Any one else notice that there are different numbers of skills for different classes in the beta? (B-22:D-23:M-21:WD-22:W-25)
This is concerning to me But that might just be because I'm neurotic or something. Also, it seems that the monk gets extra short changed since he has the most number of incompatible skills (4 mantras only 1 can be active) and the least number of skills. I would like all classes to be on somewhat even footing in this regard, but I might just be nitpicking.
What do you folks think? (also leveling a wizard becomes much more interesting as those 2-4 extra skills find their way into her level progression

If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...

The number of skills doesn't matter THAT much because you can only equip 6 anyway.
Well I have noticed that as well, and a streamer told me he felt the monk was underpowered in the beta, but really, it might just be that the monk works best when all of his skills are in tandem with each other. The same could be said about other classes as well, but with a limited view it's hard to say whether it's bad or not. I have no doubt in my mind that blizzard special tailored the content available in the beta based on what they already knew was done and what needed work. Maybe some monk or other skills need more looking at before they're comfortable with release. We are all looking at this beta under a microscope, kinda intimidating from blizzard's point of view, yeh?
Keep in mind also that some skills get heavily changed by runes (some almost completely) while others have just very simple +range, +damage, +slow or -resources effects. This might also go into Blizz's skill count.
If the Monk has less skills, but overall equipping runes change his skills more drastically, it would mean he ends up having more skills than even the Wizard (with less "impactful" runes). I'm not saying it IS like that currently, I'm saying Blizz could use that to "balance" the skill variety (which is pretty good already and probably 100 times better than D2).
I agree about the monk. Having mantras that are actually 1 skill type, and you can only use 1 at a time makes it a little boring. Also his popularity may suffer further since they give him healing ability/mantras in the first few levels instead of damaging attacks which diablo is centered around. If you look at other classes they all start getting mainly damaging attacks but the monk gets more utility spells. I think it would have been a better decision to present the players with more combo/spirit spender skills at the beginning and give the utility spells later on.
I have no problem with the support nature of many of his skills. I even like it as a major differentiating feature of the class. Its the drastic reduction of possible monk builds that I am concerned about

This is a very good point, however, from what I have seen (including the leaks) this seems not to be the case. I could ,however, be missing something major.
I also don't care about balance issues. Those are comparatively easy to fix, but missing 4 skill animations plus 16 alterations which would be expensive time wise to recover from.
