Not to sound bitchy - but is anyone really happy with the batches of screen shots that have been released because of the Facebook "likes" getting higher?
Every time I see the phrase "another screenshot from that same unknown dungeon we've seen previously" I sigh. I know they are trying to keep the game secret, but really - I'm not impressed with seeing some bad image of a player class using an ability that is almost indecipherable from the surrounding effects - in that SAME dungeon.
Have you seen the news threads for the screenshots/art when they get released? But seriously, the art is clearly the best part of those batches and theres really not much they can do through screenshots. Its not like their going to reveal a new area through Facebook likes. It seems like people just have too high expectations for these screenshots, but I guess I can kinda see why people would be dissapointed.
Eh, there really is only so much they can show without spoiling things in a game like this, and they have tended to show x skill with y rune that perhaps hasn't been seen yet, etc. The more recent rounds have been showing us even a tiny bit of Act III, which is pretty cool.
I also think they've done a cool job releasing concept art alongside screenshots, I'm almost more taken with the conceptual stuff at times (e.g., the recent new artwork of Tristram Cathedral was stunning).

I have seen the threads and the high resolution images. The artwork (I totally agree) is great - very inspiring and makes me eager to play this game more and more.
Expectations are high, because of the great amount of interest in this game. If they are going to take the time to offer something like this, then why not give something that lives up to the expectation. Like......a short video of some more gameplay. I will watch 2 minutes of "that same unknown dungeon we've seen previously" with great interest. How hard can it be to turn on FRAPS and record a few minutes of one of the classes laying waste to some stuff.
I'm new here so maybe I'm not entitled to an opinion yet, but I gotta say screenshots are not doing it for me. It looks great and so does the artwork, but it just isn't enough.
I feel like all the screenshots are pretty much the same every time.
Instead of releasing some screenshots they could have release like a 30 sec teaser video. would've been so much sweeter.
You have to take in account that Bliz is trying to keep as much of the game secret as possible, which i think is a good thing.
Agreed - however I don't think they are in any danger to release gameplay videos that are essentially the same thing we've seen already. If we are going to get a static picture that really has no action to it, why not give us a minute or two of gameplay - even though we've seen it already. Much more engaging, imo, than screenshots.
Keep in mind, that these screenshots are released through Facebook. That means, there intended audience is people on Facebook. These are not the same people here who have been following D3 for years and check for updates daily. To an "average" fan, they are probably still really interesting. However, for us DiabloFans, we have seen these things over and over. That is not really Blizzard's fault. They still have to try to bring in new fans since we are already devoted enough.
As for a vid, there is a lot that goes into that. They have to make sure that everything that appears in the footage is finalized to be shown. this includes areas, items, monsters,...

Personally it's been hit or miss; maybe the fan art folks are happy they have something high-resolution to work with. But from a wiki standpoint it's very useful to have the officially released high-res asset. It's as "primary source" as you can get without actually having the original document, so that adds a lot of value to our wiki as a reference source.

Thanks Scyber; that's totally a perspective that I hadn't considered. Those images are catchy enough to get someone (hopefully) to leave Facebook and go to the D3 site to learn more. I still think the images could be a little more captivating for the FB audience, by showcasing another spot from Act 1.
I too thought that a video might be complicated, from a "restriction assurance" stand point. However, I would be happy seeing the same areas we've seen in other sample videos, with either the same characters or different combinations. Whatever they did to set that up - can it be concievable that they can do that again? I know this may sound like "you want to get rid of the same boring stuff that we've already seen, with more stuff we've already seen", but the video aspect is something that would interest fans a lot more. You can watch play style, effects, speculate on builds, etc.
I don't want them to take too much time on something like this - better to have all the elves in the shop getting this game out

I too, had not thought about the Wiki. I think my block was my difficulty in really getting a feel of what spell/ability was used and how its effective in a real-time environment. I work as a photographer for a living - so I'm used to seeing a static picture that tells a story. I don't get this too much with the screen caps. And I'm not looking for narrative - just something more dynamic than what we are seeing.

That is an excellent point, I never looked at it that way. I mean, I still reserve the right to hate the screens, but it makes more sense now.

No I think that's it Dehydrogenaza. The dungeon just looks a bit bland, and they show the same one over and over, which makes it seem even more bland. It needs something other than red. Not complaining though, we just got that awesome followers news release, and there was another small piece on traits.
Nice spot! The moss is a lot nicer in the new one, and that it isn't so blue. It looks more like the "painting" effect they were after, but I miss the stormy rain. Pity there isn't dynamic weather in some parts.
I thought I had posted that before, but yea, its a pretty major difference. As for the weather effects, they could still be there, but screenshots are pretty bad for seeing those kinds of things.
I like the new one, the red on the bridge wasn't doing it for me.
But they got rid of the rainbow
Could just be a different region or area, or lack of rain. You can see in the first it's raining. So hold out hope for the rainbows.
Could be the lack of rain, but I doubt it's a different area, the outside zones aren't randomized and I doubt they'd reuse that exact bridge at that exact angle.
It's not the exact bridge though. It's missing the flag from the top one, and the small shingled roof off the side at the bottom of the top one.
You're probably right though could be the new model, but I'd imagine rain has a big effect on the rainbow.
It has the exact same holes though. Even if they have that similar models at the same angle, its still pretty much reusing models if its not an update. It seems to me that its something of a new look for that area.

Anyone else?

In any event the new bridge looks a lot better. More detailed. I hope they don't forsake the rainbow though. It's definitely the same area.
