U can survive monsters in inferno act1 now....WOW...will back to this thread in a few hours, when u hit act 2 and tell us how u hate this game again.
lol, people like this make me laugh, it is almost like they thunk it is cool to subtly mock someone for not being as far in the game as they are. "oh haha you are in act 1? tell me about your problems when you are in act 3, like me, the bestest ever."
rather than make a comment that relates to how they remember feeling similar to the OP does when they were starting act 1, they put on their best troll faces and act all smug.
just from having a quick look at your stats, I can already tell you are taking more damage then you should because you guys are focusing too much on Resistances and not enough on armor. The optimal ratio is widely regarded to be a 1 resistance to 10 armor, to not get hit by the diminishing returns of the damage mitigation system the game incorporates.
you need to either build up much more armor to catch up to your resistances, or you need to sacrifice some of the resistance to top up the armor. Of course you are also correct about the life per hit and its importance, having close to 1k would be ideal.
I hope it stacks that way, its the only defense really for monks. Any monk that uses a shield is just silly xD
Never heard someone say a Tank using a Shield is silly before.
The monk is loaded with Damage reduction passives, an armor increase buff, Healing and sustain, but you are saying that almost doubling your armor by throwing on a shield is silly? I must admit I am thoroughly confused by this statement lol.
Honestly, the only passive I see being utterly useless at the moment is near death, all the others seem to be viable depending on what play style you choose for yourself. There are nice passive choices for offensive builds, dodge, sustain, tanks, spirit spenders, it really is a wide variety of choices.
it is definitely a easier difficulty build, I would predict that by act 3 of nightmare you will begin having the can't live long enough to dish out all this damage issue.
But who really knows for sure until you try right?
you can't install it until sometime during the 14th of May, so until then just leave it as is, and try again on May 14th. I believe i read it would unlock early install at 12pm PDT on the 14th, but don't quote me on that exactly i'm just going off what I thought I remember reading.
I see every one is automatically assuming that the dodge bonus from guardian's path is not added when using 1h + shield.
Did any one actually test that while it was available in the beta?
I highly doubt it, you can't consider yourself dual wielding if you are only attacking with one weapon. That is in fact what you are doing with a sword and shield, attacking with the sword only, That is like saying DH is dual wielding if they equip a bow and a quiver.
I guess we can't logically completely rule it out without actually trying it in game, but I highly highly doubt it.
It effects all incoming damage, so I would assume so. It doesn't specify dodging melee attacks, it just simply says dodging attacks, and shields block damage. I interpret that as whether it is melee/ranged/magic it is still an "attack" and "damage" regardless what form.
If there is a difference to what is blocked or dodged, then it would greatly influence the type of build I am going to end up going with to be honest.
it will also be much more of a pain to keep all your dodge passives up to optimal % than it would to just throw on a shield and worry about sustaining and focusing targets. I mean, the ability to block is just a bonus really, a shield gives one of the highest armor stats in the game, and if your basing a build around survivability, it is the most consistent damage mitigator of the bunch.
Dodge vs Shield will always be a personal preference thing as I mentioned before. Dodge is like peace work pay, you have amazing weeks and you have some horrible weeks. In this case with diablo, you could have an amazing string of dodges followed by a string of huge damage spikes. The Shield is like being on salary, you know what you are in for every time, in this case, you know you are going to take some damage all the time, but it will never be that high and never be no damage.
Both are viable for a variety of reasons, we are going to see some very effective use of both strategies in our time with diablo 3 I am sure of it.
it will literally be player preference, because any of the choices are good choices, all have room to play around with, and all have pros and cons.
the shield absorbs an actual amount of damage, ex. 89 - 110 damage, so if your armor and resistances from going with a tank build drop the damage low enough that the shield damage absorbed is more than the damage you would have took, you could in actual fact block 100% of the damage same as dodging.
The difference is when using a dodge build, the attacks that don't miss will hit for massive damage compared to being hit repeatedly by small damage numbers as a tank, all personal preference.
