people say that you have the same chance of drawing 50 royal flushes from 50 shuffled decks as any other 50 combinations of 5 cards you can name.

it makes perfect sense. the cards dont care about which card is which. they are all just cards. they all have the same odds of being drawn. They do not keep track of what has been drawn before. The decks of cards and the shuffle do not understand what a poker hand is. the deck of cards does not understand the difference between 1 ace and 4 aces

    but the players do.

just like how one can assume that the D3 code does not understand what a piece of shit unique is. But the players do.

The game does not see 3 "useless as all fuck" Ivory Towers in the past 5 hours. But the players do.

The game does not count 25,000 shards spent for nothing entertaining. But the players do. and so on and so forth.....

The rules that could be writen, and the enhancements that could be grafted into the game as far as item drops and/or noteworthy occurences go, that would increase the number of positive experiences for the players or reduce the number of negative experiences, is as infinite as one could imagine....

I suppose these shitty scenarios are rare. thank goodness!!

Are they rare? They must be.......

Does the Ivory tower still suck? It used to be a goddamn joke....

    Food for thought?

TLDR: I think hearthstone is awesome for the same reason chess is awesome. its because the amount of possibilities is virtually limitless. Same with starcraft. Because some units are weak against units and strong against others, It's like rock paper scissors on a grand scale.

What does this have to do with D3? im not sure yet....

I'm kinda in the same boat. When I first purchased Diablo 3 I bought a Naga mouse (6 side button version)at the same time. Diablo 3 is my first ARPG, so I learned to play it using this mouse. I'd have to learn how to play the game using the 1,2,3,4 keys on the keyboard which would be kind of a pain in the rear. I'm afraid I will eventually have no choice though. While my mouse is still working fine, it is really starting to hurt my hand after playing for a little while. It is a somewhat awkward position you have to keep your hand in. The OP described it as a "claw" which is pretty accurate. I'm afraid to do some actual damage to my hand if I continue using it. I do also have a Razer Death Adder that is pretty comfortable and may have to switch to that.
another thing you may consider is the position, layout and cleanliness of your entire computer station. specifically a desk surface that allows you to rest your arms. when I was a kid it was carpal tunnel this" and carpal tunnel that so I went out of my way to keep the monitor keyboard mouse far back on the desk and arms and wrists in the most relaxed position possible basically resting totally on a desk surface. maybe your computer area is totally clean and well shaped but its easy to lose sight of all the objects that might subtly obstruct comfort. some people have their mouse and mouse pad mere inches from the edge of the desk for no particular reason beyond a pile of garbage they forgot about for the past few years.... so it's worth mentioning......

heh ok lets fine tune this a bit for your case in particular.

being a palm grip id focus strongly on how the body of the mouse supports your hand. if the mouse is to small or narrow from side to side a problem I had was that when the hand was on the mouse imagine your pinky and index fingers falling closer to the table. it was so painful I had to get a larger mouse the held my hand up more.

Logitech released long ago the MX 510. this model went on to influence many future models the g400 g500 etc....

if I were you id definitely glance at the logitech g400s

of interesting note, my friend has been using his MX510 so long the paint is worn off the buttons....of course the buttons and the cursor tracking still function like new....

or if a flat topped mouse works good for your hand maybe this one?

cant recommend a model or brand but I can give you things to ponder.

    1. don't buy a mouse without feeling it in your hand.

    2. don't claim loyalty to a brand. they ALL have potential to suck or be amazing.

    3. avoid wireless if you can. maybe the new ones are very responsive...but why take the chance? if you care about your gaming experience, 9 times out of ten you will be thankful for a wired connection.

    4. mouse models tend to advance and become obsolete. A few famous mice from a few years back now command retarded prices on websites due to the demand overshadowing the availability. if you find a mouse you like, consider purhaps picking up a few replacements and hiding them in your closet? I regret not doing this....oh man do I regret it.....

    5. the difference between gaming grade mice and standard mice as far as tracking accuracy? TOTALLY SUBJECTIVE

6.the difference between gaming grade mice and standard mice as far as customization? you will notice a big difference in the options available. this means that gaming mice can be more accommodating to you IF you need that accommodation

    7. if you get a gaming grade mouse, stick with the bigger names so that the software and drivers are reliable.

posted a message on In Your Opinon: Three Things D3 Gets Right And Three Things It Gets Wrong
    1. the feel of character control. to put it bluntly its virtually without equal. when you click the mouse, on that frame the animation that is triggered and the frames that follow, they are simply the work of masters.

    2. music and sound. although subjective as far as musical tastes go. the audio is top tier.

