    Purpose of Monster Power
Grimiku gave details today on what the developers think Monster Power is really about. The challenge! If that's not what you think then please share your views in the comments below.

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Different players have different play styles, though, so we added 10 power settings so you could decide what challenge level is best for you. For some, MP5 might be best. For others, MP1 or MP2 feels right. If you’ve got a lot of supporting gear, maybe MP7 or MP8 is your so-called “sweet spot.”

What we didn’t want to do, however, is make players feel like they absolutely needed to play at the higher MP levels in order to get the best rewards. This is one of reasons that we didn’t add in Achievements for Monster Power, too. We wanted the primary motivation to be the challenge and finding a level that you enjoy. I gather from your post that you feel the bonuses given for challenging yourself aren’t really worth the effort, but my question is what would you change about it? (Keeping in mind that we don’t want to force players into the higher MP levels.)

    MP10 Purist
There have been quite a few purists that like to challenge themselves with playing only on Monster Power 10. Make sure to check this topic on the EU forums for their progress and maybe even right your name down as well and show the world what you're made of. Meanwhile this is what Nakatoir has managed to accomplish himself.

Progress generally occurs slowly and I try to out-level everything, but the elite packs usually manage to whittle my health down and I die on either them or the following pack. This is because I also do not allow myself to use health globes. I know, slightly cruel to my hero, but I do love a challenge! >.<

Definitely going to keep on trucking, my next attempt will be on a Wizard... maybe he'll have more luck than a Witch Doctor.

    Listen to the Community!
I think this thread has been an interesting read so far, and although I don't really have much to say about the things posted here, I would like to comment on the following:

    Listen to the community
We are listening! We may not be very visible at times, but I can promise you that we are not ignoring you.

We spend a lot of time every day reading threads. We constantly gather player feedback, opinions, concerns, ideas, etc. that we forward to the the Diablo III developers.

The developers are very interested to hear what you guys have to say, and although the development of Diablo III is not a democracy, your feedback does influence their work.

I believe the CMs are listening, the devs just are not doing anything about it :)
I totally get how frustrating it can be to hunger for new information, and I also know how easy it can be to jump to conclusions when being in that state of mind., but I can assure you that the developers are working hard to make Diablo III a better game... there are many things in the works for future updates, and we will share more detailed information on these things when we are ready to talk about them :-) (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

    Magic Find on Followers
I recently geared my follower for Magic Find since it was not only what I was looking for, but also the easiest to gear up.

Sometimes it’s not just identifying the role you want your follower to fulfill, but also remembering that the measurement of their success will be proportionate to the quality of gear you can give them. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

    Lylirra on Various Things
Lylirra continued her explanations from yesterday on how Community Managers are indeed also gamers and play Diablo 3 excessively. She also gives some details on various topics.

There are a myriad of other responsibilities, too, but those are the big ones.

Whether or not we're "noobs" in your mind is irrelevant to our ability to perform our jobs well.

1- How come defeating KEYWARDEN in INFERNO Lvl 60 above with 5 stack nephalem yet no drop key item? Been many rounds on respective location but nothing was given.
What Monster Power level are you playing on, out of curiosity? At No Monster Power, both the keys and the demonic organs have a 5% chance to drop. At MP1, that chance goes up to 10%, and then it will increase by another 10% for each additional MP level.

We're unaware of any bugs with key/organ drops (we've been keeping a close eye on that), and if you take a look at these forums players are seeing key drops all the time. It's possible it's just a streak of bad luck, you know?

In fact, I've been having similar problems with the Act II keywarden myself; he's being a big jerk and won't deliver. /shakes fist

2- Everybody Loves SHen - "Victory" with unachievable even been through many times defeating Diablo. I constant chat with him to ensure the achievement are in sequence and according...yet nothing. WHY?
    It's a bug. :(

For example , do you really feel the wrath of Reflect Damage?
I don't personally have a problem with the affix. It's not my favorite, but I've learned how to deal with those Elite packs and I've got gear that supports it.

