I made prolly 7 rings or so. My advice to you is find a group of good players in any way you can, either on public games or inspecting profiles of random people in chat. Then invite these people for runs having all three machines so you alone can guarantee one run.
Most efficient way of doing it though is having a nice friendlist full of people you have witnessed playing on high MP Lvls. Get organized with them on skype and have every member contribute 3 machines each so you do a total of 4 complete runs in a single "get together" session. It helps to do a well balanced party that can be 2 barbs, a WD and a monk, or you can go full crasy mode with 3 barbs and anything else set as a designated ressurector.
Scales start to tip in your favor in MP7 so i would not bother doing ubers in any MP lower than that, personally i like MP8 the most because 9 and 10 are just obnoxious in terms of time to kill those trillion billion HP bosses.
What is this "player versus player" you speak of? Like you mean, to see who has the most gold or....?

I play this game because ima damn stubborn snb...D1 was great back in highschool, D2 was great playing with friends in Lan, D3 was supposed to be great playing with everyone on the internets...But it isnt, it is pretty much a a gearcheck every step of the way.
But dont take me wrong, im not whining, after all what is the point after playing over a thousand hours.., all im saying is that it is pretty stale atm and needs to re-do some stuff the others did that were great.
ANd btw, dungeon crawling isnt really in tune with how d3 turned out. only a few levels here and there are random, 90% of the game is pretty much set in stone.
Im pretty sure standard WW build can run much faster, kill faster and not be annoyed by any vortex, jailer, frozen things on your path with WOTB. Even on a budget since it seems you want do design a fast lowl to no MP EXP farming build.
Although i like the idea of not having to use a fury gen skill i never really got used to key binding move. If i ever get a extra buttons mouse that allows that i might try it out.

Things are getting out of hand pretty quick... Friday night i was on doing some key runs and i got a pst from a gold seller ingame.
He was offering 2 Billion gold for 90 dollars. The message was something along the lines of save 90% when comparing to other gold sellers. I did some maths and it was roughly 45 cents per 10 mil if i was correct.
I know this isnt really on topic but i just thought to share this experience. 90 USD 2 Billion Gold... that has got to wreck the game.

Look at it this way. You farm machines because you want the ring. You ask people to play with you because that will help achieve your goal easier.
People help you because that way they can get a ring form themselves too.
The system is all round good just as it is right now...

Oh and Btw, i did 2 runs solo in MP6... it is a bitch, dying to kulled on 10% HP and having to re-fight alone coz there no one is there to ress you up.
So yeah, even if you do farm up the machines and open all three portal you will probably be better off for it just inviting a couple of dudes to help you out...

5 rings is more than i will ever use, ill end up keeping one in each follower just for the lulz...
I said this before games release, you can probably find the post on these forums somewhere. Gems should be used to craft armor with a specific modifier, ie 1 ruby of x value gives you a guaranteed strength roll of y-z so people can craft stuff they can actually use.
I think it's great that the prices are down, I can hardly afford a tier 7 gem.

Blizz would do well to rethink the crafting system...It was never all that good to begin with, legendary "fixing" in 1.04 smothered it, huge droprates on 1.05 outright killed it.
Eating up gems would be great. so much cool stuff could come of it if they added secret formulas like, combining a radiant star ruby and a flawless star topaz for intance could add an extra random affix besides ensuring a Str roll on one of the affixes. You know i mean lots of different combinations beetween the types and tiers... make all tiers usefull.
On that note, does anyone know if items crafted now roll ilvl 63 affixes or do they still only go up to 62 on the 6 prop rares?
