Color Solution for windows 7 compatibility issue in Diablo & Hellfire!

As SpiritusSanctus7 pointed out, changing you're background to solid black, reducing the screen resolution (right click on you're desktop and choose "screen resolution" to access) all the way down (I used 800x600) and right clicking on the (Computer//Local Disk(D:)//Program Files (86x)//Diablo) diablo.exe (I also did this to BNUpdate & VidSize) selecting properties, then going under the compatibility tab & checking the last 3 boxes (Disable visual themes, Disable desktop composition & Disable display scaling on high DPI settings) does work if you are trying to get rid of the coloring problem for Diablo created by Windows7. Also, do not forget to check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" then select from the drop down box "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". Lastly you are going to want to check the box at the bottom under the heading "Privilege Level" putting a check in the box marked "Run this program as an administrator".

I wanted to add this: If you wish to play Hellfire and you are having the same coloring issue like I was, I found a solution. First, you are going to want to use a black background and lowest resolution setting you can, again. :) Next, go under you're C drive (Computer=>Local Disk(C:)=>SIERRA=>HELLFIRE then right click on the hellfire.exe icon, select properties, choose the Compatibility tab & once again run this in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and run as administrator. However, instead of choosing the last 3 boxes (as you did previously) you now want to choose the first 3 & the last one (Run in 256 colors, Run in 640x 480 screen resolution, Disable visual themes and Disable scaling on high DPI settings) so, the only thing that should NOT be checked is "Disable desktop composition". After I played around with this program for a long time, I finally found a setting that was able to work correctly! I hope this spares you of the time and headaches it cost me. Happy hunting all :D

So, anybody know how to fix it so that I can run Diablo 1 without having to turn off "explorer.exe"?

As it is now, none of the compatibility options work for it, some make it not run at all(doesn't think the cd is in). Only option to get rid of graphical issues now is to turn off explorer.exe, which isn't really bad, but more of a moderate annoyance.

To be able to run diablo one, on windows 7 one must set desktop background, to solid black only, and for diablo exe right click, and set run as admin, and run in xp sp3, and check the last three boxs also right click on desktop and choose screen res and minimize it than run diablo! Hope this helps every1 cheers
