In Diablo II, there was an extremely minimal ability to control a player's mercenary and minions. Without the use of the Teleoport ability to instantly retrieve a mercenary or casting curses as a target system, there was absolutely no way to influence underlings. Fortunately, this setback wasn't a major problem in Diablo II because the fighting was more of a bloodfest than a strategical battle. However, it has been mentioned by Blizzard on multiple occasions that battling monsters in Diablo III will require a bit more strategy when it comes to either eliminating monsters in a specific order or just in the method of dispatching them. Without the use of a control system for one's subordinates, this may prove difficult. It wouldn't be like Diablo to have some large and distracting key with minion commands on it like a Hunter's user interface in WoW, so I'm hoping that Blizzard decides to issue some sort of simple keybind system that allow a player's pets to either attack, use a special ability, remain stationary or defend a specific point/player/NPC. Do any of you guys know if this type of system (or any other system) was available to players who got a chance to try out the the Witchdoctor while at one of the Blizzcons? Do you guys have any other ideas for a minion/mercenary control system?
I fully expect there to be hirelings in the game, and I think you'll be able to equip them with items. I also think they'll have their own skill trees, and that there will probably be numerous types. I think you'll be able to edit their AI so they do exactly what you want them to do in specific situations. Maybe they retreat once their health reaches a certain point or something to that effect. I'd be shocked if this weren't the case, but anything is possible. The games going to melt face regardless.

A belief in no God is a belief in everything. It is a belief in the unfathomable number of events of blind chance required for every living thing to be here.
We have seen henchmen in the first demo video that announced DIII is in development back in 2008.
We just do not know what role they play. In DII classic the Hireling was only available in the act they were bought and you could not equip them. The expansion allowed the Hireling to be useful.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.

What are you basing that on?
Is it not obvious that it's entirely my own speculation? That's what I expect from Diablo 3. They have hirelings in D2, so it's not beyond reason that they'll be in D3. If so, you could assume the entire hireling system would be much more elaborate and could include what I was speculating.
