There are zero "unique" demon hunter weapons that are not a bow of some kind. There are items that have demon hunter attributes on them; but those are randomly rolled items. Blizzard doesn't control them. They're random.
DH is meant to use a ranged weapon; period. You can do builds that don't require them... but certainly not very well at low levels (due to lack of skills/runes). You also won't do very well. My suggestion is to get your bow back. If you want to use melee weapons; roll a monk or barbarian.
You can, late level, deal with grenades and traps and never fire a shot... but again, I wouldn't recommend it. The real power of a DH comes in it's shots. Also; any build without vault needs vault. Vault is amazing at every level.

This build is all about generating Arcane Power and unleashing it appropriately. It's built around using high crit to reduce CDs and spamming signature spells to fire off absolutely devestating non-signatures.
The extra armor + control from ice meteor will help in higher difficulties... enabling you to use archon far more often as you crit to reduce cooldowns.
The soulstones allowed possession because they were trapped within them. The soulstones are gone.
We're not really sure what the blacksoulstone is about yet... it could harbor another evil, it could harbor a set of evils, or it could allow control over all the dominions of Hell. We have no idea yet.
My ultimate guess is that the black soulstone will somehow ressurect Diablo; or that he was never fully killed off in D2.
