Just because "pirate swords" are in Diablo 3 doesn't mean that they are in fact pirate swords. Could anyone not have come up with the same design besides a pirate? Just because pirates of old wielded them doesn't actually coin them being pirate-only swords, plenty of others wielded such.
Wasn't it stated somewhere a while back that the Paladin would be a quest or side-quest giver? I could be wrong though. Nevertheless, having to fight their corrupted beings would be mucho fun esp. fighting the druid in his werewolf or werebear form would be pretty intense. Here is pretty cool idea they may have thought up: Having the previous heroes corrupted and recruited as Diablo's personal guard and you must kill them before the final fight with D himself.
You're 100% correct about D2. This, however, is D3, and I'm thinking that since D3 will not have any immunities, we won't need multiple types of elemental damage as badly.