My personal experiences don't represent all players, though. And that's a very important realization when it comes to being a community manager. While knowledge and awareness of the game is critical (since it provides context to the feedback we're seeing), we can't let our own opinions bias what we pass on to the development team. We can politely disagree, of course, but we keep that to ourselves. :)

Our goal is to pass along information to the developers that will allow them to make informed decisions -- ones that they feel will benefit the long-term health of the game -- not further our own personal agendas as players of Diablo III.

(That said, I think the changes we're considering to Reflects Damage are super interesting, and I'd love to see how they might be implemented.)

I simply want to point out that CMs need to play the game extensively to be an effective advocate for players.
We do. Quite a bit. We even make sure that we play together weekly during scheduled sessions. We may not all be Paragon 100 or have 80k+ Elite kills to each of our characters' names, but we're still experienced gamers and go out of our way to contextualize the feedback we see on a day-to-day basis.

As for your example, that was information provided directly from the developers, not something based in personal opinion.

The first thing he says completly ruins his point of it not being as big a deal as people are making it out to be.
No. I'm saying that just because my personal experience has been different doesn't mean that feedback regarding the difficulty of Reflects Damage is any less valid. Please read the whole post and try to understand its context. =/

    Ban Wave For Hackers
Blizzard has brought a new ban wave dealing specifically with hackers and exploiters.

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

In each of these cases players used a hack program for exploitive purposes, for example to zoom out their game view and kill monsters that were beyond the normal range at which AI is triggered. As we do with all Blizzard games, we will continue to monitor Diablo III for cheating and take action as needed.

As a reminder, we don't permit the use of hacks or other third-party software in conjunction with Diablo III. Most of the programs out there that are intended for use with the game are actually cheat programs and automation programs ("bots") that exploit Diablo III's mechanics and provide players with an unfair advantage. However, "third-party software" also refers to any file or program that attempts to:
    • Obtain information about Diablo III that's not normally available to the player
    • Transmit or modify the Diablo III game files
    • Provide access to features or abilities beyond what is allowed by the game's design
    • Change how Diablo III interacts with Battle.net
In addition to undermining the spirit of fair play, this type of software can cause nasty technical problems, game-related bugs, and stability and performance issues with Battle.net. All of which can put a demon-sized damper on your gaming experience.

As we've said in the past, playing Diablo III legitimately means playing with an unaltered game client. We strongly recommend that you avoid using any third-party software which interacts with Diablo III—even if you are accessing that software from a reputable third-party site—as doing so can result in permanent ban from the game.

For more information on all of this, you can check out a copy of the related policy for Diablo III over on our Customer Support site.

Quite a number of you have already chimed-in with your thoughts, but we wanted to open up the question to the community to find out a little more about the affixes you envy. Maybe you want to be Nightmarish, so that creatures brave enough to attack you might sometimes question their resolve and flee in terror. Maybe you want to pull surrounding enemies close to you with the Vortex affix. Or maybe you just want to see what it’s like to Teleport at will or block an enemy's escape with the Waller affix.

Leave a comment below to tell us what combination you'd choose, or simply hop into the thread itself! You can find a full list of Diablo III monster affixes here -- but choose carefully, because the affixes fall into various categories and have certain restrictions placed upon them, so they cannot be chosen indiscriminately.

    Does Anyone Still Farm Whimshire?
Some players seem to have abandoned Whimshire as a farming spot. Not Lylirra though. She does remind of course, that the place exists mainly for fun.

As for super serious farming? Nah, not really. It's definitely not my preferred spot, but it wasn't really designed to be that. It's a fun addition to the game, for sure, but not necessarily a core part of it. :)

Cause honestly only a Female could truly love Whimsyshire.
I'll see your totally facetious bandwagon statement and raise you one of my own:

    Real men farm Whimsyshire.

    Yeah. I went there. (Snap.)

The lead content designer for Diablo III also just stopped by my desk on his way to another meeting and told me to say that Whimsyshire is "the best place to farm happiness." Now, whether that means it's where you go to find happiness or simply slaughter all that represents happiness, I don't know. He left before I could clarify. :(

But hey, that's me (and just about every other masculine guy out there.)
All joking aside, that's completely fine. It's certainly doesn't have to be your favorite place in the world. It's a novelty level, and one that's completely optional at that.

really? cause for like 100k gold you can super gear out a new toon on the AH
    /shrug
Personal preference, but I enjoy farming for gear whenever I can. It might take a bit longer, and I may not have a set that's perfectly min/maxed, but I like the feeling of wearing items that I've discovered myself.

