Jul 29, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo 3 Boss Damage StatesAwesome ideas, I'm glad to hear they're pursuing such avenues to make the game play more interesting on boss fights. I think it'd be pretty sweet if at some point the boss in the game play video lost an arm or a leg or a jaw, how cool would that be for a surprise during the fight?Posted in: News

Jul 22, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Blizzard Comments On The Classes In Diablo 3Personally I think that necros will play a big part in the story (I remembe reading about those tree monsters and how it was a bi-product of the necromancer magic) just not as playable characters. As the druid goes, I doubt they'll make an immediate arrival, possibly in a later expansion (Partially due to a bias, I liked the druids but I think some other classes will make an appearance first). Glass Cannon Caster all the way for the next announced class in my book :-).Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo III vs Hellgate: LondonHonestly I really didn't have super high hopes for Hgl, I've been playing it for several weeks and I can pretty much agree with the writer on every point. The dialogue makes me want to kill someone all the time, the levels are the same thing over and over, the monsters don't vary at all (Just recycle at higher levels) the screens for skills and what not are cumbersome and slow, the list goes on. I have very high hopes for Diablo III, and after playing hellgate london, I must say. . . . I really have great appreciation for the art direction blizzard has taken now (Color really is your friend after playing HGL for more than 2-3 hours).Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Bashiok Answers Gameplay Video ConcernsI'm glad Bashiok gave us that information, that's awesome :). I do find it rather odd that someone can go for hours slaying monsters and demons but be sensitive to hurting the poor bunnies. . .Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo 3 Items and InventoryIn a logical sense, yes it would make more sense that items of larger size would take up more inventory space. No, it does not make logical sense that someone could fit an item like a halberd in a back pack. . . At all. Making the game less convenient for the sake of some sense of realism is a bit odd to me. The new inventory/bag setup will make it where you can carry more items, meaning less town trips, meaning more gold per trip that can be earned. Everything about the new system is pro pro pro. The only con to it is people arguing that it's too wow like or it's unrealistic. Hey, if I wanted it to be realistic, I'd go play a video game where I'm not gunning down hordes of demons with fireballs. I want the game to be fun and with as little down time as possible. All this fear mongering about it being like wow is just ridiculous.Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo III Trade and EconomyI don't think it's going to turn into world of diablo just like that. I rather doubt they're adding professions or any other such nonsense into Diablo 3. As I said before, I think auction houses can make the whole thing run smoother for people that are new to the game. Bartering system, or gold standard, either way I'm not sweating it. I got along just fine in the trading world of Diablo II, the simplification systems are for everyone else that either didn't or won't in the future.Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo 3 Not An MMOPosted in: NewsQuote from "Jordan_L" »Flagship started this whole Hack N Slash MMO " genre " in order to charge a monthly fee for their Hack N Slash Hellgate:London and never really lived up to it. I think the whole idea is quite stupid, and it proved disastrous for them. To the poster above, when you say the minimum cap is 6 do you mean when hosting a server ? I think Blizzard is going to take the route where players host the server, so the minimum would be at 1, and the cap would be at 8 if they make it that high.
Yeah, basically what I mean is that the system will be like it was in Diablo II. Players will host games, and the maximum number of players that can join will be somewhere around 5-7 people (Since you'll be the 6-8 person total). Minimum will always be 1 I should think lol. Aside from that I agree with ya on Hellgate, it did prove pretty disastrous. -
Jul 21, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo III Trade and EconomyYou're more than entitled to your opinions, however, posting the reasoning behind your opinions is helpful in designing because it also allows you room for comprimise. If I say hey I like the old system, and this guy says hey I like the new system, which do you go by? If you understand the how and the why behind both of them you're better able to suit the over all needs of both.Posted in: News

