Hey all, in case you didn't know, you can see the stats/vendor price of an item without having to pick it up first.
Just mouse over and press control.
In addition to this command, you can press alt to see all nearby gear/gold on the ground and press shift to compare an item in your inventory to what you currently have equipped.
I have a short video (30 seconds) of the control loot option here:

or you could just pick up everything except white and grey items....
Sure, in the beta, but when you are in hell/inferno and there are so many more rare/champ packs and whites are less and less common you might not want to pick up everything, your acting like having this feature is a bad thing.... you dont have to use it.

Even if all the drops are blue and not whites, you'll want to pick them all up to salvage if it's not good enough to equip. I don't ever think there will be a time when blues are not worth picking up.

At some point you'll probably have "insert the name of the material you get from blue here" for years of crafting and this mat will be worth nothing on the auction house. So, at that point you'll want to know if the item is worth it for one of your character instead of taking it and having to salvage it. But in another way, its not like it takes time to salvage stuff, maybe 10 sec for your whole inventory, so you might always want to pick up blue.

I don't think that is true. Rares(yellow) are going to be the best items in the game, assuming you can spawn them with the perfect combination of stats which means people are always going to be crafting the 6 mod rares at the blacksmith and using up every salvage material they ever find in pursuit of rares with the correct modifiers the highest they can be.
If you take crafting in D2 as an example or gambling with unid rares, (pulling numbers out my ass) you might craft/identify 100 items which could have 6 mods on them, and if you're lucky 1.. maybe 2 of those items out of 100 will have even 2 useful mods on it. Salvage materials are always going to be worth something while rares are the best items in the game.
edit: someone is inevitably going to reply that you also need the rare salvage mats for crafting those rares so you may end up with an infinite supply of blue ones but I imagine Blizzard will tweak the amounts needed to craft things or even buff the chance of a yellow salvage mat from a blue item if they think blues are in danger of becoming worthless or charsi food.
For those thinking that they were dumb for missing this little tip, take heart in the fact that nowhere has blizzard or anyone mentioned this yet that I saw.
For all the complaint someone has about Blizz "dumbing down" the interface, it seems like I find/hearout about another little thing power users, like those of us who actually go to forums about games, can use to speed up our play.
Like the option to change which skill goes where in your hotbar. Or this.

I think it was new with beta 13