Although...if it's not too much trouble for your Devs...could they design a Pony Queen? Or maybe a giant Monstrous Teddy Bear that's covered in blood or some such other gory things, maybe have entrails around its feet and arms that end in spiked, club-like hands that squeak whenever it hits you?
Haha, that's certainly feedback I can pass on. :)

I use the gold auction house with my main, but my alts use nothing except self-found items. And all the gold I get goes to my main who is Paragon 16 for now.

We do not get special items or treatment as employees, and with that in mind I would say my gear is pretty average. My main character rarely sells items on the gold auction house, so most items are bought on a small budget. The most expensive item on my purchase history only went for 2 million gold and is a 914 DPS ceremonial knife. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Players in Party Bringing 3 Infernal Machines Each
I'm guessing it's for a number of reasons. One, every one is contributing to the run equally (at least in terms of materials). And two, the more portals you have, the more chances you get at demonic organ pieces.

As for why 3 machines and not some other number? That's probably because you can only open 3 portals max per game. While the portals are random, you can't actually be sent to the same Realm of Pure Evil twice in a single session. So, it probably just makes everything more efficient. Player A uses their machines in one game, then player B uses their in next, etc etc. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

    Spam Bots
The best thing you can do whenever you receive these kinds messages is to report the senders via the right-click > Report Spam or Report Harassment option. Don't click on any links that the message may refer you to, though, as they may contain malware like Trojans and keyloggers. You'll want to avoid sharing the links publicly, since that could put other players' accounts at risk, too.

If you want to learn a bit more about phishing attempts and how to help safeguard yourself against them, there's lot of great information on our security website: http://us.battle.net/en/security/theft

rather than always just tell their customers to do something reactive.
Because you have that power, and it's something you can choose to exercise if you want. It's a reactive option, sure, but it's an option that's available to you nonetheless.

i mean, how come someone can even have "Blizzard" as a part of a bnet name? i don't get it.
We actually do a lot of work behind the scenes that simply isn't visible to our players. For example, "Blizzard" is a restricted name for BattleTags -- as are several variant spellings -- and has been for a very long time. It's very likely that the player in question (the one mentioned in the OP) was actually spelling their name "B-I-i-z-z-a-r-d," with a capital I. That variant wasn't restricted previously, but it's now been added to the appropriate list.

Even though we are consistently trying to remove their influence from the game, the individuals who want to advertise in Diablo III are very persistent and excel at coming up with new ways of getting around the roadblocks we put up. So, it's a constant battle, but one that we're willing to fight. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

    • Diablo 3 has sold over 10 million copies in North America and Europe
    • World of Warcraft still has over 10 million active subscribers
    • StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has sold over 6 million copies to date
    • StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is scheduled to be released sometime in 2013
    • Blizzard are also working on their DotA project, but have no news to share

    Wizard With 3.3 Million DPS
After the 2.6 Million Barbarian and 3.1 Million Demon Hunter, forum member AudiR8GT reached 3.3 million DPS on his Wizard and created a topic on our forums to give feedback in. Be sure to check the topic and ask any questions. Below you can see his Battle.net profile.

    Does Blizzard Care About Feedback?
A member on the official forums created a topic where he implies Blizzard don't really care all that much about player feedback. That's not entirely true according to Vaelflare though.

We do care, and feedback from the forums has absolutely influenced the direction of Diablo III.

The thing is, we as community managers don’t make the calls on what should and shouldn’t be implemented or changed in Diablo III. That’s not our job. So it’s true that you’ll never see us saying we’re tasking the development team for anything, because we don’t make those sorts of decisions for them.

What we DO do, however, is to keep in touch with the development team and relay important discussions and trends that we see in the forums on to them. Similarly, we often work with our developers so that they can relay information to us about what’s going on behind the scenes with Diablo III, and help us to answer your questions. This community is certainly full of ideas and competing points of view, and they are all extremely valuable to us. Your discussions often provide insight into concerns and ideas that may or may not have been prominent on our radar, and our job as community representatives is make sure the developers are aware of what you think.

