this fucking thing is gonna get me fired. i'm ninja-alt/tabbing like crazy in the office right now.
THen you should stop. lol It is not worth it if you get fired ont he day that DIablo 3 comes out. Not a fun time to get home.

lol i know. slight exaggeration i guess, unlikely that i'd get fired for that. besides, my surreptitious surfing skills are inferno-level good.

As an IT Admin I'd advise against doing anything other than work while using anything connected to your office's network, even if its your mobile phone over WiFi. There are tools us IT Pro's use that document and log for indefinite periods of time every single little packet of information that travels across our networks. It's not uncommon for me to receive requests from high ranking execs requesting traffic logs for employees that they have under review. If you give them a reason to investigate your work and your IT department has such tools implemented they will very easily find out every single last web site you visited or action you took over your computer's network connection.

Heck I have one particular scenario where my network traffic monitoring tools send out alerts to human resources every time someone accesses facebook during work hours and it's all perfectly legal as you are not supposed to operate a company's computer system with any sense or pretext of privacy.

Been warning the wife since last year. Gave her a taste of what's to come playing the Beta over and over and over. Just bought her Sims 3 and a few more puzzle games for her phone. I have pre-negotiated at least 2 hours of game time during the afternoons, half an hour before work and being able to play after she falls asleep in bed. Things are go!!!!

Nice idea, and it's pretty cool to see it working in the beta already. It has great potential.

But I'm going to definitely advise to be very cautious about the use of the macro thing come retail. Just because at that attack speed it's difficult to manually manage your attacks generally does not excuse the use of out of game influences, big or small. I'm sure they've had enough of bots and will stop anything that even inches towards it, too. After all, for them it's not worth making all these intricate exceptions just for a few rare build variations.
Again I'm not saying what you're doing is bad, just be cautious. I'd definitely hold out until they give an answer if I were you. Or go through the ToA where it's probably mentioned in some vague way or another.

At any rate, good luck with it =)

Well, the topic has stayed on the first page of on the official Monk Class forums and I specifically requested clarification from Blizzard. At this point a Blue hasnt directly responded in any of my threads but someone posted on my thread on the official forums that they saw a blue post stating that macros wouldnt be a problem in D3. Guess we have to let this play out.

Go pickup a pair of plain white "Balanced" weapons and play with it yourself. The game is adding both direct bonuses to attack speed together and then adding the total bonus to each weapon separately. It's the only property I've seen doing this.

Alrighty, I will give this a good look at when I get home. I know items with the Keen affix work independently, and have tested this with numerous speed combinations and bonus speed %. Every test I've done thus far has resulted in very accurate calculations using the tooltip speed listed, including one I did with a Balanced Sabre and a Keen Broad Sword.

Assuming you are correct about using two balanced weapons, I imagine this is some sort of bug, since the Keen affix does not work this way. Also, if this is the only instance where bonus speed is cumulative, I don't think it will matter much once everyone is past lvl 13 and using all magical items. (Unless of course you have terrible luck on drops!)

Heh, judging from the beta using two Balanced versions of the same weapon is better than having an average blue or rare. I'm guessing it's a bug, if not there will be even more demand for high quality magical and rare items. But, as you said, this is probably only a matter of the low level areas and character cap of the beta.

It is already in the tooltip damage. A weapon that has a base of 7-11 with an additional 2-4 holy damage will show 9-15 damage at the top. You don't need to add it in, the tooltip already did.

    Gotcha!

Also, do not add the bonus from each weapon to both. They are independent.

...Just not worth the time in my opinion.

The thing is that it doesn't take any time really. I wouldn't run out of my way to pick one up but if it's right there, why not? It's still gold.

Fun little fact about white weapons in the beta...

As of the beta, "Balanced" versions of White weapons are some of the best DPS available when dual wielding. The reason being that +Decimal APS on one weapon gets applied to both weapons.

So if you have 2x "Balanced Hand Axe" each with +0.19 APS, each Axe actually gets +0.38 APS. Add the 2-4 DMG +5% APS Rings from the vendor and it's the highest DPS you can get dual wielding.

+Damage scales ridiculously well with faster APS so those rings and "Balanced" white weapons are insane. Find the fastest "Balanced" weapons you can!

Glad somebody else posted this on this thread. I'm using a pair of Balanced Simple Daggers on my Monk to get to a total of 2.41 aps and he is doing only 10 total dps less than with much higher damage rare Shivs. Daggers deal 3-7 dmg and the shivs 5-13, 8.5dps vs 14.2dps. I THINK I saw something mentioned about this being a bug in the betta, not sure.

Was just playing around with it using my monk and I noticed two things.