Jul 20, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo III Trade and EconomyWorld of warcraft had bidding, and it had a far more stable economy than any od the diablo games. I don't recall you listing any examples to the "Auction houses = failure" argument. I brought up auction houses because they SIMPLIFY trading, not complicate them. You can't have it both ways, if you say that diablo was a simplification, then you can't say auction houses would be a bad thing because by their design they make things more user friendly. If you say they had an advanced system, then you can certainly argue against it, however, you're also pointing out that you'd prefer it be harder for the masses to use (Something Blizzard simply isn't going to go for). Instead of debating about the grand merrits of the old games, or the terrible tragedies of auction housing, would it not be better to post what you think would improve the system?Posted in: News

Jul 20, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Blizzard: Why Corpses VanishIt seems to me that the developers are set on making the corpses disolve in order to fix lag issues. Calculations on things they are probably looking at as unecessary would seem a bit odd. Blizzard has always made games that are widely available to everyone, not just the upper high end computer class, and I rather doubt that will change any time soon. The idea of creating skills based on corpses is fine and dandy but largely inconvenient (Didn't care for that aspect though Necromancer was my first D2 character.) I am under the impression that the necromancer will be completely replaced by the Witch Doctor (as their skills are mirrors for the most part), and they want each remaining class to be unique. Problem solved, bodies aren't really needed, except to say that some people just love to see carnage on the ground. Solution to further implement. . . Create dead bodies that cannot be interacted with that are part of the back ground (As many of the old diablo games had) or something similar with the bodies that you create (Though highly doubtful). Those are my thoughts on it .Posted in: News

Jul 20, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo III Trade and EconomyAuction houses are simply tools for making the system run smoother, whether you set them up for gold based or item based trading, it eilliminates having to read through spam text and channel after channel, hoping the guy that has the item you want is actually online posting. Aside from that, The forum is in regards to Diablo III trading not Diablo II.Posted in: News
In further question, how is it random? Trade Economics for RPG's playable online would seem a rather common place for an idea such as an auction house. . . . If you have issues with auction houses, state the reason. -
Jul 19, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo III Trade and Economy8 pages later of reading. . . lol.Posted in: News
1.) The amount of gold dropped by mobs should be compartively reduced from Diablo II (Causes the value to go up, simple economics).
2.) The trade system should be updated as new technology has come into the market (No sense sticking with old system just because of hardcore sensibilities, nostalgia, or descrimination against other gaming systems.) Bartering system, and Auction Housing are both viable options in my book.
3.) All gold eventually has to be destroyed by the game in some way, as it is created by the game in some way. That being said, there are several ways to accomplish said fact: Repair Bills, Arrow/bolt costs, Item purchase Costs, Gambling costs, and also, adding other money pits AKA Socketing, Upgrading, etc. All that being said, I feel the system can drop some of the rather annoying ones that can cause breaks in game play (Repairing, arrow bills etc.) Leaving you with Direct costs of items from vendors (Powerful items were rare to find in Diablo II shops but were present, and make gambling viable for getting great items as well (Also great at reducing over all gold floating around in the system.)
4. The game was fun with no BOP's/BOE's (Bind on pick up/Bind on Equip). If they are to be implemented, do it in balance: BOP's should only apply to quest items, BOE's should only apply to extremely rare and unique items (If at all).
5. Insure that all botting/Duping/ and otherwise economy destroyers are blocked as best as humanly possible, I think the rest will work itself out.
Lastly as a side note on topic, those that loved the bartering system strictly and loved the fact that you could get ripped off and prefer it that way, I'd have to say your only motivation for thinking that would be if you were the one scamming people. The game designer's job is to appeal to as many people as possible, not the ones that think of clever ways to rip people off instead of earning their own keep. I don't think gold should be the way to get the very best items of all necessarily, but I think it should serve to get you most everything else. -
Jul 19, 2008EtheriChaos posted a message on Diablo 3 Not An MMOMy thoughts on user cap is no less than 6 but no more than 8. Anywhere in that range seems to be plausible, for those that have more than 5 friends, 8 would be a safer number I would think. Aside from that, you don't want your game robbed of mobs, Level restriction and User cap personalization on the game *I while hosting, set mod to 4 players only (As I have 3 buddies online) and level cap to 18 (None of my friends are higher than level 18). This seems to be a logical way to solve many of the issues on an immediate basis.Posted in: News