At the end of the day, it’s up for the developers to determine what decisions are made for Diablo III. Those decisions can be influenced by the community at-large, and we genuinely appreciate that so many of you take the time to leave us constructive feedback, regardless of whether or not it is directly incorporated into Diablo III.

props to vaeflare for relaying all our feedback
you must have the patience of a saint to filter through the countless garbage threads
Thanks for the kind words. :) I try to be as candid and unbiased with the feedback I gather and pass along as much as I can. While I sometimes raise an eyebrow at some of the threads and posts that are scattered about the Diablo III forums, I know that for the vast majority of players, the reason they’re posting here is because they’re passionate about the game. When you realize that players are posting because they’re passionate, it’s a lot easier to see eye-to-eye with people and treat them with respect, even if you might politely disagree with their opinions.

Poll: What Monster Power Level Do You Prefer?
Blizzard has published a poll asking the community which MP level do they prefer. You can go and vote on the US Battle.net forum by clicking here.

    Change in Drop Rate?
I noted a marked decrease in drop rates this weekend. I have lectured extensively on statistics and understand RNG but something changed this weekend (over 20 hours of play). Did anyone else notice this or is it just me?
I posted in a similar thread recently, and I’d highly suggest you check it out, because it goes into the nature of probabilities and how Magic Find works in Diablo III.

What you are experiencing is simply a result of RNG. The drop rates of items were not decreased. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

    Item Locking
Diablo III is a pretty straightforward hack-and-slash with a pretty straightforward supporting UI. Ideally, we want to keep the UI and its widgets as minimal as possible, so we approach additions to it carefully and with a lot of consideration.

Like I said in a previous post in this thread, the reason I asked questions wasn't to debate an idea, but to get very focused feedback on what the value of something like an item lock would actually be. A lot people might ask for a feature without really thinking about if (or how) it improves their game experience, and that's what my questions were looking to address. Last Time an Upgrade Dropped
I had an unusually lucky weekend (for me) and found two upgrades. One of my upgrades was a pair of pants from the Blackthorne set that I ended up using mostly because it helped my Magic Find. The other upgrade was a two-handed axe for my Barbarian. It’s just under 1200 DPS, but also offered 400 Strength so it really helped him with his damage. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

    Using Banners As Town Portals
A suggestion was recently introduced to the forums where Banners could perhaps be used as Town Portals, but Blizzard's plans don't involve characters reviving 10 yards from where they died. Instead the devs have confirmed that the death penalty to characters will no longer scale beyond 3 seconds! In a future patch, of course.

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

We definitely appreciate the feedback, though, and will continue to consider how we might be able to accommodate this suggestion -- or at least something similar -- in the future.

That said, we completely agree that banners in their current form are pretty boring and we'd love to make them more useful. If you have other ideas for banner uses, please share them!

(On a note that's somewhat related to respawning, we also happen to agree that incremental resurrection timers are overkill -- especially given the other penalties you incur when dying -- and are looking to change it so that players can always revive at the last checkpoint five seconds after death in an upcoming patch.)

I'd like to plant my banner on the ground and dance around it while frogs fall from the sky.
    http://us.battle.net...plague-of-toads ?

Make that 3 seconds please... otherwise it's a negative patch to players who rarely die.
    Noted!

    Completely agree!
Turns out we do, too. I followed up with our designers, and they asked me to clarify that the "5 seconds" accounts for 2 seconds for the "You have been killed!" window appears and then the standard 3-second wait to resurrect. So, we're not actually increasing the timer at all; we're just looking to no longer increment the timer for players who die multiple times.

Also, awesome suggestions! Keep'm coming. :)

All characters and items being converted to non-ladder will remain intact, but once converted these characters will no longer have access to ladder content such as creating ladder-only rune words.

This ladder reset, like all those before it, creates a clean slate where all ladder characters begin at level 1 with no previous items to help them. To participate, simply wait until the Diablo II realms return to service on November 6, log in to Battle.net, and tick the “Ladder Character” checkbox when creating a new character. You can track ladder character leveling progress by clicking on the Ladder button from the main Diablo II in-game Battle.net interface.