    3. Characterization of abilities. the abilities although at times seem like shit due to the math of the damage etc. the concept of them is stunning. not all of the skills. but plenty of them. seismic slam is just crazy. launching 7 sided strike feels epic. rapid fire, ice beam, zombie dogs...the concepts are breath taking and they just make you want to play more. this I feel was the key to the interest in the "early game" of diablo 3

    and the wrong

    1. character customization and growth I feel is far to shallow. when you view "growing" a character in D1, with what options were available, then you view "growing" a character in D2 which was much more vast and interesting....I certainly hoped D3 would continue this tradition and in some aspects it did not. and it other aspects in made negative progress

    2. items. precisely what the items do in the world is infinite. the ideas are literally infinite. you can make an axe do anything. spawn 50 chickens. spawn ghom. clone you character. duplicate itself. be unrepairable. have 10 sockets....their is ZERO limit when brainstorming....so to arrive at items with a few stats and that's the final iteration.....that's disappointing.

    3. lack of added features. this one is tricky and Is hardly something that can be demanded....but you'd think that the desire to build more and put it into the game would be as a strong as the players' desire to discover more. it should be one voracious appetite on both sides of the equation...this game is so celebrated.....add a few weapons and everyone is doing cartwheels.....add a few skills? people will fork over another 40 bucks.........

posted a message on Would you like to be able to turn smart loot off?
Turning it on and off I feel would be a pretty jarring way to offer people choice in the game

imagine if sliders were in the option screen or a toggle switch....in contrast to if there was buffs or quests or something that produced or persuaded gear towards a players preference?

maybe items or skill points or a wild new system or area or NPC that was used to persuade certain gear?

all of the above give the players some control over items found. some are graceful some are absolutely not.

it just seems jarring to think of a setting in the options about what type of gear you get along side other options.

Not saying that that is specifically what is being cheered for, but just food for thought....

Exactly what items are found I feel is supposed to be the ultimate mystery and discovery in a players entire time with the game, and I feel that the design of it is right in line with the other IMHO absolute most delicate and important aspects; it just seems tied to the hip of exactly what the items are how they affect a character, how many there are, etc....

I'm glad I dont have to make the choice....lol.....but if i did, id treat the player base like royalty. because after all. its the GMs job to keep the players interested in the campaign....and I dont think all players are satisfied the same way.

Didn't Princess Di say something along the lines of "......everywhere I go, I smell fresh paint......"

Oh look, again those random abstract negative commentaries about the game. It's almost like I'm on the comment session of IGN or Gamespot, or any youtube video, where almost everything people say is something like that. 6-7 months of beta testing, with some stuff being heavily changed based on player testing (specially streamers and tryhard hardcore exploiting players), but the game has obviously(can't mark that word enough - it means beyond any reasonable doubt!!!) not been tested, at all. We know it, for a fact. Because we are omniscient.

It's hard (if not impossible) to argue with anyone who thinks the current state of D3 RoS is a grass cake or mud, as far as quality in ARPGs go. Most of these are simply stuck in a specific mindset that they're never gonna be able to let go.
Don't get to discouraged. It's not anyone's duty to convince the players specifically how they should feel about topic XYZ.

yes its true people tend to shout about negative aspects more often than they shout about the positive ones. but thats only when viewing the entire landscape of people. its a small hurdle to hop over. the one of negative feedback. I dont think I've ever seen a google restaurant review that was positve. but im seeking out the answer about the restaurant, im not seeking out what I read about it. I believe the saying goes "take it with a grain of salt?

if you, a game company, or a game employee in this situation namely Blizzard and its staff, are looking for a type of reaction, you will find it.

if you are looking for negative feedback it's there to be found. if you are looking for positive feedback, its there. you will find it if you are honestly looking.

but that paragraph of feedback cant be used as a measuring stick for "Anything". it simply can't.

it cant be used as a measuring stick for how people generally feel for the game,
it cant be used as a measuring stick of the quality of any forum,
it cant be used as a comparison of this forum VS the official forum,
it cant be used as a measuring stick of the character of the person who typed it up....you see?

its only a small sliver of the answer. When I read this forum title and glance at the posts through out, tell me im crazy:

I pretend Im a fucking game developer on par with Blizzard or on par with whoever fill those shoes in California....and I ask myself 2 questions:

    1. Am I satisfied that people are complaining about finding verbatim copies of set peices that do not add to their respective set in any way?

    2. Am I satisfied with the amount of sets and the compostion of the set pieces, the rarity and odds of completion?

The answer? its not one that you typically type out. The answer is a philosophy that guides you hopefully. you'd start typing it and you might never stop, and hopefully what gets typed is code for a game that is being honest with itself. and in this case it seems that personally I would be let down. I'd feel I let myself and the game down. and at the same time I'd feel incredibly proud of the other aspects of the game that I feel shine through. sure...thats fine. . it would basically get me up off of my fat slimy haunches every day to push and push....

