lol they have the player cap at 8 in D2 with 7 classes and 99% of games not every class will be playing (that's actually pretty rare).
As it is, it's not action rpg if you make the games bigger. Simple as that.

Well I didn't realise what was in your message till I quoted you, but to be honest I think the reason is that the game is very simple, quite repetitive, but not in a way that makes you think so due to the random nature of item drops and monster spawns and randomisation of dungeons.
I mean, take the quest system and difficulty system for example, the first time you play the game you play it, then you get nightmare, which is same thing except harder, then hell. Then, you have 7 different character classes, all completely unique, which you will want to play, then, getting lvl 99 is so ridiculously time consuming (for example it will take you roughly 800 Hell baal runs to lvl from lvl 95 to 96) that you never feel that you 'completed' your character. Then, you can always try to play the same character in a different way (A cold or lightning sorc is the most obvious example). Then, the search for better items and gear is always there. The randomness of the dungeons means that each time you enter them it's different thus you feel as if it's a totally new playing experience every different class and every different difficulty level.
Then, the game operates on short-term based rewards. You can always say "I'm going to keep playing this session till I get deckard cain or I finish act 2 or I get that p shako helm."
You set long term goals as far as character development goes (so your skill progression and skill trees and abilities) and gear (will it be an mf character, a pvp or pvm, thus what gear will it need to be awesomesauce) and you set short term goals that are relatively easily completed "I'm going to do pindleskin and mephisto magic find runs for a few hours in the hope of getting good items or I'm going to complete this quest and get Deckard Cain"
Now, all of this doesn't mean that the game isn't fun, but that's the way it works and one or a combination of or all of these things are probably what makes it fun for you and makes you come back to it.Give me your p shako helm

Just wondering if this has any basis in fact and I can't find it anywhere else online.
Also, proof would be very helpful in swaying me, I hate internet rumours!