First, where do you add elemental damage added to the weapon? For example if a weapon adds 1-2 Cold Damage it doesn't seem to get factored into the game's total DPS field either. If I enter all the data into the spreadsheet according to how my Monk is outfitted and I leave out this small bit of elemental damage from both of the daggers I'm equipping I get a very similar value of total DPS on your spreadsheet as I do in the game. You're spreadsheet reads 55.35 and the game reads 55.46. Could that minuscule .16 ammount of damage be all you get from 1-2 Cold Damage on the main hand ans 1-2 Poison Damage on the off-hand?

The second thing I noticed I think I heard someone mention it was a bug in the beta and I can definitely quantify it using your spreadsheet. When I take off my two rare daggers and change them for my two white "Balanced Simple Daggers" that add attack speed by way of +0.20 attacks per second on the main hand for a total of 1.70 aps on that hand and +0.14 attacks per second on the off hand for a total of 1.64 aps on that hand the calculations on the spreadsheet show that total DPS with this pair of daggers should be 42.89 while the game shows a much higher 47.26. As it seems both the +0.20 and +0.14 attacks speeds get added up to +0.34 attack speed and this gets applied to both hands for 1.84 aps on each hand. If I enter that aps on both hands on your spreadsheet I get 47.27 total DPS. So I'm not sure if this is actually a bug. Could explain why my Monk feels so strong with daggers that only deal 3-7 damage each and only a little bit stronger with slower 5-13 damage rare shivs that have their attack speed modified via a %.

Skills with no cooldown are cast at the same speed as your attacks / second. So if you are at 1.63 attacks / sec on a wizard, you would cast Magic Missile at the same speed. Same with Barbarian & Bash etc... The only abilities that are not based off attack speed are those with cooldowns, and those leaving a damage-over-time effect on the targets / ground. I'm not sure why you think the skill speeds are so complicated. Blizzard made everything pretty cut and dry. There may be attack speed caps based on animations like in D2, but so far that has not been confirmed.

Also, with the "average strike" display, players could see what the ability would yield given their current itemization. This number is NOT impacted at all by attack speed, and would serve for abilities with cooldowns or damage-over-time effects. Some simple math would be required on the user's end.

Yeah, I'm not convinced that all abilities simply cast at your attack speed. For example, Fists of Thunder even states in the tooltip that it's faster. Also, Splinters has been said to be slower than a single cast of Poison Dart. And when you look at abilities like Arcane Torrent and Rapid Fire, they have preset multipliers in terms of attack speed. Perhaps only certain abilities have an increased speed, but still it's enough to alter DPS calculations and makes it harder to understand how much damage you're actually doing.

Also, dots with cooldowns (and possibly higher cost dots) are calculated differently in terms of their damage, which could further confuse people who want to understand how much damage their dots are doing.

This! In the case of the Monk there is already info on how much each generator affects aps and each one is different. So we will need each skills aps multiplier if any.

I'm not terribly good at programming/making macros and such, so I was wondering the way you determine the delay based on your attack speed.

Trial and error each time your attack speed changes. So if you get new weapons that are faster or slower you will need to go back to the macro and compensate. Basically try to get the macro to allow you to do the 3 hits consecutively without missing the 3rd strike. Each generator has different speeds so don't go to crazy on getting each one to hit perfect. Just set the same timing between them and go up and down 2ms at a time on all 3 of them until you can do the 3rd strike reliably when you click shift + macro once.

So if you really feel like its worth it go for it but the warden might see you ;)

Meh, I digress. This doesn't exactly put your character on auto-pilot. You still need to control a LOT of what is happening. The only thing it's doing is clicking left click, right click and 1 key on keyboard in sequence so you don't have to. Besides they sell the Diablo 3 Steelseires mouse with a big fat mouse software for creating macros and different binds, I don't see them having a major problem with it. Not a single blue has commented on the official forums about it and a bunch of people are talking about weaving combos on Monks using macros. I guess regarding that subject we shall continue forward until we get a slap on the wrist.

The easiest way to weave multiple generators once aps get's crazy is going to be by the use of a macro. You will lose all feeling in your fingers from how fast you will have to be clicking. Posted a thread of me doing just that, more info inside: http://www.diablofans.com/topic/39080-why-i-think-a-3-generator-build-is-viable/

With each different generator used it adds 8% damage. So if you used only crippling wave it only gives you 8%. If you use deadly reach twice then finish with crippling wave it adds 16%

That makes sense. But I'd imagine the first 8% comes from switching from your 1st gen to your 2nd gen then an extra 8% when going to a 3rd gen. I don't think you'd get the 8% bonus from having this Passive and just using one generator from how it's worded.