I would not lay blame, recoil at the negative feedback or slump over in victory at the positve feedback about other aspects as noted above.......id just glance at it all andkeep going....if In fact was a game designer....which anyone can be in their heads.....becuase the design of a game can exist in the space of a mind....programming it is a different story...

Well, because it's the Diablo community. Most of the time, I'm not sure anyone should listen us. I'm part of the community and I don't want to listen to it.
I meant in terms of legitimate feedback and suggestions, not the other 20000000000 posts of QQ bullshit.
It's like "RNG is RNG" but in reverse....when viewing a small portion of forum posts you might get a more concise analysis of the state of the game than when viewing the several tens of thousands of posts on the official forum.......

So whats a bigger negative trait in the game? The fact that 90% of everyone picks the emerald for a weapon? or the jewels in the thead's original post if they actually existed??
Neither. The biggest negative is that, despite the feedback, they didn't do a goddamned thing about emeralds dominance in weapons. Inaction on such a simple thing (all they have to do is nerf the damned emeralds) is far worse than the initial imbalance.

Why bother adding MORE when you can't get the current things right? Why ad MORE legendaries when there are a ton of legendaries out there which probably need to be re-re-revisited?

Instead of "fixing" gems by making them obsolete with "legendary gems" it would be a lot better if Blizzard would show us that they understand what's wrong with gems and attempting to fix that BEFORE just slopping more shit on the pile.
thats exactly the point I was hoping to make. just different wording, but yes....my option of "90% of people all using emeralds..." and your "lack of action against the dominance of emeralds in weapons. yes. thats exactly the way I see it.

and I do agree that adding "more" of any item type or even new item types, does not does not excuse the silly garbage they have in the game right now in terms of item flavour, adding more OR redesigning items in the game are both more appealing than what we have right now. so even the most ridiculous and misguided efforts are better than no effort at all.

look at paragon points in their first way of being.. just more seemingly non existent stats that trickle in every new level up. you choose nothing. just 3% more gold...3 more main stat. a vitality point every ten fucking hours........what a joke.

.....but compared to the week prior where there was absolutely nothing? with that contrast the dumb as hell paragon levels as they were when first released were the second coming of Christ.....

I have a feeling that I'm out numbered here. but when they added the archon gear it was incredible. Even though none of the crap in the game was fixed. thats not I was comparing the new archon gear to. I was comparing it to zero item additions in the game finally becoming one new addition.

actually thinking about the game as a whole, when you dont really have a continent to explore or random quests...or new sizable adventures ...or anything else really.........just pure item hunting........ideally you would be making items quite the sizable hunk of meat to chew on.....i mean in certain circumstances.....of course their are people who just play D3 to unplug for a while and dont need all the intricacies....but.....yea.....

The only thing interesting about those rainbow gems was the +/- elementary damage. The on death effects were too small to notice, and the damage was very little aswell.

We allready have +skill damage % and +element damage %, I dont see why we need more of it on gems.

And wether this will fix itemisation or not : the problem is that blizzard thinks that itemisation is the entire game. Itemisation isnt bad at the moment. The problem is that there is absolutely zero endgame. All you do is grind and grind to get better gear to grind more. A few long term goals would be great. Or at least making the game open enugh that players can create long term goals themself.
Itemization is a nice big winding road covered in foot wide potholes, when what should have been was a giant mass transit system...

I think the problem is that Blizzard made Itemization the entire game, and then blinked a few times and hoped everyone would assume it was not. Then they can shift their focus elsewhere while items as a whole sit and rot away.

I don't understand why when a new Idea is brought forth or an old idea that was new at one time and then was deleted from the game is brought forth players will so quickly punch a hole in it and basically are thankful that it is not in the game....

That's the root of that joke that echoes across the forums. A thing existed in the game, or might have existed or was hoped to exist....and then it does not exist.....and the players shake their heads in frustration....and some one quotes Bashiok....arent you thankful?

the joke means aren't you thankful for what could have been and will never be...

people say "I'm glad we dont have to pick our stats." im glad we dont have items that function from our inventory" im glad they got rid of skill trees. all I did was pick points on the tree"

in your quote above Two flower? instantly "We allready have +skill damage % and +element damage %, I dont see why we need more of it on gems."

well my reply is that that % skill damage and ele damage it took us two years to get put into the game.

For the first 2 years our only form of elemental damage was a tool tip that was blatantly incorrect and a boost to damage that was both basically a glitch and wildly more powerful and desirable than most stats in the game.

I just hate seeing new ideas and possibilities and different Ideas shot down from the sky and trampled while for the last 2 years the sky has been empty. and they get shot down FAST.

