Unlike diablo 1.There's no cannon hero for diablo 2.
The cannon hero is described has a grp of adventured and not only 1.
It's also said that most of them become mad after diablo 2..Because of the horror they faced.
I think it's was baal plan from the start . I mean diablo , Andariel , Duriel and Mephisto was killed by a powerful mortal (plus add 100,000 minion and other powerful monster).
We also know that the prime evil are able to foresee some important thing.Like Diablo was able to foresee that Marius had a little but important role.
Diablo he's the most powerful of the prime evil .Despise that Baal was stronger in the campaign because he was the last boss.In diablo 1 , it's started that the strongest of the brothers is DIABLO(The game would not be named diablo otherwise) So Baal knowing this.How could he even think that he could defeat such such a powerful mortal?
My guess is . Yes he planified everything .. His death .. Tyrael destroying the worldstone .We don't know either what happenned to his soulstone.Probably worthless because of the corrupted WS.THus probably he was only sent back to hell and respawned his brothers. with some artifact. That 20 years later.Might be a reason for that.
Remember they are PRIME EVIl. They been around for millions of years.It's also a fact that these Powerful demon don't underestimate anyone.Diablo did not underestimate the HERO of diablo 1. Diablo did not dismiss Marius . Baal certainly did not dismiss the fact that the murderer of his brother was tracking him.Hell .. Baal even avoided to battle the ancient Barbarian . Prime evil are powerful.But they aren't dumb.
