I think the monk will bring a lot of good support. I still think classes will be able to do enough damage to go without the monk. The monk will help but not be a necessity to do well.
Inferno will likely be much easier with a friend. I am sure you could solo all of the content with enough practice, but most people will party through most stages of the game. It is sort of like in wow you will see a hunter or DK solo something eventualy, but at first everyone is going to be partying till they have the gear to solo effectivly.
2v2 would be my ideal game to play. It allows for closely cordinated teamwork, without making Diablo too complicated. They develpores stated they wanted it to be a fun game, without the seriousness of WoW Arena. Keeping it to 1v1 and 2v2 would allow it to be just for fun, yet still have teamwork involved.
I will be PVP just for fun, and as I would like to see WSG style maps it is not a deal breaker. There will be so much fun PVE to do with friends that I won't mind missing pvp as much. It is a nice option just to have anything like an arena. I got along in diablo2 just fine without an arena.
I think it won't be very balanced, but it will be fun. I think ranged classes might had certain advantages, as well as classes that can regain health. I look foward to it and it should be great, but you might have to be certain classes to be the best of the best.
Interesting idea, but I don't think it would work. It might be interesting, if instead of dying on Hardcore Arena, you were not allowed to play hardcore arena on the character for 3 hours or so. It would penalize you for dying, but you wouldn't have to start over from scratch.
That looks like a great build. I would be willing to try it out. I really like the idea of the build you are using, but it might lack survivability. There is a lot of build testing to do. Great idea.
Playing melee classes has a great feel to it, that I don't get as a caster. I like to be up in your face smashing people with big weapons! I want to play Barbarian again because you feel so strong and you are at the front of the pack, always rushing ahead to kill anything that comes your way!
I played diablo 2 for years and it was part of the reason I still game today. I haven't been selected for beta yet but I have been fallowing the forums posts closely. I cant wait for diablo 3 to come out, it is going to be so fun! I want to test all the classes and really see what it is like. They keep pushing back the release date and I am itching to get back to my diablo roots