    Thanks for your feedback!

As Lylirra mentioned here, we're definitely aware of the frustration vendoring the wrong item can cause for players (I've done it, myself). We strongly urge players to use caution whenever selling items to a vendor, and to take advantage of the Buyback tab in instances where an oversight occurs, but beyond that, we have no immediate plans for an additional layer of protection. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

I don't know how you "accidentally" sell your gear and then like 10 more items so you can't buy it back.
It happens. That doesn't make someone an idiot, though. It just makes them human (because, hey, we all make mistakes).

At present, we feel that the Buyback system is a good safeguard and don't have any immediate plans to add any additional preventative features. That said, we're still open to your feedback about other options, and we especially encourage constructive discussions debating what those other options might be.

As far as I know, we no longer sell any of these items straight-away, and the limited edition diorama is sold out, so you'd need to search for second-hand sellers for such rare treasures.

    Updated Undocumented 1.0.5 Patch Notes
A few days ago we compiled a nice big list of undocumented patch notes for 1.0.5 and later updated it, but since then it has gotten a few more additions, so here are all the changes we've noticed in the latest Diablo 3 update. Feel free to add even more changes in the comments.

    Monk 1.0.5 Budget Guide
TryHardEnmity has created a budget guide for Monks for 1.0.5. His video will show how Monks can farm well in MP2 with about 3 million gold invested in gear.

Stay Awhile And Listen Author Interview
The final part of the sneak peeks for the "Stay Awhile and Listen" book on Blizzard's history has been released on Shacknews and it's actually an interview with the author - David Craddok. He explains how he got in touch with Blizzard North over the years and also a few words about himself. You can read part 1 and 2 of the sneak peeks on this link and part 3 on this one. Or you could read the entire thing on the Shacknews website. Attention: it's very long and very awesome.
Craddock: I've interviewed approximately 80, and the list is still growing as I fill in holes I missed the first time around plus flesh out seven more years of history. Readers will get to hear from all sorts of movers and shakers at the two Blizzards, plus hear from periphery "characters" that influenced the main personalities along the way. For example, Dave Brevik and the Schaefers met at a clipart company, FM Waves, where they made their first game. I interviewed their bosses there to gain insight into the Condor cofounders' formative years in game development.
As for the most compelling interviewee, everyone I talked to was excited to share their perspective so that's hard to narrow down. If I have to choose one, I choose Dave Brevik. For our appointments, I'd meet him at his office and we'd cross the nearby train tracks and walk a few blocks to the local Starbucks for coffee and conversation.
On the way, we'd catch up: Games, family, whatever came up. I enjoyed our catch-ups as much as I enjoyed the "business at hand" talks where I shoved a recorder in his face. (Just kidding. I placed the recorder between us on the table. I did shove it in his face during the walks back to his office, though.)

    Official Diablo 3 Wallpaper
This awesome wallpaper of all playable characters in Diablo 3 was published during this year's Comic-Con in New York when Blizzard announced its upcoming book "Heroes Rise, Darkness Falls".

    Issues With Reflect Damage
Ever since 1.0.5 hit the PTR some players have noticed that they die more quickly to monsters with Reflect Damage. The devs have just green lit community managers to talk about the issue, and so - lots was communicated!

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

We know Reflects Damage has been a little more challenging for some players in this patch, so we've been reviewing feedback regarding the affix pretty closely since 1.0.5 released. The actual values for the stat haven't changed at all and, in general, it seems like the issue for players is really just related to increased monster health thanks to Monster Power.

Since monsters have a lot more health in the higher MP levels, not only do fights last longer, but players need to do a lot more damage in order to kill their targets. Of course, that means there's a lot more opportunity for you to get hit with Reflects Damage. So, whereas before the patch, a player may have been able to kill monsters with the Reflects Damage affix no problem and with health to spare, now that fights are lasting longer that same player may not have as much success -- at least, not without making some adjustments to their build or gear.

