So there I was playing Titan Quest, minding my own business and going on a regular boss run, ignoring the losers on my path when...
Woa wa wee wow!
What you wearing?
I see a group of monsters and the caster got that awesome armor on him and there are a few other casters but you know, they are just not dressed as smart. So I stop, murder the guy and BAM!
A legendary item drop. That was what the monster was actually wearing.
So after having convinced myself that I am getting delusional and that I should probably be masturbating less than 4 times a day, I just discard the incident as being part of my imagination.
And then I am on another boss run and hey there! A group of archers! And the one in front is holding a hugeass bow with crystal shards on it. The others have plain black bows. Naturally I murder that guy as well....and another legendary item drop.
Now I know the rest of you may already know this but after some research I discovered that monsters in Titan Quest(expansion) have a chance to spawn with the legendary(those are essentially the rarest in the game) item on them and of course using these against you.
I didn't take screenshots like I should have but on the TQ forum, they had a whole thread devoted just to that.
Now I think that is just something plain awesome and I would love to see that in D3 given that legendary items will all probably have their own unique designs. However I have come to realize through the years that surprisingly my opinion is not quite the universal thing as it should be, so I decided to share it with you along with a poll for the extra fun.
Maybe on a few bosses but overall no. Mainly because that would mean that if you want a certain item you would have to wait for a random monster spawn.
Fire enchanted Uniques should drop magically enchanted items that affect something involving fire. Like a weapon with fire damage or armor with fire resist or an Ammy with +Fire Spell Dmg.
It should be something like that. Still wouldn't mind a Fallen stuck in place because it's holding a bow that it has to stick into the ground to use...

It's all been said. The pun, the not so funny joke, the phrase, something about oneself, the not so random picture.
I think this feature would be a great feature for the Treasure Seeker, although it would surely have to be messed with a lot. He carries a huge bag of goodies with him, maybe you could catch a glimpse of a few of the items ever so close to falling out.
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” - Albert Einstein
I can see this being an issue with multiplayer, but I like the idea. =P
Yeah I was thinking about that also. Seeing as each person gets unique drops, a monster being seen with the same item on, would logically mean it would have to drop that specific item no matter who killed it, so that would kinda be the opposite of whole personal, unique drop aspect of the game.

Why would it be a problem? If he's going to drop a legendary armor, he could be wearing it. And you only get it when you kill him. Like I said, he needs not wear everything (meaning every legendary) he's going to drop.
I can see this being an issue with multiplayer, but I like the idea. =P
Eh...I was thinking if they can do separate drops for people, they would somehow find a way around this. I am being rather simplistic here since I am no programmer or game developer but then again I did not think having separate item drops as something even possible in the first place. :sorcerer:
The thread was mostly(yes, mostly; that's why the third poll option was included  ) aimed towards people having played TQ and who experienced this feature I guess.
I was interested in TQ, and this feature is neat for sure. As said, it's kinda an issue with unique drops for everyone, but there are other ways it could be implemented, like the Treasure Seekers are I said, or maybe those armor suits, and weapons racks found in D2 that acted like chests could use this feature, what you see is what you get kinda thing.