Itemization is a joke compared to what it could have been. But we will never know because the developers and even players all seem to follow suit.

they strip away stats and they leave new item ideas on the cutting room floor while chanting "analysis by paralysis"

Just like ruksak said. they took away a laundry list of different item types, and replaced them with thin air.

Like I said " I'd rather suffer the illusion of choice in all of its cunning fakery...than the honestly of nothing...."

So whats a bigger negative trait in the game? The fact that 90% of everyone picks the emerald for a weapon? or the jewels in the thead's original post if they actually existed??

in the end its about potential. if a player whips up a new item or new item idea...and people rush in an point out a spelling mistake or a scenario why that item fails....the bigger picture eludes them; everyone and their dog was wearing the same items. BiS was the same in many cases regardless of class. but many times that is never mentioned. They just point out a flaw in the new thing and turn around and walk away. and then new things do not get introduced....its really kind of heartbreaking in a way....

thats why I flew off the handle with my post in this thread about all the vomit and what-not......

    interesting.

when I read your line "They could implement all the charms and jewels and whatever. But so long as RNG determines what builds you, or I, can play, the system will NEVER live up to its potential. Ever. End of story."
I thought much differently at the propostion. If i experienced the piles of gems and jewels and different slots and affixes etc etc.......id love it. even if it were bound by RNG. But its just being percieved differently I think..Im sure we touched on this before...but to elaborate...

imagine they did the unthinkable and released 5 new item slots and 100 new affixes and other stuff.....

even if it was all beign suffocated by RNG ..i dont think "oh darn more RNG to try to win at..."

    I think "finally something new...."

even punching through my malice towards the game...which at times gets rather feisty....what they added in the Expansion...its very hard for me to resist buying it.....simply because when i see new things....again whatever they may be called....i want to try them out....

but with the lack of new things....similar to the once prevalent "thingies" in diablo 2 being removed.....its a downer for me....becuase i wanna try that stuff out.....I even anticipated trying out reinterpretations of stuff already brought to life...

I remember I think it was you that told me they are removing WoW's reforging? thats a downer....

As far as being optimistic? well im hopelessly optimistic about the illusion of choice...I compare it to the non illusion of non choice..thats how I perceive the game today in many circumstances. id rather suffer the illusion of choice in all of its cunning fakery...than the honestly of nothing....

Oh There's lots I love about Diablo 3. I could prattle on for ages about the things i love about it. of particular note, the graphics and music which I feel are held at knife point by what seems like a fair chunk of the player base. I feel that the music and the graphics and as well the animation and the feeling of the combat are basically peerless. They blow my mind in the opposite way that the "jewel situation" does....

but people generally don't care about hearing about that either. its the same. It's just an opinion. when D3 was released I was a choirboy on the forums....no one cared. I was dead set on formally applying to be an MVP for awhile. boy did I envy those guys. I was really optimistic!

EDIT. to elaborate on the graphics and music....there was uproar over the graphics of the game being to bright and rich and not so gritty. I never really was bothered ...even today some of the screen shots of the game just make me shake my head for how incredible they look. and the music.....oh my ...god.........some of the best "classical" orchestra type music around......Ghom, Lord of Gluttony is actually my favourite song of that genre of music ive ever heard.........

I like to think posts like these have the potential to inject fun into the forum...

yes Shard of hate was bugged....but what was its working intention? to fling lighting and fire all over the place? I thought it did a bang up job.

Half life 2 had the gravity gun and that was built to test the game. it was never supposed to be in the game as a weapon....im sure you know the rest of that story..

sure maybe the SoH damage was way to high. i have not even seen it in use yet.....but for fucks sake....how many billions of weapons were generated that had a bleed effect that did like 75 to 100 damage over 6 seconds? even the almighty skorn's bleed effect was what...6-12,000? against monster with life pools of several million? no fucking way they would even think of hot fixing that retarded shit...

for how many months did this continue on for? all of them. what 6 months? 12? 99.9 % of all legendarys in the game smashed into dust without hesitation?

so of course the have to quickly neuter a weapon thats way over powered thats true. if the shard of hate was actually 1 shotting everyhing in the highest difficulty...i think a hotfix is definitely in order...

....but one might hope they would be careful about filling the game to the brim with weak and boring weapons...they can have weapons that make you salivate and at the same time not break the game.....one might hope that their design philosophy would do well to cull the population of lame fucking weapon design, but im not sure that is the truly the case....

....and nobody. NOBODY. on this forum wants the Diablo 3 gameplay lifespan to last longer than I do.

just to hopefully strike up a discussion :)

I think the phrase OP legendary weapons does not mandate that they must be astronomically lethal......I like to think the phrase means that they put a grin on your face for how they make the the combat feel. more fun and more engaging and they make your character feel more "adept" for lack of a better word...