That said, we do agree that we can make some improvements. For example, we'll be making it so that damage dealt by pets will no longer reflect back to the player. We're also toying with the idea of changing Reflects Damage so that it has a duration and can only be activated by monsters periodically (rather than it always being active), but that's definitely not yet set in stone.

NOOOO, don't cave to these pussys.
If we feel like it's a change that will be better for the long-term health of the game, then we'll move forward with it. We certainly appreciate your thoughts and feedback on the matter in the meantime. :)

I just wish reflect dmg monsters have an aura or something so I can identify it before getting myself killed.
    I'll pass on the suggestion.

How about just changing it so RD can be dodged like pre-patch and all problems solved....duh
You could never actually dodge Reflects Damage in the live game. The bug only existed in the PTR version of 1.0.5 (which was fixed before we released the patch), so the "we fixed it" line never should been included in the live patch notes. It was, however, correctly included in the PTR patch notes.

I can take the heat for that one.

Despite having Reflect Damage being an everyday complain on General/PTR Feedback thread FOR MONTHS, despite realizing it's a bad design, nothing was discusses by the CMs til now. I didn't wanna complain about lack of communication but really :/
We certainly saw the discussions before hand and passed them along, but there were no plans for adjustments that we could communicate until now.

    Couple of follow ups:

    - Hydra and Sentry are technically "pets" (so to speak), so whenever we make the change to no longer allow pet damage to reflect back to the player, they'll be included too.

    - If we do elect to move forward with having Reflects Damage be a duration-based affix, we'd also want to add a new visual for whenever RD is active.

Adding Commas To Large Gold Sums
There have been many complains every since the game launched about differentiating large sums of gold when items are being listed on the Auction House. Lylirra explains why that's been done and how they're planning on fixing it.

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

One thing to keep in mind is that Diablo III is a global game, available in multiple regions around the globe. And, across those regions, the decimal style varies.

In the US, for example, decimals are identified with periods (ex: 1.23). Whereas in a lot of places in Europe, decimals are identified with commas (ex: 1,23). This means that a number like one million would look a bit different in each of those regions. In the US, it would look like "1,000,000" and in Europe it would look like "1.000.000".

So, which decimal style do we use? That question is actually one of the main reasons we chose not to include commas initially, since it could be confusing to players in other regions outside North America. We also didn't fully realize what kind of impact not having breaks would have on the user experience (and, yes, that's our bad).

That said, we agree that not having any method of breaking out values in the auction house isn't ideal, so we're currently discussing how best to address the issue (hopefully without creating other issues for players in other countries). We could just use commas, or we might do something more universal likes spaces.

Isnt the game split into regions??? use the correct decimal style for the region...
It's actually not that simple, but fair suggestion even still.

(We are also considering spaces, yes.)

    Make it region-specific.
It's frankly pathetic that this hasn't been implemented already.
There are three gameplay regions for Diablo III:

    North America
    Europe
    Asia

Many countries within those regions use different decimal styles, so unfortunately it's not as simple as making it "region-specific." Also, making a change apply to only one region and not another isn't always ideal or an available option.

Now, like I said, we agree it'd be nice for players to break out values in the auction house (at the least the values that they enter themselves). In the end, we may just add commas, since that's what the service already uses in a lot of places. We're also considering other options (like spaces) that are more universal.

Hey guys, this discussion is getting a little out of hand. =/ If you want to figuratively shoot the messenger (that being me), that's fine, but let's please try to keep the conversation as civil as possible.

Also, it looks some of my follow up posts may have been missed in the excitement, so I'm going to quickly reiterate a few points:

    - We agree with your feedback and want to make it easier for players to tell the difference between 1000000 and 10000000.

    - We have considered simply adding spaces.

    - We have also considered just adding commas, since it's what the auction house already uses.

    - We didn't originally add commas to begin with, because we were concerned about regional differences and didn't fully realize how not having separations would impact players. That may have been the wrong call, but we're looking to amend it.

You just need to post "yea we forgot that, it was a big fault, we need to correct and add commas"
    http://us.battle.net...3457?page=6#119 :)
We made a choice, and that choice had its reasons (which were actually well-intentioned). We may not have made the best choice, though -- which we realize -- and we agree that an improvement can be made.

