This is probably dead, but if anyone else is trying to figure this out, you just need to know the special characters to get either color codes or text formatting codes.
As an example, if you want dark blue text, you precede the text to get that color with: https://blogtech.us/minecraft-color-codes/
follow it won't display in the book, but instead will tell Minecraft to color the text blue.
