Awesome. Can you view dead HC characters in the career pane? Do dead HC characters take up character slots per account?

Making games is tough enough without having to live up to everyone's personal expectations. I don't think anyone is claiming it's the best game ever. But a lot of people, including myself, are enjoying the beta and are eagerly awaiting retail release.

I can imagine swapping skills out for certain bosses / areas, but not constantly between individual fights. I think giving players the ability to do this can only be a good thing, though.

Anyone else getting instantly outbid when making bids on loot? I bid on items that I've been outbid on, and it just stacks the price up again after being outbid nearly instantly.

    Quote from okrane

    Are you for real?
Nobody is complaining about the revolutionary stuff: everyone liked the idea of runes for example - a unique concept.
What people are complaining about, in a nutshell is :

    - dumbing the game down - catering to idiots and retarded kids all over
    - incentivizing and building the game around their AH
    - turning the game into a console whack-a-mole game by removing character planning and building from the game.
    • Making the game more accessible is not a bad thing. It's an element of design.
    • How is the game built around the AH. You're not even told the AH exists unless you discover it on your own.
    • Same dumb argument as ever. You don't think there's some critical thinking going on when you decide which skills and loot to equip? Diablo 3 is not a character sheet simulator. I hope you had the same argument for Diablo 2, because stat distribution was pretty much VIT VIT VIT errday. Diablo 3 is an action RPG. You click things until they die and level up and be awesome.

Have you played the beta? It's pretty fun, and the new approach to abilities hasn't turned me off from playing it over and over again.

posted a message on obsession with being unique
I don't understand the amorphous hate against accessibility. If you don't like Diablo 3, then that's fair and fine and you should just say that. But don't start claiming that Diablo 3 was taken in the wrong direction. Systems that Blizzard thought didn't add value to the game were removed or overhauled (skill trees, stat management), and new systems were put in that they think add value (runes, resource management, artisans). But the core gameplay is still there. I'm pretty convinced anyone who thinks Diablo 3 was "dumbed down" to the point it took away from the fun of the game is just generally upset with the game and unable to articulate why.

I have big issues with the game, like the melodramatic dialog (King Leoric is almost evil enough to be comical) and the potential for Diablo 3 to turn into a pay 2 win auction house fest. But the streamlining of core features? How is that conceivably a negative?

Either you didn't play Diablo I and II or you are trying to troll, sorry.

Just do the math and you will easily see why DII had superior customization compared to DIII.

Although I'd love to see the math for this claim, it wouldn't make much of an argument to say one game is superior because the decision tree is larger. Diablo 3's emphasis on a smaller set of more well defined abilities that scale automatically with your progression makes more builds viable in later difficulties.

Diablo 2 had a lot of great things about it, but uniqueness between characters of the same class is not one of those things.

Hey, I've heard that Skeleton King only drops yellows on your first play through. Is that true?

I think it's a guaranteed one yellow drop on the first play through.

I have about 95dps on my Barb with Battle Rage. Found an awesome +3-4 damage amulet yesterday.

posted a message on Diablo III Beta Impressions
I wouldn't confuse good design with hand holding. A basic principle of design is simplicity, and Diablo 3 shines in that respect. The elimination of the character sheet screen was a bit jarring, but in practice, the new home for stats is easier to use.

It think it was a bad move not to include at least one rune in the closed beta. Looking at the skills screen can make your options look pretty limited even at later levels, but I think runes will more than make up for that. The focus on a few identifiable skills is a bonus when there's a good selection of runes. But I understand that's not the goal of the closed beta.

The beta has me thoroughly impressed, despite. I find myself coming back to the same old dungeon over and over again with a few buddies.
