posted a message on Announcing the DiabloFans "Site Update" Beta, Diablo 3 For PS3 and Xbox 360 Giveaway
Offline mode. I've long been a solo player and I found the Diablo experience to be much more immersive when I could play on my own.

And, this game would be played on my lovely PS3.

Probably not an all inclusive list, I'd imagine. These are printed well in advance, and Blizzard probably wasn't done with all affix implementation. My guess anyway.

posted a message on Beta Server Down for Maintenance
They also warned everyone that there would likely be server issues and difficulties getting in. Again, we weren't promised anything, other than there would be an open beta that was designed for stress testing. And they have successfully stress tested the servers. People act like stress tests shouldn't affect the servers, but that's their purpose. The company wants to push the server beyond the limit so they can prepare for worst case scenarios for when the game is actually live and you are actually a paying customer.

And no one should whine about pre-ordering or the Annual Pass. You got, and will get precisely the item you paid for upon making that decisions. I see nothing about open betas or guaranteed DIII betas.

Yeah, I'm enjoying myself and all. But this constant sense of self-entitlement is sickening. Why had they "better" put them up for another week? Because this was something that was promised to us?

They set up a test for server stability and the like. Yes, we're guinea pigs in this, but perfectly able guinea pigs who can use our own free will to decide whether or not we participate. If this -video game- is something that you feel like you're owed, then you ought to reexamine your life, your priorities, and the things you stress about.

This was never for our benefit, but I'm sure they're happy many of us are enjoying it. I hope that the many people who post on forums demanding that video companies give them free stuff find the means to grow up someday. But I have my doubts it will ever happen.

posted a message on Open Beta Weekend!
I doubt this is anything other than they expected. I love that I can take basic psychology 101 lessons and read a ton into people's reactions on these and other forums. This is exactly what they expected for the stress test. Your issue is that YOU, precious little snowflakes, can't get into the beta, while others can.

They did say stress test. They did say you'll likely have issues getting in and with latency. All things happening.

One question guys - when you finished downloading the game client. Are you actually able to install it? Or we have to wait with the installation until may 15th?

Probably will be able to install, just not log in. But I'll let you know in about 15 minutes.

I have no idea where my old CD is. And this depresses me. I was kind of wanting to play for a few minutes the other day just to remember the old days.

posted a message on DiabloFans Calculator Build Contest (ONE POST ONLY)
    AOE Damage Support Wizard:
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#ejSYZf!hfV!ZaZaca

This build is meant to be very AOE to help quickly start draining life so others can do some clean up of some very diminished monsters. A couple of spells that basically have chances to repeat themselves or have another AOE effect to help hit as many creatures as possible. As well, the build incorporates some basic defensive skills just in case the damage doesn't happen and my character has to run for it.

I enjoy these AOE builds because, in terms of the visual, Wizards throwing down amazing god-like spells that fill the screen is the sort of visceral imagery that I think of when I put any kind of spell caster in a dark fantasy universe.

posted a message on I remember when...
Diablo 1: The Butcher, of course. The fear I first felt when I saw Diablo for the first time, and the immediate lack of fear that occurred when I stalled him out with my Rogue. Most importantly, the late, late nights when the lights were out, and I had my headphones on, being scared to death of the atmosphere.

Diablo 2: Multiplayer. Simple as that. So much fun running around Hell difficulty, avoiding MSLE mobs with resist lower aura of death. Good times.

Diablo 3: Well, I don't know yet. But I'm sure there will be many memories to have in this installment.

Go learn a new language perhaps.

Rosetta Stone is great. That's not a bad suggestion. Maybe learn Japanese so you can play all those import games. And you'll have broadened your horizons.

This might not really help you, but find the hobby you are passionate about outside of gaming. In my case, I've been working on my film work. Obsessing over it in fact. I finally got a decent camera after doing several very low budget films on weaker equipment, and found an amazing script that is right up my alley to direct.

I'm not saying make a movie, though, if that's what you're into, go for it. But find that thing that you are passionate about and go for it. Writing? Podcasting? Something along those lines. Tons of fun, and eats of tons of time.

I'm generally the ranged caster type, and I love the Wizard, but I can see myself playing a lot of Monk. The way they play, at least visually, is pretty phenomenal.

posted a message on Jay Wilson - Skill and Rune Changes
Several people had seen this change coming from a long way away. It made sense. Think about when Blizzard reduced stash size. The writing was on the wall at that point. Runes in the forms of items were gone.

And good riddance. Listen, I enjoy the item hunt as much as the next guy. But stop pretending that this was because we were hunting for uniqueness. The core principle behind the item hunt was to find the precise items that would most benefit the build you had selected, a build that had been mathematically determined to be one of the best builds. Thus, tons of people had it. Runes were a way to customize our characters. And they still really are. I don't want that system tied to items, particularly when the item is hard to find.

We will still be item hunting for optimization. We will still be item hunting for the top end use of our build. But at least our playstyle (which runes are directly tied into) will not be tied into waiting on that item, particularly one that will be rarer than all the other items out there.

posted a message on If You Could Import One Class From D2, Which Would You Save?
I actually kind of want to see Druids make a reappearance. I would love to see the Diablo III take on them, with such a new, visceral aesthetic to the game. I could imagine the werebears looking really good.

And Paladins would be interesting to see again. A fun zealadin would also look pretty cool with the newer graphics.

posted a message on How are you passing the time till D3?
I'm directing two short films and a feature. I also do a movie podcast. These eat up my time a lot. I'll also be getting my kids back soon, so I'll have that to focus on. In terms of other games; I still play WoW, I've been playing SWTOR, and even a little Diablo II for old time's sake.