Last night, our authentication service (the step that verifies your account information whenever you log in) encountered an issue which resulted in some players being unable connect to Battle.net. This issue affected logins for Diablo III, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft, as well as Battle.net Account Management and our official forums until approximately 11:30 p.m. PDT yesterday evening.

We then experienced another issue this morning with our authentication service that impacted most players' ability to log in to our games. That issue was resolved at approximately 10:30 a.m. PDT, and at this time players should be able to connect to Diablo III, Battle.net Account Management, and the forums without any problems.

If you are continuing to experience issues with login, please let us know in this thread. Before you do, though, we ask that review our Diablo III Support Page and Technical Support forum first to make the issue isn’t client-side or a known error.

Thank you in advance for your reports!

Just as a follow up, we're aware that some players are experiencing payment delays from the real money auction house (as well as other general usability problems) and are investigating the issue at this time.

    Buying Back Vendored Items
While the buyback option is a great tool for recovering items sold to a vendor, it will only display the 12 most recently-sold items and will clear out whenever your character leaves a game. As other players have noted, sold items that no longer appear on the Buyback tab are permanently lost and cannot be recovered. (You can learn a bit more about our restoration policy for Diablo III here.)

I know it sucks to lose something you were intending to sell on the auction house or even wear yourself, but there are many, many items to be found in Diablo III. Who knows, though? Maybe an even better item will drop for you soon! :) (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

I didn’t get very far, though, when I was suddenly vortexed back into combat to find a very angry avenger Fallen.

Stay Awhile And Listen Book - Sneak Peak Part 3
The third part of the sneak peak about Blizzard's history book has made it to Shacknews. Check the link here to see the previously published parts. Here's an excerpt from the sneak peak, but you can also read the entire thing by clicking on this link:

"Our company was saying, "We're going to take on this developer, Condor, and we're going to publish their game. It's called Diablo." And for a couple of months we were working on it not knowing that it was turn-based. When it came out that it was turn-based, we said, "No, that sucks."
We actually took a vote. They said, "Raise your hand if you would buy this game if it were turn-based." I think two people raised their hands. Then they said, "Raise your hand if you would buy this game if it were real-time." Everybody raised their hands. Allen went in and called Dave Brevik and said, "Look, you've got to make this real-time."
- Duane Stinnett, artist, Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard South suggested we make it real-time after we sent them the first build that was this turn-based version. We argued, "No, we're making this game." But they finally wore us down—it probably only took an hour or so over the phone—to the point where we said, "Okay, we'll give it a try, but it's going to be really hard work to do. It's going to take a lot of time, and we're going to need some more money for the project."

    Updated 1.0.5 Undocumented Changes
Yesterday we posted about the undocumented changes that came with 1.0.5 and after some feedback updated the post. Click the link here to see lots of graphical and mechanical additions. If you know of anything we've missed feel free to mention it in the comments.

    3.1 Million DPS Demon Huner
After we posted a few days back about a 2.6 million DPS Barbarian, this week it seems a Demon Hunter has raised the bar quite a lot higher. User nugiyen has created a topic on our forums and shows off his numbers in this Azmodan kill video. Check out his armory and build below.

Stay Awhile And Listen Sneak Peek
David Craddok, Author of the Blizzard history book Stay Awhile and Listen, has posted parts 1 and 2 from its 8th chapter on Shacknews. Included are dozens of interviews with the original Condor developers, including Max and Erich Schaefer, Dave and Peter Brevik, Eric Sexton and many others. You can find part 1 here and part 2 over here. Here are a few excerpts:

We all pile into the kitchen because it's the biggest space we have. People are sitting on the tables. Now we're going to make the decision on whether Diablo is turn-based or real-time. I would say probably 90 percent of the team wants it real-time. Dave doesn't. I don't. But pretty much everybody else wanted it real-time.
    - Rick Seis, programmer, Condor

You couldn't just test out a little bit of code and run the program and see what happened. You really had to think about as many tasks as possible ahead of time. In that way you had to be a little more organized. You couldn't just change a line of code and re-run it.
    - Robin van der Wel, programmer, Condor
