Just got to youtube and watch some videos on there. Fighting ghom is all about positioning the gas clouds. Watch what they do to stay in the clouds longer or to kite the boss himself better. Its a simple gear check, so it will be hard if you are undergeared that is what I am finding out right now lol. Good luck.

How much resist all/armor do you have? More dps would be very good considering your health is crazy high. Honestly it would be better if you uped your resistances and armor, dropping your health by about 20k and picking up some life regen and LoH. I'm not saying that much health is bad, but you can turn that health into a more useful stat.

I am on Ghom atm with about 30k dps and I am finding it very hard to beat him. Because the longer the fight lasts the longer I have to keep up the gas cloud kiting (which I find pretty hard to get used to).

Yeah you're right. I was confused. I thought it was 60% base.

Higher health pool would be nice if you're using force armor. Cheapest way to up your EHP.

posted a message on Having trouble with my build
My wizard is my newest lvl 60 and has gone the furthest in inferno. Right now I am stuck at Ghom. Needing a bit mroe dps or learn to kite him better. I haven't made any gold either, but I did spend like 15-20 bucks on the RMAH to get some pieces of gear with vita, int, and AR. This game being as gear based as it is, I wasn't progressing and wasn't having much fun. So I did what blizz wanted me to and spent RL money lol. Nothing crazy though...

    My stats:
    HP:34k
    AR:450ish
    Armor:over 4k

    Dps:30k
    Int: 1650
    Crit chance: 22%
    Crit damage: 220%

So first thing is you need to up your defensive stats (the ones I listed are the most imporant ones. Stats such as LoH and life regen are very helpful but I have close to none.) while trying to keep your offensive stats similar.

The build you are using seems to not have very much AoE damage and you're missing the two most important defensive skills. Force armor and diamond skin. Adding those two skills to your bar alone will help you out tons. This is the build I've been using most of inferno and have had the most success with http://us.battle.net...PXQO!XYd!YbZaZY

Playstyle: Throw down hydra in a good spot for kiting (inbetween yourself and the mob) and spam arcane orb (stutter stepping helps tons here). While kiting make sure you have as close to 100% uptime on your hydra passive damage! When they get close pop mirror images and let them tank for you while you step back and burst em down with arcane orbs. Teleport is for jailers, wallers, and shit on the ground. And for a quick get away when the mob gets too close. Diamond skin is your "Oh shit" button. Save this for vortex, teleports, fast mobs, and reflect damage. Stuff that is harder to avoid. The MOST IMPORTANT thing here is to be reactive. As in you see the mobs coming near you and you know they will hit you pop any of your CDs. Getting a few nasty hits, not dodging mortars, or something similar WILL kill you fast.

Things that are good to know: The fracture rune overrides your mirror images. That is why I use wormhole for this spec. Plus its easier to get away from mobs when you can tele 3-4 times in a row. If you get hit for over 15% of you life with diamond skin up it will still proc illusionist. When fighting reflect damage try and save DS for your burst phase. When you can turn around and throw out like 4 arcane orbs in a row. If you have some AP on crit or Max AP on your gear you might swap out astral presence for Blur. It will up your EHP that much more.

Hope this helps. If you need any other help with the spec or playstyle hit me up. Or if it doesn't suit you then I can try and come up with something that can. Good luck!

posted a message on Stutter Step and Off-Screen Kiting
Yes pretty much OP. Don't keep them totally off your screen. Keep them near the edge of the screen and you'll be fine. I find that when stutter stepping using arcane orb works well. When it hits the mob they stop moving for a second from the impact of the orb. So when you stop to fire it off they stop for roughly the same time flinching. Even though the mob will eventually catch up to you. Movement speed boots (max is 12%) are important here.

Also I'd suggest using a couple defensive spells on your bar to make sure you don't die when they do come in close. Using diamond Skin, mirror image, tele, and the illusionist passive is my favorite set of defensive skills. Also what rune you have on tele depends on if you're using mirror images or not. Imo teleport should be on your bar in any build, and mirror images are very helpful to take a few hits and distract the mob. I use wormhole in my arcane orb, illusionist build. And fracture in my blizzard kite build because I don't use images in this one.

