game lenght has always been both Blizzard and Diablo's strong side. So?
They can take as much time as they need to make Diablo 3 as it should be. A certain visual masterpiece- one of the elements that WERE there a bit, but lacked on a different level. Eye-candy wise. Again the same mistake and even more so defined by curent standards, now along with the complete removal of atmosphere. If they could have ruined it it would look as it does now.

Think about it- their point is to make money, yes? Which will bring them more money?
    1) a good game? 100 million sold units
    or
2)a great game? 200 million sold units(which with current developments isn't going to be)

Gameplay and Game Lenght have been blizzards strong side because they used dated software. It lets them sacrifice graphics for gameplay. This is where it gets rough, the more a game in demanding the more space it takes on a dvd, and you can only have so many dvd's before your game is not profitable anymore. Beleave me when I say that graphics are like a vampire on disk space, they jump on that dvd and suck the space right out of it.

Even so, there is no way I will stand by and let blizzard get away with a replica of WoW. This does not mean making better graphics, it means changing the textures. The revamped images on the first page, you can chnage those textures, ALL OF THEM, within a week time... a full game textures can be changed in a month or 2.

Game length is not an excuse for cartoony, blocky graphics.

Maby you misunderstood, because I will not even buy the game if it looks like WoW and has rainbows. But if they make the game look like Assassins Cree or something, the gameplay value and lenght will suffer. They just have to fix the theme so we dont find ponies, hart shaped flowers and shaman trolls in the game.

Blizzard is known for making games that can run on low system requirements. Every game company, or most of them, will try to fill up all the memory available for the game. The Higher the system requirements the less space a game will have for other things like LENGHT and GAMEPLAY. As much as I urge blizzard to change the graphic theme to what it was in DII, I would never ask them to upgrade those shaders and bloom at the price of gameplay or game length.

Interesting, thanks. What about polygon count? Is that easy to change as well?

No, that would be a pain in the ass. They would need a couple of more years to redo the game with more of those, its like starting from scratch. Unless they only intend to make minor changes. Though redoing the main character/bosses/spells should take less time. There is really no point in redoing those, the video cards of today and the rendering softwares we have can make a block look like a sphere without adding polygons, I would not bother with those.

Is there anybody here with some graphics development background/knowledge that can tell me what blizzard could possibly change at this point considering Diablo 3's stage of development?

To put it simply, every character, object or land is made out of polygons that create an object. when you unfold that object you can apply various textures to the combined poligones that make it, in this case grass, earth, stone and more. In games like diable, the character and BG are kept to the lowest amount of polygons to maximize gameplay and performance capabilities. Retouching a textures should be fast, within a month, they could make a fully finished game look like something else.

    Lol?

I meant to say that I hate the fact that every character apparently is able to illuminate himself. Why do people like that? It just doesn't make sense to me.

That is called self illumination, the more you have it the faster your computer can render the game. Of course, blizzard does not use it fully it is a mere technical question. The way light hits characters is the lest my worries for DIII

It's not warcraft-like. It's fantasy & Gothic themed. Both games are in the same time period (medieval). So they will have some of the same architectures (dungeons, castles, rustic villages, gargoyles, etc.)

So was DII, DI, Warhammer Fantasy, Medieval TW, Lord of the rings, Age of Conan and so on. Still, somehow, I don't remeber WoW being an influential part in their development.

Now, on the graphical look. If they came out with a 2-D interface they would be crucified for it. I can already hear it... "it's too dated... too old... so 90's."

I agree on that one, 2D, as much as I like it, is dead, 3D can do just as good, their 3D models and environment are plenty fine, they just need to make it themed right both in colors and in architectural stile. Happy statues don't really give it credit and neither do rainbows.

I have a question, can't you just turn down the contrast in game like in D2?

Hopefully you can, though at this tine I doubt there is such info.
