I've seen a lot of good ideas in threads and interviews with the developers regarding Hardcore PvP. Here are two of my variations:
"Sparring" - Basically you fight until you reach 1 HP. You drop to a knee and forfeit without dying (similar to WoW's dueling system). For Team PvP, you would drop to a knee and be removed from the Arena until next round. (This would give those who want to PvP with their HC characters a way to do so without fear of losing all their hard work.
Too easy you say? Not Hardcore enough? Upon forfeiting the match, depending on your level bracket, you are charged a certain amount of gold which is given to the opponent in exchange for letting you live. (You must have the specified amount of gold on your character before you enter into this arena.)
"Deathmatch" - Hardcore rules all apply, strict leveling brackets apply. If you die, your character is gone. Fights can only take place if both players are of the same level. (I understand some waiting queues would be long, but this is to ensure a better experience.) Several warnings would appear before the player chooses this option for his/her first time to ensure they know what they are getting into.
Upon winning a ranked match, you receive a page in your character's profile page which names and describes all of the heroes that your character has defeated and permanently ended.
"Whodoovoodoo - 47 Witch Doctor" - May 15th, 2012 7:30PM"
"BarBEARian - 60 Barbarian - July 14th, 2012 3:18 AM"
Maybe there could also be some achievements for success in these modes as well.
This is written like op is god of software engineering. OP, you put very much effort and work in your article, but your thoughts about the game are antique imho. D3 is a modern game with new ideas, nobody can say much stuff about before release, particularly in this arrogant manner.
I completely agree.
A lot of work was clearly invested into putting all of this together, and for that, I commend the OP.
However I feel as though Jay Wilson and the rest of the team are doing a good job. Jay grew up playing Diablo and D2, he has a good base of knowledge for making D3 into a successful, addicting game just as it's predecessors were. I'm currently in the Beta, and I have no complaints about any of the systems or mechanics in the game, somethings still need a little more work; other than that, the game is great.
The class that will be the best at clearing will be the one that fits your playstyle the best. As far as Wizard's Teleport vs Barbarian - His/her sprint ability with a rune has a 16 second duration with no cooldown, only costing rage; therefore if you attack a few mobs inbetween running you can essentially have permanent sprint.
Teleport has a looonnnnng CD even if you can get 3-4 TPs off before the rune's cooldown.
Grats to everyone who got in! Make sure you look up my thread titled: "Beta Buddies - Post your Battletags Here" I'll add you to the list of DiabloFans members who made it in and you'll have a lot more people to play with.
Hardcore PvP death would be incredible. No other game really offers that.
If you win, you get a great sensation of success; your character is alive and all your invested time and effort has paid off. You will also feel accomplished that the PvP isn't casual; the other player was most likely trying their absolute hardest to stay alive and defeat you.
If you lose, you will either:
- Get angry and never HC PvP again.
- Be inspired to learn from your mistakes and rebuild a new character.
From Jay's last post keeping us updated with what they've been working on, I can't possible see them releasing it anytime before April.
But as mentioned by others, I too will be buying a new computer for D3, and it would be nice to know when the game is coming out so I can make plans around it.
I'm not in the beta unfortunately, but as soon as the game comes out ,I'll be playing 24 / 7 , 7 days a week, since I finished my college ,and unemployed atm, so will play diablo 3 fanatically , and always looking forward to playing with good, skilled people. Will probably play with wizard as a first class, then barbarian hardcore ,after I grind enough items in first playthrough.
My battletag is Bmiha#2785.
See you soon ,guys.
I won't put you on the updated list as of now, (since you're not in the beta yet) but once we get a release date from Blizz I will make another thread for Retail Release.
If you get into the beta, repost that you made it in and I'll put you up on the main list!
Sorry about that Soul! Since you originally just posted an arrow showing where yours was, I accidentally missed it the first time when I was just copying and pasting all of the names.

Go on to Battle.net and log into your account. To the right of your game list it will say something about Choosing or creating a Battletag.

We can only hope that they add some new PvP content other than 5v5 TDM.