I do not agree with those saying to drop Arcane Orb. I switched to it with around that dps and I havent looked back since. Kiting with AO is about the same as kiting with blizzard but you do much more burst damage which makes trash mobs easier to deal with. I also find it kills elites fairly efficiently while kiting.

I prefer DS over Magic Weapon, Celestial Orb over Tap the Source, and Illusionist for Acts 3 and 4 over Arcane Pressence. My reasons are that DS+Illusionist+Teleport gives you lots of survivability since the absorbs from DS can still proc Illusionist even if you take no actual damage, thus DS practically becomes a second teleport. I used all 3 for Acts 3 and 4 and even when farming Act 3 because of the greatly improved survivability. Celestial orb is nice because it will hit all the annoying ranged guys that might otherwise hide behind the army of trash mobs charging at you. It's also great for shielding elites or invulnerable minions, though you likely should just skip the latter if you die on them since it's not really worth the usually considerable effort to kill as a kiter. Since you are using piercing orb, the limited amount of AP shouldn't be too big a deal as you can switch to that when you run out, and when kiting elites you likely will only have time to throw an Arcane Orb about as often as you can regenerate enough AP to be able to cast it.

I'm a little suprised no one said your HP is too low, since that seems to be the first thing people try to pipe in with, but as far as your dps, resists, and vit go, I think you're fine. You can clear all of Act 4 with that dps, aside from maybe Rakanoth or whatever his name is. You might even be able to drop a little vit since your resists are fairly high for the glass cannon builds. Just keep your EHP at or above 118k so that Force Armor will prevent you from being 2 shot by most elites. From there extra health regen will work nicely and give a bit more survivability, or at the least make things less stressful between pulls. I think 500-800 life per second is a good goal, though 1k+ is more noticable, but since you have DS you don't really need all that much regen for reflect mobs.

Wow I felt like you took the words right outta my mouth...

OT: Imo there is a thereshold of defensive stats that you don't really meet for act 3. You're close. I'd shoot for about 100 more AR and 8k-10k more health. I have 34k health, about 450 AR, a bit over 4k armor, and like 30k dps. They only thing I've had trouble with is Ghom. and I am stuck on him atm.

And like the guy I quoted said. Using those 3 defensive spells and the Illusionist passive you will notice your survivability go way up. For tele I use wormhole because using Mirror Image overrides the two you get from fracture. If you're quick enough you can get 4 teles in a row. I use the rune that gives you 5 mirror images. You use mirror images to tank the mobs that come near you while you run back and arcane orb them to death. Use tele for kiting and getting out of jailers, wallers, vortex, teleport, or anything else on the ground. And save DS for your "Oh Shit" button. Any vortex or fast mob that gets near you hit it asap. Also when fighting reflect damage mobs save DS for your "nuke phase". Like use mirror images to tank then pop DS and spam arcane orbs for some burst damage and you wont get hurt. Just make sure you are hitting these BEFORE the mobs hit you.

Also Temporal Flux isn't very good. The slow from blizz is twice that of temporal flux, which is reduced when fighting champs and rares.

I don't have a picture of the item because it dropped like 20 minutes before I had to leave for work. But I wrote down the stats.

    107-326 dmg, 169 int, 78 vita, 107 max mana, 10 mana/sec, 8%crit, and like 40 str (didn't write down the useless stat).

This was my first real good drop outta inferno, so I ended up putting it on the RMAH for a crazy amount just to see if it sells (which I doubt it will). When it comes out of the AH I would like to sell it for gold and was wondering about how much to put it up for. Or if anyone is willing to make an offer lemme know.

posted a message on PC 2 AMAZING GLOVES
First pair is obviously wayyy better. It has a perfect roll of attack speed. But the crit chance has a max of 10% (your roll is kinda low) and crit damage is 50% (which your roll on crit damage isn't bad at all). Any pair of gloves with the damage "trifecta" (attack speed, crit chance, crit damage) are going to be expensive as hell. What makes these even better is the decently high int and vita (any amount is good with that kind of roll). Alas this is only a 5 prop instead of a 6 prop so it's not top of the line. But I'm assuming these would easliy go for 4-6 mill.