Btw if you play trough Steam add me then. I lost my old character (73 conquerer) but i started like few days ago again and am a 42 harbringer now, i finished normal mode and am farming hades and tyhpon now untill ma friends finish normal aswel so we can go epic 2 gether.
It's my first ever playthrough of TQ actually and I always do a game solo the first time. Besides, I don't have Steam.
Oh and I am on Epic with a level 39 Evoker. Got my legendary drops while running the Gorgon sisters...
I played TQ + the expansion a lot, and it was a nice feature to be able to see a certain item on the creature you were about to slaughter. Other things I also liked about the game, was the "show items filter" to not show normal items and such, and that the item you equipped actually looked like that item on your char., in D2 if you equipped a unique shield or death maul it just looked like that tier item, and not how the actual item. I hope they have a feature quite like these in D3 as well..
But I still see a tiny problem with the shown item on the creature, only coz of the separate drop thingy.. would be so crap to be a barb, see a nice big legendary axe on a creature, and then only demon hunter would be able to pick it up.. ( especially coz the friends I play with are item whores and don't wanna share xD )
Get new friends.
But yeah, I am beginning to see the problem too though I am hoping there is way around it, like you would see only what drops for you though the creature will still use the properties of the item. It's only fair since it is multiplayer anyway.
I suppose this is something to take as being possible for the sake of speculation and discussion until somebody with the actual technical knowledge comes in to say why it is impossible.
I found it really exciting in TQ to meet a monster you knew you were going to get a legendary item from, the moment you kill it.
I think that such feature would be useless and just unnecessary work for developers. So monster spawning with legendary item on him would be really rare, right? Let's say 1 in 5000 monsters can spawn equipped with legendary item. Now every character is killing stuff very fast and usually don't even pay attention to what he is killing. Imagine you are killing stuff for 2 hours and suddenly monster spawns with sword and you kill it and appears that that was legendary sword used by that monster. I think you will never notice such things
Oh come on man. You just said it won't be cool unless it is a rare event and now when you've realized it probably will be a rare occurence if this feature is in the game, you still don't think it's good.
I mean I specifically created that pizza option to avoid getting into talks of how developers would better spend their time doing this or that instead. Trust me, i do understand it is not crucial to gameplay but I found it so cool in TQ(and oh yes, I did notice!) I felt it was definitely something worth including in D3.
I want a better experience like everybody.
And ya I am really tired of that necessary/unnecessary work argument. A game in itself is not necessary. I mean having no games won't compromise your chances of survival. At least not directly.
Like you could have no games, be bored and look at a sharp knife and say to yourself- 'Hey wouldn't it be fun if I stick that in my belly?" Kind of an indirect cause, you see.
Unless you take game cd and stab someone with it.
Wait...I think I am getting distracted here...
I have played TQ, and I would agree with Senor Nekrodac that it was cool to see the monster with the legendary item. They stand out like a sore thumb btw. However, in TQ you can see EVERY drop before it falls. Monsters with crappy bows drop exatly that crappy bow. If they are going to drop rags, or leather armor, then they will be wearing it and you can see if fall off of their body and roll along the ground. It's an entirely different drop system.
As I understand it, Diablo's drop system is based on random generation of items at the moment of death. This means two things. Firstly, a tiny little bat monster can drop the epic long spear of badassery. This cannot happen in TQ, and so if you're only interested in drops, you would never kill a little bat monster unless you wanted some bat tooth or something to that effect. Secondly, in Diablo, the game doesn't know what the monster is going to drop until it dies, where as in TQ, item generation happens at the point of spawning. This means that with the current system, the skeleton cannot be shown holding the Grandfather great sword, because the game hasn't yet decided what he will drop.
In conclusion, the way it works in TQ is groovy in TQ, but I would not welcome it in Diablo (except possibly with the little thief demon).
Also, in China, pizza costs between 7 and 12 times the price of a normal meal, and is often covered with very strange toppings.
Well, the problem would be multiplayer. If a monster carries a unique weapon that he would drop when killed each member of the party would then get the same unique drop.
Or perhaps only one of them would get it, making the question who would get it.
If it's random then you know somebody got it, but who? And is that person willing to give that item away?
I voted yes, but I don't really like the idea as having a monster actually wearing the item; I think it should just be implied that he has it due to him just having a different colored armor on or something. I also wonder about the rarity of this event occurring, such as a decreased rarity when you go into Nightmare and Hell difficulties since more enemies will be buffed and will surely be carrying better loot to help with the level curve.

That's a good point, although you could get around that by having the rarest items in each difficultly be the ones which have a chance to show up on enemies. Since each difficultly has it's own rare items per say.

Well armour is going to look different on different classes anyway, not sure if the same applies to unique items but... I think a random item system is always going to be best. Removes some of the surprise if you know Leoric is going to drop his crown every time. There's a way to make it work well, sure, but you can't go wrong with random (except for itchies dropping plate mail lol). But then you have to draw the line somewhere or you'll end up with a system like in TQ.
I think I need to pimpslap some sense into your people. But first let's get over the important stuff-
@newt_mcmac: Damn...wasup in China man? Can't a man even enjoy a pizza there without taking loans from the bank?
@Veggie50: It's the gay flavor, buddy. You know, the pizza that only gay people like(Got you, suckers! hmmm...no not really i guess).
Let's get back to business here.
So multiplayer is going to pose a problem, eh? But guess what? That's not my problem. And it shouldn't even be yours either because...you are not making the freaking game. Am asking if you want cake and you are telling me that it will be a problem because you need chocolate powder and you do not where to buy it...
For Christ's sake. It's a cool feature and ta-da. That's it.
Bunch of whiners. Let the developers worry about implementing it. Am not asking you how to implement it and you shouldn't be asking me how to.
I can easily imagine many of you bitching like mad when the first guy came up with the idea of an airplane. And you are like- metal flying into the air? You crazy, nigga? That's not possible.
@Az
I don't quite know how to explain it to you man but I will give it a shot anyway. You know when that rare legendary(legendary are already the rarest bitches; now imagine a rare legendary) drops and you just have like an intense orgasm?
Now the orgasm lasts only until you picked it up, ogled at it and licked your computer screen.
BUT...with what I am proposing here, it's like a whole different level of orgasm.
Just relax and let your imagination take hold.
You see that monster with the legendary item. That's the starting point of orgasm. From there, you merge the amount of time to kill it(which can be longer than usual if demon slaying in D3 is more interesting) with picking it up and doing your stuff. That's right! You got several more seconds of orgasm added to your experience.
You must understand as a man that this is something abnormally difficult to achieve. Usually it's like 2-3 seconds of bliss followed by half an hour of depression. So yes, I am not only selling an idea here. I am campaigning for all the men in the world. Together, we can make a difference.
You can clap now.
Thank you.

A chance to spawn. Like if a monster is going to drop some goodies, it won't be wearing all of them.
You are bang on right on this one mate. If there are loads and loads of legendary items everywhere, it would suck.
Still I was pretty thrilled by such a feature.
Edit- I have slightly modified the poll question which will hopefully convey my idea clearer.
Essentially, the monsters have a chance to have the item appear on them. The item does not have to appear on them to drop.
It should be something like that. Still wouldn't mind a Fallen stuck in place because it's holding a bow that it has to stick into the ground to use...