The second pair I would put up for around 500k. While the crit chance is really good, the int is a bit better than the other, and the crit damage is decent, but the other stats are holding it back.

Now I wouldn't say that life leech is a "waste", but I would agree that it's a lot harder to make more viable than LoH. Life leech is scaled for having lots of dps and lots of mobs. If you think it's a complete waste go watch the dude that plays a barb with the sprint/ww build. He has fairly close to max life leech and does CRAZY aoe damage. Needless to say he rarely dies.

OT: Lower gear levels without stacking life leech at all blood weapon is going to be basically useless. Go with force weapon and some life regen or LoH if you need some healing.

Yes. Any skill or anything that says damage is converted to life is life leech and is nerfed hard in inferno.

    Quote from Chonaire

I'd think I'm one of the most successfull melee wizards out there, rocking a4 farms on my wiz, 1.1k all resistances with prismatic armor up, + with 1.5k LPH I'm virtually unkillable. In earlier acts there are a couple bosses where I need to swap some dps gear on (Belial a2 for example) to meet the enrage timers,

http://us.battle.net...XSOj!abT!acacca this is the spec I'm running with.

just wondering but why use explosive blast over star pact? I do not have a geared wizard for actual testing the meele build, but I have done my research on the build because I am very interested in using it one day. But as far as I see explosive blast does 91% more damage if the target is hit by all 3 blasts. The LoH coversion for explosive blast is 11% per tick(max of 33%per cast) where as star pact has 25% per tick (max of 100% per cast). Plus star pact hits more times therefore more chances to crit. But I suppose you don't really have very many CDs abilities. What is your dps, crit, and crit damage at?

This most important thing for a meele wiz is critical mass (has a chance to reduce your CDs by 1 second per crit) and your defensive skills. Diamond skin - crystal shell and frost nova are probably the best ones. As far as the rune for frost nova there are a few that aren't too bad. Deep freeze, shatter, and my personal favorite bone chill. Deep freeze is really good for obvious reasons but you won't always be able to freeze 5 mobs at once therefore not being able to benefit from it everytime.

Next you'll want two spells that hits lots of times for more crits. Spectral blades - Deep cuts and Meteor - Star pact seem to be pretty popular. Star pact has a pretty high LoH coefficient and is easier to spam. I am guessing that the bleed effect from deep cuts can crit. Thrown blade would be good if you don't have enough defensive stats or crit chance and find yourself kiting inbetween CDs. Healing blade would be good if you already have some life steal and have crazy amounts of dps and you find yourself in huge aoe situations often.

As for the two remaining skill slots I'd say force armor is completely necessary. The last one is more up to you. I would use wave of force with the 260% rune for crazy amounts of AoE damage (frost nova with bone chill then WoF for insane aoe damage). If you want another defensive move I'd go with slow time with the 20% damage increase to mobs inside.

As for passives (other than CM) I would strongly recommend Blur. I suppose you could out gear needing this, but it's an easy way to up your EHP. The 3rd one is up to your choice as well. There's plently of useful ones to choose from here, so it's more so up to the gear you have. If you don't have much max Ap or Ap on crit you'll want arcane presence. Arcane dynamo would make your meteors hit hard but you'd have to kinda get into a rotation. Evocation if you are low on crit chance.

As for gear the most most important stats are your tanky stats and crit chance. You'll need high resist all, vita, armor, and life on hit. Life regen helps too. To up your dps you'll want lots crit damage and int. Ap on crit and max AP are both very important too. More meteors means more LoH, more crits, and lots of damage. I do not know what the stat threshold is for the acts though.

To actually answer your question though... Any class, any build is viable with good enough gear and the right gear setup.

posted a message on Gear Suggestions
You have some pretty good gear. A bit more resist all and more health (closer to 35-40k) would give you WAY more EHP. You need to upgrade your rings/ammy too. High int crit chance and crit damage for them all. Also if you could find a weapon with some crit damage(max is 100%) and a socket on it without losing too much dps (100-150) your dps on your character sheet would go up. Attack speed would be awesome too since you have such high int but if you were to go that route I would say go for a 1h/source.

Also since you aren't stacking health regen you could switch out galvanizing ward with Blur. Or the +AP one (forgot the name).
